raindropm··on NFT projects are just MLMs for tech elites
Your second last paragraph perfectly summed up my feeling about it. :p I don't want to touch it at first, since its scam/money laundering smell is very strong(and also environment impact) also I think overall thing is pretty stupid.

But after some time that I,um, "participate" in it, I can feel the lots of weird creative energy flowing in there, collectively. Not a thing we see often in today's world. It's quite rejuvenating, and crazy.

raindropm··on What it's like to spend 40-50 hours in VR every week
Thanks, now it feel even more disturbed lol
raindropm··on Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley reaches one billion views [video]
and my axe!!
raindropm··on The worst volume control UI in the world (2017)
Hell yeah. I have unreasonable amount of rage against that one haha
raindropm··on Incremental note-taking
Revisit your note later, right...But what if you forget about those notes in the first place? :p

I'm sure problem most people face with digital note is discoverability, things that digital Zettelkasten method want to solve. Once it inside your app, it rarely comes out. You forget about it completely except from some of most-used notes or unless you have a strong system in place(which most people don't)

Also, what paper has and digital notes lack, is spatial connection between you and your note. You can guess or estimate where or at what position your note is in your notebook, complete with time context, while digital notes live in abstract oblivion...

raindropm··on Reddit’s disrespectful design
There is that barebone, weird and non-pretentious, especially the feeling that "I don't do this for money and growth!!" of old internet that modern corporate-y site cannot replicate (hell, and I'm just 35)

Also, all those too much flairs and awards and stuffs somehow push me out of Reddit instead of bring me in. Maybe it's fun for younger generation though... I knew Reddit just about 5 years ago, and it feels more fun back then...

raindropm··on Wayfinder – a relaxing 'art game' in the browser
That name brings back so much memories! ;_;
raindropm··on Linus Torvalds on mRNA Vaccines
He actually explain things in details after bashing him, so yeah,.. also it's Linus we're talking about, people used to his direct-and-borderline-rude style already anyway.

I agree that the ideal approach is talking like grown-up, educated people and not just shouting in face, but it also depends on who're you talking to and how firm their belief in something are, too. Some require a good beating with virtual baseball bat a few times for them to start listen.. :p

raindropm··on No one gives a shit what programming language you use
..or those productivity porn out there.

Amateurs seek new apps, novel idea, or that best trick that will cure all procrastination. I've been there, and still be sometimes, but much less now since the system began to click and taking shapes after numerous (failed)attempt.

(Well, that made me semi-amateurs I think)

Professional have their own system(usually simple and routinely) and run their life with it. My mom and her trusty pencil & notebook run our household budget for fifty years!(and still going) I can't imagine doing that without some Excel...

Although I'm sure we're all amateur at some point in life...

raindropm··on Gun sales rise in past year, especially among women and African Americans
I'm an outsider, so I never understand how our American friends feel about this(the opinions divide, I guess) Because to me, guns breeds paranoia and distrust. It create the never ending vicious cycle of "That guy have one so I should have one to protect my family too, just in case."

But what if, say, having guns increase the risk of being attack from bad guy instead, because now they feel that you're a threat to them?

raindropm··on Adobe Photoshop's 'super resolution' made my jaw hit the floor
I got this one too. Try it with my old, pixelate JPEG photos taken with friends. AI decide to enhances faces in the photos, all seems good, until I saw some face..

...wait, THAT'S NOT MY FRIENDS!

raindropm··on Kinto: Mac-style shortcut keys for Linux and Windows
Great! I just search for a way to do this in Autohotkey a couple of months ago(not going very well, of course) Thanks for shameless plug! :)
raindropm··on Kinto: Mac-style shortcut keys for Linux and Windows
I map it to alt+tab. One press and it call most recent window, another press and it switch back.

I mean, you can press alt+tab quickly. But I like the simplicity of one button.

raindropm··on Zapier reached a $5B valuation with $1.3M of funding
Damn, misjudge the potential of some product made someone instantly lack of empathy? or maybe it's just that I can't feel deeply relate to everything, and not because I'm heartless bastard...(We can try to understand, yes)

Also, please don't tell other people that they lack empathy straight in the face, that's plain rude, and hey,...sounds like lack of empathy :p

Sometimes I think the application of that word is way too broad, especially in business setting.

raindropm··on Japan to stage Tokyo Olympics without overseas spectators
Um, can't we give those narrative a break even in the time of peril like this? It's just so out of context. It's global Pandemic dude! Controlling the risk from outsiders is the protocol in EVERY COUNTRY right now.

They host the Olympic, they seriously WANT everyone from every country to be in their country! and it's just can't happened right now.

