rasz··on Nissan's third generation e-POWER powertrain
e-POWER listed data is massaged NEDC rating. Real life users report closer to 7L combined cycle for 2025 e-POWER model, and it goes all the way to 10L pure long highway driving (no recuperation). In contrast diesel model does the sticker mileage.

>specific example of a hybrid that gets worse mileage than a comparable non-hybrid ICE I'd love to hear it

How about one of the e-power nissans from the article?

rasz··on Nissan's third generation e-POWER powertrain
7L mixed cycle, stay on highway and you get 10 because no recuperation and 250kg heavier.
rasz··on Nissan's third generation e-POWER powertrain
>X-Trail e-Power AWD a while ago, and fuel economy, while not spectacular, was still great

10L/100km on highway, worse than cheaper comparably powerful ordinary diesel. Seems like a pointless car, X-Trail 2.0 dCi M9R was better in every possible way.

rasz··on Nissan's third generation e-POWER powertrain
afaik microturbines are less efficient, louder and hotter than piston engines.

>From mid-2025, EREV sales in China declined year-on-year for several consecutive months

just in time as Toyota decided to go all EREV https://electrek.co/2026/09/21/toyota-joins-extended-range-e...

>Toyota will make the EREV in China, aiming to produce 200,000 units in 2027. In 2028, production is expected to rise to around 400,000 units.

Hilarious, from promoting fail hydrogen fuel cells and producing anti EV propaganda to chasing fading trends. Anything but real EVs.

rasz··on The Effect of CRTs on Pixel Art (2024)
>I remember the game magazines had advertistements in the back for VGA adapters for the SNES.

Those adapters have converter chips in them and are a very recent thing. One from your link was released in 2025, a full year after last gaming magazine stopped being printed, and 30 years since last magazine covering SNES shut down.

snes rgb cables on the other hand were always available, and even bundled with console in certain markets.

rasz··on US halts flights at busy East Coast airports, says fiber line cut
Funny its FAA. In planes you normally encounter dual-channel FADECs (dual ECUs) that alternate authority automagically during pre flight check.
rasz··on The Effect of CRTs on Pixel Art (2024)
TLDR: "It wasn't CRT technology itself that made pixel art look better - it was the blatant artefacts of cheap, low dot pitch PAL and NTSC consumer electronics that coincided to create just the right amount of fuzz."

rasz··on Recreating Voodoo Graphics and a Late-1990s Gaming PC on an FPGA
The only PC desktop accelerator that could be considered early depth testing would be tile based 1996 PowerVR. ATI introduced HyperZ in 2000 Radeon DDR (R100), Nvidia followed in 2001 with GeForce 3 LMA. From what I remember Radeon compressed Z gains were surprisingly minimal, like 10-20% when turning it on/off, but Im sure it became crucial later on when real shaders (2.0) started being used.
rasz··on Recreating Voodoo Graphics and a Late-1990s Gaming PC on an FPGA
Not require, just recommends Pentium 60 minimum. Like Quake Tomb Raider loves pipelined FPU, 30 fps on Pentium 60 vs 15 fps on 486DX2@66 and 20 on DX4@100.

rasz··on DaVinci Resolve 21.1
I would suspect that since they leverage VA-API (and NVDEC/NVENC thu shim) all patent stuff is pushed on to hardware vendors?
rasz··on DaVinci Resolve 21.1
Linux Vivaldi builds use libffmpeg.so from chromium-ffmpeg, which includes decoders for most codecs used on the web (no h265/mpeg2 tho), and VA-API which will handle all hardware accelerated codecs on particular platform.

This looks similar to using Microsoft provided Media Foundation codecs. No idea why Black Magic doesnt do it like Linux Chromium browsers.
