rational-future··on Stellar Consensus Protocol: Proof and Code
I guess you missed the /s at the end. As the perfect program runs on top of buggy hardware, OS, libraries, VMs, etc.
rational-future··on Stellar Consensus Protocol: Proof and Code
You are partially right. It is completely possible to write in JS/Mongo systems as robust as Ada/Oracle|DB2|SQL Server. You just have to know what you are doing. There is no magic in Ada, Oracle, etc.

Node and Mongo are moving hundreds of billions daily in HFS shops.

You can create a fake account.
rational-future··on Game Theory Calls Cooperation into Question
That's my life strategy and I'm in a very good company - politicians, bankers, ultra-rich :)
rational-future··on As Office Space Shrinks, So Does Privacy for Workers
How do you feel about companies interviewing say 20 people for a single position?
rational-future··on Why fuel cell cars don't work
Most people you know maybe. Most people I know are quite foolish themselves and repeat whatever their favorite TV station has brainwashed them to believe about the global warming.
rational-future··on Why fuel cell cars don't work
US is no longer the center of the world. EU and China have comparable industrial capability. Maybe OP's idea will work for them.
rational-future··on Why fuel cell cars don't work
The conspiracy hypothesis is that the oil people have long ago acquired controlling interest in the auto corporations. Via foundations, funds, banks, etc.
rational-future··on Why GM Hired 8,000 Programmers
At a local AWS group meeting an Amazon IT guy mentioned in presentation they support around 15 000 internal software development machines in the cloud. Also surprisingly all their dev machines have a commercial Lisp IDE licensed and installed.
rational-future··on Why GM Hired 8,000 Programmers
Not at all ridiculous. The company I consult with currently has 5K programmers, another 10K information technology staff and 48K sales people in branches. Their site moves more product and brings more profit than the branch network. Actually the sales staff interaction with customer is 99% scripted. Those humans are just another interface, that is not much different from the Web.

rational-future··on A Russian TV Insider Describes a Modern Propaganda Machine
Sure, if they say 2+2=4 that's Putin propaganda ...
rational-future··on A Russian TV Insider Describes a Modern Propaganda Machine
I'm not trying to defend anyone. Russia is as evil as the US, it just doesn't have enough hardware to do as much damage.

The man in space flew on a rocket initially designed in Nazi Germany.

rational-future··on A Russian TV Insider Describes a Modern Propaganda Machine
So you're saying "Don't talk US, because Russia"?
rational-future··on A Russian TV Insider Describes a Modern Propaganda Machine
Russia is a small country (as population and industry) compared to US and EU. It cant afford to reinvent the way a modern society, government, media, etc. works. The state propaganda machine is a direct copy of what the US and especially the UK governments have built.
rational-future··on A Russian TV Insider Describes a Modern Propaganda Machine
You're funny as well :)

RT, BBC, Al Jazeera are official state propaganda machines, but that doesn't mean ALL they say is propaganda. As a matter of personal opinion on many subjects (not directly connected with the Russian government) RT is more honest than the big international media outlets (that cant afford to alienate the western governments, big advertisers or powerful interest groups).

rational-future··on Ask HN: Tell me your biggest pain and I will try to solve it
How come?
rational-future··on Do call yourself a programmer, and other career advice (2013)
This is far from the true most of the time. In my experience the only places where pay doesn't mostly depend on skills/smarts/effort are government and to a lesser degree the big monopolies/oligopolies like Comcast.
rational-future··on Do call yourself a programmer, and other career advice (2013)
Which countries?
rational-future··on Do call yourself a programmer, and other career advice (2013)
Such a stupid nonsense!!!!

Spend a few hours reading about the industrial revolution and you'll see NONE of this applies to the greatest mechanical engineers in history.

rational-future··on Cultivated Disinterest in Professional Sports
No, it's not. What you describe is the political theater - another form of circus. All decisions are made behind closed doors by very smart people.
rational-future··on Cultivated Disinterest in Professional Sports
Yeah, never mind the 99.99% of Nobel winners that aren't/weren't athletes.
rational-future··on Cultivated Disinterest in Professional Sports
Professional sports are for the dumb - a modern version of the Roman circus to keep the unwashed masses occupied and away from the important things in life - politics, finance, economics.
rational-future··on The connections in autistic brains are idiosyncratic and individualized
Not so incidentally. Around 5 years ago the Israeli ministry of defense started generously funding brain research projects (they are interested in stuff like direct computer interfaces for pilots). It seems an army of brain researchers have recently moved from US and Europe to Israel.

rational-future··on MongoDB Is Raising Another $100M
What do you mean by infrastructure costs?
rational-future··on MongoDB Is Raising Another $100M
Some part of it certainly goes into MongoDB development. It still sucks, but every new version has a ton of major improvements. I may give it another try once 2.8 is released.
rational-future··on How Britain Exported Next-Generation Surveillance
Hehe, crime, kids, etc. are just excuses to grab more power and create a totalitarian surveillance state.
rational-future··on Ask HN: Should I report my main competitor for PCI Violations?
>> There isn't some PCI police that has a list of all their customers and will email them.

The payment processor that the competitor uses can stop processing their transactions. While I was in the PCI consulting space a few years ago, I saw many cases where small and medium sized companies ended on the credit companies black list and no payment processor would dare take their business.
