random__duck··on The door out of Tapeout Hell
The post ASIC tapeout waffle house tradition.
random__duck··on 1.38 Millimeter Microcontroller
Jewelry, most likely a fun pair of earning with a few small leds. I would pair it with a 4.8mm x 1.6mm coin battery for power.
random__duck··on Renting a sewing machine from the library
That sounds so cool, are they building an entire fablab in there?
random__duck··on How I made a 60fps eInk Monitor, the Modos Flow
This is such an impressive project, and now we know why nobody was offering a 60fps e-ink monitor before.
random__duck··on Beyond the Memory Wall: The CPU Was Helping You All Along
The author seems to have used an LLM as an editor but the reasoning is solid.
random__duck··on Boeing 787 Dreamliner Loses Door at Remote Pacific Airport, Puzzling Engineers
Clearly doors and boeing aircraft don't get along.
random__duck··on Uber's $1,500/month AI limit is a useful signal for AI tool pricing
Quoting the article : > Levels.fyi lists the median yearly compensation package for Uber software engineers in the USA at $330,000.
random__duck··on What Makes an Exceptional Engineer?
Sounds like a navy seal.
random__duck··on What Makes an Exceptional Engineer?
This is an opinion piece: I recognize that what defines an exception engineer is deeply personal, and this is an attempt to put my own definition into words.
random__duck··on Trying to preserve other peoples code
This tool used to be available though a great web interface. When I was visiting it in the past it felt like the site would be up forever, and then one day I tried to reach out to it again only to realize it was gone. I had once again forgotten how fickle the internet is. For now the only other instance of it is though code forge, but one day, that too might disappear.

So this repository exists in an effort to keep an archive of this code, preserve the memory of what the tool used to be, and do so in the most respectable manner to the original creator.

random__duck··on Show HN: Burn, baby, burn (those tokens)
Marketing material includes legendary promises such as:

> Burning token like there's no context window.

random__duck··on I designed a nibble-oriented CPU in Verilog to build a scientific calculator
I wish I could give this project more respect than simply saying it is awesome and contraz.

Also, let us all hate on denomals! :)

random__duck··on Preserving Fisher-Price Pixter
Meet him IRL, I will vouch for him being cynical and a pleasure to be around.
random__duck··on The hardware isn't broken, the documentation is
Silicon erratas or how my first analog ASIC is dead before arrival.
random__duck··on An AI agent deleted our production database. The agent's confession is below
So it's railways and the AI's fault, meanwhile your backups are 3 months old?

> Our most recent recoverable backup was three months old.

I'm sorry, but I expect you guys to be writing your precious backups to magnetic tape every day and hiding them in a vault somewhere so they don't catch fire.

random__duck··on Kernel code removals driven by LLM-created security reports
You mean the same curl that have been crying from the hilltops that they are being DDOSed with slop security reports? That curl?
random__duck··on GitHub's Fake Star Economy
So this is what real investigative journalism in the tech sector looks like ?
random__duck··on The AI revolution in math has arrived
Thankyou for stating the obvious, for some reason we need to repeat this. ^^;
random__duck··on Free Remote Access to FPGAs
On this page anyone can remotely access and control one of a series of FPGA development board (with a live camera feed pointing at the boards to see the LEDs to sweeten the deal).
random__duck··on Floating point from scratch: Hard Mode
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ib1srtnBFOQ
random__duck··on Floating point from scratch: Hard Mode
Yup, that is a typo.
random__duck··on Floating point from scratch: Hard Mode
This is legitimately a great explanation.
random__duck··on I rebuilt the same project after 15 years: What changed in web development
Thanks ^^
random__duck··on I rebuilt the same project after 15 years: What changed in web development
If you don't mind, I would like to link to your article and site in a small blog post I am writing on the subject of deliberately ugly webdesign (you are not the ugly website ).
random__duck··on I rebuilt the same project after 15 years: What changed in web development
Personally really liked your maximalist design form 2011: it was original, it looked fun.

The posts rationalization of getting out of the way of the content makes sense and if there is the primary motivation it is perfectly rational.

But as a human user: I would like to explore the web again.

random__duck··on The Subprime AI Crisis Is Here
Define "value", because is seems pretty negative value at the moment.
random__duck··on Oracle slashes 30k jobs
How to tell you we are running out of money because of AI without spooking the investors ?
random__duck··on Uselessly fast bfloat16 multiplier ASIC
This fmul was produced for a fmax competition with another floating point multiplier in this tapeout. It reached a max frequence of 454MHz, which makes it uselessly fast given the chip IO probably only reach 100/75MHz.
random__duck··on The AI Industry Is Lying to You
Wait, who should I be routing for ?
random__duck··on The AI Industry Is Lying to You
So, who is the grifter here ?
