rak00n··on I’m an Ex-Google Woman Tech Leader and I’m Sick of Our Approach to Diversity
I noticed this problem too. Teams can fail because of lack of empathy and emotional maturity. This is a much harder problem that doesn't have any simple solution.

rak00n··on Claude Shannon: How a Genius Thinks, Works, and Lives
I remember reading in Nikolai Tesla's biography how he didn't fit in the "way of Americans" feeling alienated and how his "correspondence" with women in USA felt odd.

It's not always about fitting into broader society. Tesla fit into a small niche of people who were into the same things. That's very similar to Shannon's story.

I don't have a LinkedIn account and I could read it.

That's stock market.

You face the same problems though. Bad codes are hard to debug and a simple mistake can cause you big time penalty. Some solutions get too complex to implement in time if you write bad codes.

So no, it doesn't promote writing bad codes.

rak00n··on My Improbable Graduation: From a Tiny Village in Ghana to Johns Hopkins
Not true. Plenty of people come to USA with H1B/F1 and make a good life here. Hell even Sundar Pichai is one of those people.

rak00n··on Why American Workers Now Dress So Casually
Funny you mentioned that. One of my reasons for becoming programmer was my 14 year old self watched The Matrix and thought Neo was pretty awesome.
rak00n··on Ask HN: How do I switch from being a passive consumer to an active producer?
I disagree. Some of the series I consumed through Netflix/HBO Now changed my perspective. That's a fair exchange of my time.
rak00n··on Ask HN: For those programming 10+ years, what do you wish you knew 4 years in?
Also it makes a huge difference for the next person who'd work on that codebase to add a new feature. Doing that could be anything between a breeze to a blazing nightmare depending on who wrote those codes earlier.
rak00n··on Ask HN: How to succeed in tech as an introvert?
Not only that. In order to work with other people you have to understand them to certain extent in order to have a peaceful coexistence. Having social grace is an essential quality to work with other people even if you don't want to be a manager.
rak00n··on Will the high-tech cities of the future be utterly lonely?

I wish more restaurants would accept Android pay. Right now I only use it in Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and sometimes in some random gas station which comes as a surprise.
rak00n··on Silicon Valley job seekers are increasingly looking for work elsewhere
You're mostly right. You definitely haven't lived in SF for long.

3. SF has plenty of parks.

4. SF has a few odd neighborhoods where you'd see shit on the street. It's not everywhere.

5. It's really nice to have not too hot summer and not too chilly winter. I absolutely love it.

6. People who live in San Francisco and own car know when to take the car and when to Uber. I don't take my car when I'm going to Tenderloin. I'd totally take my car if I'm driving to Golden Gate Park.

rak00n··on Why Online Dating Sucks for Men (2013)
Be yourself means stop giving a fuck about being perfect. That's sexy.
rak00n··on Why Online Dating Sucks for Men (2013)
Nope. Not everywhere.
rak00n··on Why Online Dating Sucks for Men (2013)
I don't want to put water down your enthusiasm but Portland and San Francisco have entirely different dating scene. What you did to be successful in Portland, won't make you successful in San Francisco or another city.

rak00n··on Ask HN: What books fundamentally changed the way you think about the world?
That's nice. They call that introvert hangover - http://nymag.com/scienceofus/2016/08/introvert-hangovers.htm....
rak00n··on Ask HN: What books fundamentally changed the way you think about the world?
Curious, how did you start using your introversion better?

This book gave me insight on who I am and why am I like this. It didn't change any of my behaviors.

rak00n··on Ask HN: What books fundamentally changed the way you think about the world?
Thoreau didn't condemn being a farmer. He pointed out how it doesn't go along with his values. Like an empty room you can fill in with thousand different things, we all have the liberty of choosing different values to fill our lives with. Bear in mind Thoreau never got married or had sex, which probably is almost everyone's recipe for a happy fulfilled life.
