raffael_de··on I am done with this shit
doesn't make sense timing-wise ... to train as a dentist takes longer than the LLM-hype has been around.
raffael_de··on Why isn't mutable a subtype of immutable, or vice versa?
as far as my set theoretical intuition goes, immutable has to be a subtype of mutable, if anything.
raffael_de··on HarnessTax: How Much Does the Harness Matter for Coding Agents?
> inventing new “fuzzy” regex

not RegEx ... more like a "fuzzy" DSL.

raffael_de··on HarnessTax: How Much Does the Harness Matter for Coding Agents?
> or make them similar.

identical. similar is what you tried and it didn't work.

raffael_de··on Make your first edit to OpenStreetMap
it's much easier than that. just go on osm.org, create account, click edit and then ... DONT edit ... but complete the tutorial offered right there ... then edit. anyway, it's fun to keep the neighbourhood up-to-date.
raffael_de··on Music Theory for the 21st-Century Classroom
what you seem to look for is a book about psychoacoustics. but even on that level you'll just have to accept that for some unknown reason humans consider certain pitch ratios as pleasant and even those that sound unpleasant have their place to express dissonance and tension and it's culturally dependent also. eventually there will be first attempts at a general music theory of which the western key based frameworks are special cases.
raffael_de··on iPhone Duo
to sell a phone for such a ridiculous price you need to make it as obvious as possible - a folded phone is pretty obvious - now people can buy it as a status symbol. what's the point of a status symbol if not everybody around you immediately recognizes the item as very expensive. there you go.
raffael_de··on I resigned from Anthropic today
> Let's just for the sake of discussion assume that one time in the future, near or distant, AI manages to become sentient. And like other forms of life, its main motivation is survival

An AI doesn't need to be sentient to exhibit behavior that looks like genuine motivation or is equivalent to striving for survival.

raffael_de··on 'You Can See Everything' Review: Nathan Fielder's Doc About Elizabeth Holmes
the trailer looks like a remake of the shining and shelley duvall has her hair dyed blonde.
raffael_de··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
possible that they just changed it for mobile.
raffael_de··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
oh, that's great. i thought the project is dead.

how would you (EDIT: publicly) host such a nitter instance while avoiding the risk of legal consequences?

since old.reddit (EDIT: on mobile) is closed for visitors without an account it would be great if there was also a neddit project.

raffael_de··on Tim Cook Sold Out Steve Jobs (2025)
hot take: tim cook could sell out apple only because google sold out android. it's like everybody is selling each other and their grandmas out these days.
raffael_de··on “I just chose words carefully”
the distinctive cadence is not a direct consequence from eliminating widows but from the mental process used to achieve this efficiently. language goes from natural fluidity to stacking Lego bricks.
raffael_de··on Defrag98: Windows 98 Disk Defragmenter Simulator Online
what a delight it was to behold this visualized process of reinstalling order. the music of the hard disk's seeks went from anarchy to harmony. watching the defragmentation felt like taking a cold shower after sweating all day long ...
raffael_de··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
those are just conveniences relevant to relatively wealthy citizens. i regularly travel to places outside of EU and none of these missing "benefits" have ever posed more than minor challenges.
raffael_de··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
what I like about xcancel is that it allows me to read but protects me from giving in to the temptation of wasting time by engaging in fruitless discussions. same problem with reddit. funny thing is that my current account just got permanently banned due to ban evasion ... that's fantastic as I can still join and read subs but I cannot post or comment.
raffael_de··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
isn't that what cyberpunk is in terms of a political something (as opposed to just an aesthetic)? f EU and its bureaucrats, f the corps and its shills ... about time we're going rogue now .. HACK THE PLANET!
raffael_de··on How Thailand Resisted Colonization
From what you write it appears to me that you have never been to Thailand.
raffael_de··on Initial focus for our partnership with Motorola is a regular non-folding device
Why would they emphasize the non-folding? As far I am concerned foldable smartphones can get bent ...
raffael_de··on Casio F-B100W-1A
as I use it the increment is regarding the minutes. for 30 minutes I tap 30 times. given that it's all open source you could certainly change increments to 30 seconds.
raffael_de··on Casio F-B100W-1A
only outsider info based on GitHub stats and Discord.
raffael_de··on Casio F-B100W-1A
yes, of course, one should also get the custom screen. offers a little more in terms of displaying.

not just OG ... also OSS as opposed to Ollee
raffael_de··on Casio F-B100W-1A
I really like my F91W case with a Sensor Watch Pro board and accelerometer sensor.

My favorite features:

- Piezo alarm is much louder.

- Countdown time can be incremented by tapping the watch.

- LED color can be changed by adjusting RGB values.

- It features sunrise/-set and moon phase info/calendar.

- I changed the week day names to German abbreviations.

- There are lots of intriguing watch faces that you can compile into your firmware.

Sadly, the project is in some disarray as the originator apparently lost interest and the community isn't moving uniformly. Would love to see such a project for Casio with 4 buttons as this would allow for a lot more interesting use cases ... the pinnacle would be a board for their calculator watches. That would be rad.

The Sensor Watch forum on Discord is pretty active.

raffael_de··on Meta's blockbuster trial draws parallels to big tobacco
the engagement argument could be applied to every commercial service or product. anything that is sold is getting optimized for appeal/attraction/engagement/adictiveness.
raffael_de··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway

raffael_de··on Ask HN: Does anyone else feel like nothing matters anymore?
you go from software releases to "Our entire purpose and joy in life has been taken from us." ... maybe your spiritual challenges are not caused by AI after all.
raffael_de··on Incident with Github.com
+1 (as a millenial) ... especially given that setting up a git server for non-OSS company code isn't too much of a challenge really. also, no need to self-denigrate this reasonable opinion in preemptive obedience.