If the situation is normal, and they refuse to let foreigner in, then we'll talk.

raindropm··on RSS as a Facebook alternative
More people should know about RSS. I explain how it work to my friends, they seems wowed, but don't see much used of it(It's the thing that you need to experience yourself, I guess)

I can't imagine how one keep track of various website of interest. It's like they don't know better, or unknowingly think that Facebook feed is everything they need and no other internet outside it (It's understandable, I don't blame them)

raindropm··on Hertz, the original meme stock, is turning out to be worthless
When the stock on the rise, people always think they're the shit, the genius investor blessed with lucky God — until it doesn't.
raindropm··on Hertz, the original meme stock, is turning out to be worthless
I'm sorry for being rude, but that's sounds like what people who lose all life saving said...
raindropm··on NFTs Are a Dangerous Trap
>NFTs are going to be more like Kindle books and YouTube videos. The vast majority are going to have ten views, not a billion. It’s an unregulated, non-transparent hustle with ‘bubble’ written all over it.

Some people will called Seth have no clue about technology or don't know what's he talking about, blah blah, but I think this is more about human psychology & behavior(also, greed) than technology, like any speculation game. History will repeat itself regardless of technology.

My opinion about 'current' use of NFTs: what a useless way to use our world's power. But who am I to judge...

raindropm··on Speed Is the Killer Feature
I'm curious about this so I open the task manager and just swing my mouse wildly. It did consume around 16% (from 4% at idle)

WAT.

raindropm··on Speed Is the Killer Feature
or an entire generation that will never realize how "doing nothing" or "being bored" is a good thing, or videogames don't require multiplayer or IAP to be fun.

I'm consider myself lucky to be born in the 'transitional period(1980s) I see the world of my parents and also have abilities to adapt with technology.

raindropm··on Dr. Seuss books deemed offensive will be delisted from eBay
Someone in the comment mention they care about how Chinese illustration portrayed in Dr. Seuss book.

Then I think about those old European drawing(in the age of colonialism) of Asian country around 1600s. So outrageous when you see it today. That is not how my country and people looks like! Should we ostracize those too?

Point is, I don't think everything is intentionally racist. Ok, sometimes it is, but many time it's just the limited understanding of different culture(and the rush of deadline that you need to produce some imagery NOW)

raindropm··on Single Board Computer thoughts and Amiga stuff
Just found this gem by chance. I'm not familiar with electronics stuff or vintage video console, but the illustration in the page is godlike.

Actually, every page on his(Arne's) website is ultra impressive.

raindropm··on Nvidia announces mining GPUs, cuts the hash rate of RTX-3060 in half
>If you can't see the practical utility of cryptocurrency in 2021, you're being willfully ignorant.

Maybe I'm willfully ignorant, but I just don't see any practical use outside of massive speculation game. Mind give us some examples? :)

raindropm··on Clubhouse’s Inevitability
I try it today, and give it up so quickly. I'm tired. Maybe it's not bad, my friends seems to like it.

Open the app first time, you'll be greet by screen that let you choose which topics you're interested and who you want to follow. I just can't bring myself to choose, because I suddenly feel "Is this yet another "productive" things I have to do? Just thinking about it make me tired already.

I have new books I bought lying around that I hardly touch, Pocket article that I rarely read(yet I save it everyday) Tutorial video I plan to watch, etc.

My answer to myself is what I need is "quiet" time, not another channel to bombard the information(no matter how good it is)in your head. The information is overloaded already.

Again, some people seems to like it, good for them then.(Anyway, I like their app icon. :)

raindropm··on “User Engagement” Is Code for “Addiction”
People just don't have "free", quiet time to think or to reflect about things anymore, stolen by various things, social media mostly. You'll operate in automatic, always-consuming mode, rigged by algorithm, and that doesn't help you thinking critically when this kind of ads comes up.

and companies exploit these things and make tons of money, sad.

raindropm··on The GameStop Story You Think You Know Is Wrong
It's their job to write something for a living :p

That's why I usually ignore "breaking" or "trending" news, or consume it in very minimal dose. Too many speculation, weird theory, a lot of he/she/they said, and not enough truth or fact.

(Also fortunately my job doesn't involve having to follow all those breaking news or else I'd gone mad by now)

raindropm··on HR is not your friend, and other things I think you should know
This is on point. Unfortunately many people confuse make your work visible with licking your superior's boot or just showing off(part of it is simply...the clashing of ego)

I personally think it's different. I'm not showing off type(and even the opposite) but I see how visibility of what you(or your team did)it is very important, because I don't notice other people's work outside of my team, either!:p

raindropm··on Jack Ma makes first live appearance in three months in online meet
It's about the status of people in the video and the general expectation of public of how they usually presented themselves. People of this caliber usually comes up with carefully craft image, along with good production. It's the same no matter where you live or born.

The Bezos and Gates example is just that, and example of famous people that we familiar with and that's it.

Chill man. Not everything is about race.

raindropm··on Context switching costs more than we give it credit for
The author lost me there too. I think the general experiences for many of us here is: you can't listen to music that occupied the same cognitive channel of what you're doing.

If you're thinking, writing, or planing(or anything with 'words' in your head or 'talk' to yourself), music with lyric is bad (though I found the effect more soften a bit if you listen to what you don't understand, e.g. foreign language music, still, zero lyric is crucial for thinking)

If your activity is not about words, but more 'action' (e.g painting , making art, gardening) then you can blast your ear with lyrics or the whole audiobooks all you want. It works great.
