ramoq··on YC emails are sent
When do late applicants find out?
ramoq··on PiinPoint (YC W14) Knows Where Businesses Should Be Located
Congrats to Jim and co. Waterloo in the house!
ramoq··on Nodemailer: Easy e-mail sending from your Node.js applications
I used this in some past work about a year ago. It's fantastic.
ramoq··on A competitor emailed me moments after I signed up to Stripe
Oddly enough, this happened with me and Mixpanel the other day. I signed up for Mixpanel, and just a few hours later got a cold email from someone at RJ Metrics
ramoq··on Stop Using Your Inbox as a To-Do List
I think we're all stuck with using the inbox as a place for todo/tasks. But it isn't as gloomy as it sounds. The real power of email lies in it's ability to push/pull tasks seamlessly. All you need is an email address. I think I've found a solution that does this very well :)
ramoq··on Stop sending emails for real time requests
It's important to note that email is often the only contact info you'll have for a person. In fact I would highly prefer not to share my other social contact points(cell # etc). Email wins big in this regard. Really big.
ramoq··on Ask YC: What is our company going to make?
How about this PG: We're making Project Management software that works right in your inbox. Works across all email clients/devices/platforms. No installation required.
ramoq··on Tell HN: Startup school acceptance emails are out
Got accepted as well :D Anyone get rejected? I wonder how competitive it is/was this year
ramoq··on Show HN: Demo application for Eligible Web Services.
There we go, then I refer back to my original question(RBM's). I commented on this a while back on another thread. But radiology is where the big $$ is. Any plans to go look into this.
ramoq··on Show HN: Demo application for Eligible Web Services.
how does this jive with RBM's? Are you even including radiology related service codes?
ramoq··on Eligible (YC S12) Wants To Be The Stripe For Healthcare Transactions
I think this works fine for basic eligibility checks where it's just a matter of is it covered or not. But the real pain (and where hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars are spent) is in radiology. There is a lot of friction put into place (think RBM's) to make it difficult to order any imaging.
ramoq··on Show HN: Streak.com - Do sales, support and bug tracking all inside Gmail
Omar, this is fantastic. You rock
ramoq··on DotCloud (YC S10) Mix and Match Cloud Platform Launches
Accept my beta request!!
ramoq··on Someone fix timetracking
It should be something passive. Something that tracks your time the whole month/week/day and u just open up a panel and drag your time accordingly (ie, 4 hours using ECLIPSE IDE). Something that just requires the user to categorize or organize his time. Not track/enter it
ramoq··on Ask HN: Content filtering App
hmmm, perhaps what i'm describing is close to the idea of a lightweight web version of netnanny but only for a browser(s).
ramoq··on Not Even In South Park?
Probably worth while to mention that depicting Jesus in an inappropriate manner is _greatly_ disrespectful to Muslims as well. Jesus(peace be upon him) is among the most renowned Prophets of God in Islam.
ramoq··on Online Shop Till You Drop With Your Friends On Plurchase
This bad boy runs on the JVM! Very slick JRuby and Java(hibernate...)
ramoq··on Ask HN - What's your best startup idea?
I'm still frustrated by how far behind we (North Americans) are in terms of payments. What ever happened to using debit cards online? I find promise in email money transfers. But it's still a closed circle. Canadian banks only allow it among Canadian banks.
ramoq··on What Google Can't Copy (Easily)
I find it hard to believe that anything is off limits to Google due to technical complexity

I somewhat disagree. There are some things, most likely due to technical complexity and cost/effort, that google provides at a low level of quality. ie. gmail search!!

ramoq··on The State of Java
Not to mention Yodle (nyc). They have a strong dev team.
ramoq··on The State of Java
Honestly, if it wasn't for spring and jpa/hibernate I wouldn't be too interested in java. Spring has _really_ made a great impact on java and people have noticed.
ramoq··on Mint founder on Silicon Valley
sounds like they might have used java on the backend :)
ramoq··on Snaptalent Lesson One: Know Your Market
The interesting thing is that applying the "Make something that you would use" model helps to dissolve some of those market unknowns. Your market is yourself. In this case I don't think snaptalent's product was something that the founders themsevles wanted to use. I would go as far to say that a great startup idea is is validated by founder(s) own problems.

Note: I said startup _idea_ and not a great _startup_.

ramoq··on I have been defeated, java sucks
Spring framework still keeps me addicted to java. It's excellent.
ramoq··on Why Can't Gmail Search?
Agreed, Google could probably do it better. But imagine maintaining separate indexes for each and every gmail acct and constantly updating those indexes. reMail used to do something similar to that.
ramoq··on Why Can't Gmail Search?
Oh yeah, the gap in gmail's search ability does hint at possible startup ideas to solve this problem. However I wonder why some great startups have passed on directly competing in this sphere (reMail being a good example)
ramoq··on Why Can't Gmail Search?
I actually heard that it's quite costly to index emails for gmail (not from a gmail source, just random web chatter). It makese sense. Most emails are not important, they are just huge amounts of random chatter. I'd imagine indexing emails (full-text) properly would require some effort. The gmail team is probably on a budget :)

But then again, if they can index the web. Why not email.

ramoq··on Ask HN: Why don't we pay our rent online?
There has been some mention of some companies trying to solve problems in this space. But I return to the fact that this problem is still largely unsolved. My evidence is the fact that almost NO ONE I know pays rent online. If a solution exists it's complete lack of adoption hints at the fact that there are serious flaws in it's execution.
ramoq··on Ask HN: Why don't we pay our rent online?
Exactly, I think there are over at least 10+ companies in this space. But for some reason they all suck (and their domain names are far worse).

"We've tried three times to fund startups solving this problem" <- They never surfaced? Did they change gears along the way?

p.s. Debit payments online are usually not subject to high trans fees, but that could change soon (I'm from Canada)

ramoq··on Ask HN: Why don't we pay our rent online?
Yes it would be prudent to mention this question pertains to us North Americans :)
