rasjani··on The future of Wayland, and Sway's role in it
It's sort of sad that nvidia does actually support wayland, but only on embedded side. Can't say how good the drivers are but I've worked for a good while for nvidia tegra's & wayland and they well. There was one issue one the drivers that I had access to: mmaped memory leaked file descriptors but besides that, performance was better than other hw in similar price range I was provided with.
rasjani··on Catalan referendum: 'Hundreds injured' in Catalan clashes
Downvoted for pointing a typo and a possible reason for using that word? Manual Fraga was serving as part of Francois Spain politics and started PP. Thus some people do consider the roots of the party as fascist. Sorry for pointing this out
rasjani··on Alice in Python projectland
Bad example IMHO as grpc building is painful even with 0 involvement of Python. That is, If you have any prerequirements either for build environment or 3rd party libraries. And while I did get things done in reasonable time, while doing research I noticed quite a lot of people where echoing about same thing.
rasjani··on Catalan referendum: 'Hundreds injured' in Catalan clashes
Auto corrected fascism to fairism maybe ? Ruling party in Spain was started by Franco's people.

rasjani··on Coming Home to a Shipping Container
Quite a lot of Finnish houses are build from prefabricated elements. One would typically just build a foundation and trucks would bring in the wall structures (not sure about roofs) and raise them. After that it's only about hvac, outer walls and interior.

Also, Finnish construction standards are quite high, not only because of climate :)

rasjani··on Things learned while running your own self-funded startup
Which is sort of interesting - while I have very little experience - I've dealt with this on QA side of things for automotive industry tooling a bit and getting the right texture format for what ever vendor and their product was always a problematic depending on variety of factors.
rasjani··on Top medical experts say we should decriminalize all drugs (2016)
I don't know how much weed prices where affected in states after legalization but here where it's still illegal, one can get 10g of dope/weed for price of single night at bar and smoke every day for a month with average tolerance.

If we are talking about other drugs, can't say anything...

rasjani··on Startup wants to build tools for lawyers to speed up legal services
Turre Legal in Finland is doing something similar. Albeit, not sure if their aim is to help other lawyers, just their own clients.
rasjani··on Ask HN: Do you mostly program in a non-FP or non-OO style? Why?
Last project I did was mainly procedural and that's my default go-to type of structure but OO has its place too. For example in that last one, i had few objects that implemented same functionality but with different data structure. So if I wanted to later on add new data structure, just adding a new class with predefined and partly dynamic features, I'd only need to implement a new class.

For data iteration, i prefer functional style (even in python, even after years list comprehension just feels so wrong).

rasjani··on Vagrant 2.0
Vbox shared folders isn't the only way. You can use any tech that you can with "real" devices too if both guest and host has a support.

For example, when I started with vagrant, after few days of just getting bored with slow thoughput of vbox shared folders, I added nfs sharing. But cifs works as well.

rasjani··on Riak and the demise of Basho
I've no experience w/ Riak what so ever but years ago I was contacted by hh for an open position at Basho. They where looking for field support engineer to a local gaming company. They would hire me and put me directly to client. Maybe i'd have gotten some training on the Riak, but it was never mentioned during the rounds. All interviews where done remotely. Eventually I did say no to the offer.

Some time later, even the guy who interviewed me was out from Basho.

Idk, whole process just fell very weird.

rasjani··on Nvidia Jetson TX1 Developer Kit SE
This is pretty decent device. Played around with these when I was working in automotive stuff in previous job and was playing with the idea that I'll get one of those to replace my current Kodi box.

Runs QNX atleast and Linux/wayland, no idea about possible Xorg drivers...

rasjani··on The Windows App Store Is Full of Pirate Streaming Apps
Apple does not, not even without the bookmark. A bit poor analogy but most probably do get what you meant :)
rasjani··on Internet Draft: Let 'localhost' be localhost
Right next to a Foo Bar
rasjani··on Building a Music Recommender with Deep Learning
Having a selection that has lyrical continuation from one song into an another is very typical also in reggae.

Reggae as "genre" itself is also quite varied in what goes under its label. There are also other factors that play a big weight on how good matches they are to reference material. Producer and decade make a huge difference but also what's known as "riddim" name should give clues.

rasjani··on Chromium Windows builds now use Clang by default
Qt5.9 comes with windows clang spec for qmake. Previously you could setup it on your own in windows and Linux wasnt probably that hard either. For OS X "clang" was always a default.
rasjani··on 14 Years After Decriminalizing Drugs, Portugal’s Bold Risk Paid Off
I can echo the same is very valid in Finland. Certain behaviors that are very stereotypical here are Protestant/Lutheran by nature. It's also a bit amuzing as mostly people don't recognize that and are typically very anti religion or atheist.
rasjani··on How a VC-funded company is undermining the open-source community
Kite has been mentioned few times in hn, latest here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13977982
rasjani··on How I didn't become a SoundClouder
Same in Finland.
rasjani··on New Skype Update Is Horrible
Or use the name for marketing purposes, Skype did actually work while Lync has always been pos. Maybe things have improved since but I have my doubts.
rasjani··on New Skype Update Is Horrible
Worked for company that was bought by MS. During the acquisition period, I was working for 3rd level enterprise support and were main contact for escalation of issues from our OS X users and MS. And yes, it never worked. Higher up guys where patting themselves on the backs for migrating to Lync and now it was So Well Executed while we in the actual client interface where left to deal with abysmal (platinum) support, private hotfixes, fixes what worked at one release and didn't on newer ones and all sorts of crazyness.

The "reason" that was said to be the issue was "our internal routing between the sites" and Yeah, pretty much every issue we had never manifested it worker was at home and used home connection or used cellphone client and gsm operator for data.

But yeah, fuck Lync. Worst gig ever. One reason why I think rebranding Lync to Skype for Business made sense: let's fool someone to buy it by letting them think they where getting same tech as real Skype, not just same shit with different name.

rasjani··on Selling t-shirts beats selling mobile apps
I can see the analogy of being indie musician and this - total income might not come from your main work but from all kinds of sources that is somehow related to it. In this merchandise.
rasjani··on Where Is Nokia Now?
Nokia owns bell labs. Theres no ties anymore with Microsoft.
rasjani··on Show HN: Sourcetrail – Get productive on unfamiliar source code
Im well aware of bear. Works fine in some cases, not so well in others. Author is also doing scan-build replacement in python which imho is far superior to bear.
rasjani··on Show HN: Sourcetrail – Get productive on unfamiliar source code
Compile commands ? Please Yes?
rasjani··on The State of Go – Where we are in May 2017
But they announced Android GO! /joke
rasjani··on Learn Kotlin in Y Minutes
Tried Kotlin few days ago. Started from "official" install docs and it said that it's just 'brew install kotlin". Yeah, it worked just fine but it would have been way nicer if they would have mentioned that you should also have Java 1.6 for compiler to actually work.
