raghus··on Facebook's Beacon May Have Broken the Law
Here's a post from Netflix's Community Blog that's relevant:

raghus··on Embed charts in webpages with one of our simplest APIs yet
You might not want to generate the chart for each page view - you'd probably store/cache the png at your end.

Of course if you need to generate > 50K dynamic charts/day then you're right.

raghus··on Think you have a secret life? Think again.
"Take all the web usage and YouTube video data Google has been acquiring about us all, glue it to our data down at the credit bureau, tie it to our mobile phone number and our mobile activity"...

Yahoo has as much, if not more data about us than Google - and for longer. Yahoo knows everyone I emailed for the past 10+ years (Yahoo! Mail), what links I find interesting (del.icio.us), what links I find interesting but don't want you to know about (Private del.icio.us), where I've been and who I meet (Flickr photos), who my trusted friends and family are (Flickr Contacts/Family), what online communities I take part in (Yahoo Groups) - and we haven't even touched on Yahoo Web Search History. Plus I've bought domains from them so they have my CC and home address.

If Yahoo wanted, I am sure they could build a frighteningly accurate dossier on most of us.

Why is it that all these Big Brother scenarios worry about Google finding out everything and more about us rather than Yahoo?

Is Yahoo such a has-been or has Google taken on quite the Sauron persona - the all-seeing eye?

raghus··on Google's Goal: Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal
It's this startling ambition that I admire most about Google. They're trying to shake up everything from print/tv/radio advertising to mobile phones to power to ...

Someday, we might all nod sagely and say "they should never have strayed from Search and AdSense" because it is entirely possible that they'll bleed a lot of money and fail on several of these - but it is great that they are audacious enough to try.

raghus··on Doctorow: How Your Creepy Ex-Co-Workers Will Kill Facebook
By 10am this morning, a friend of mine had already taken two movie quizzes and a trivia challenge - as faithfully reported by Flixster's PublishActionOfUser. I wonder what happens if her co-worker and FB friend, who might not like her too much shows her FB profile to their boss. It's one thing to let people waste time on your site - it's quite another to tell everyone exactly what they did and when they did it.
raghus··on Which Y Combinator backed companies are still alive?
I suppose the URL is proof enough that Amazon acquired them. There's a note as well that points to 10/2/07 and links to http://legacy.textpayme.com.
raghus··on The 21-Year-Old Behind Tumblr
On Pg2: "In Japan, we have tradition to value cute things high," a Japanese user, Yukihiro Matsumoto, wrote.

Hmmm...does the NYSUN reporter know who that Japanese user might be..?

raghus··on How To Make Your Own TinyURL service
It's not writing another tinyurl site that's difficult - there are a bunch of other url shortening services out there. Part of it comes down to how long people think you'll last and, so far, tinyurl has outlasted many startups - they'll likely be around well after Twitter has been acquired or replaced by some other service.

But yes, twitter can certainly roll their own.

raghus··on Y! releases YSlow for Firebug - Analyzes pages and tells you why they're slow
Interesting that http://developer.yahoo.com/yslow/ itself gets an F grade with YSlow
