only outsider info based on GitHub stats and Discord.

yes, of course, one should also get the custom screen. offers a little more in terms of displaying.

not just OG ... also OSS as opposed to Ollee

I really like my F91W case with a Sensor Watch Pro board and accelerometer sensor.

My favorite features:

- Piezo alarm is much louder.

- Countdown time can be incremented by tapping the watch.

- LED color can be changed by adjusting RGB values.

- It features sunrise/-set and moon phase info/calendar.

- I changed the week day names to German abbreviations.

- There are lots of intriguing watch faces that you can compile into your firmware.

Sadly, the project is in some disarray as the originator apparently lost interest and the community isn't moving uniformly. Would love to see such a project for Casio with 4 buttons as this would allow for a lot more interesting use cases ... the pinnacle would be a board for their calculator watches. That would be rad.

The Sensor Watch forum on Discord is pretty active.

raffael_de··on Meta's blockbuster trial draws parallels to big tobacco
the engagement argument could be applied to every commercial service or product. anything that is sold is getting optimized for appeal/attraction/engagement/adictiveness.
raffael_de··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
care to provide examples?
raffael_de··on Ask HN: Does anyone else feel like nothing matters anymore?
you go from software releases to "Our entire purpose and joy in life has been taken from us." ... maybe your spiritual challenges are not caused by AI after all.
raffael_de··on Incident with Github.com
+1 (as a millenial) ... especially given that setting up a git server for non-OSS company code isn't too much of a challenge really. also, no need to self-denigrate this reasonable opinion in preemptive obedience.
raffael_de··on Mark Zuckerberg attacks 'closed' AI rivals as Meta returns to open models
the "albeit" gives away that the person you're responding to intended to write "unintentionally".
raffael_de··on The Hacker's Renaissance (2025)
I agree. Maybe that example was chosen because what chose it was an LLM fed with data up until about 2025 and nowadays that is sadly what "hacking" has become - cartoonish, pointless toy projects ... like the infamous make Doom run on a washing machine.
raffael_de··on Is it all just vapourware?
you're moving the goal post as language models and agents aren't marketed as something like circular saw but a team of carpenters that you just tell what you want and they do it for you.
raffael_de··on US Military's cyber command unit grapples with cluster of deaths by suicide
most medical professions have higher rate. it's usually attributed to being constantly subjected to pain and suffering plus physicians can source pharmaceuticals to exit softly. never heard that it professionals are particularly prone to suicide.
raffael_de··on US Military's cyber command unit grapples with cluster of deaths by suicide
i'm pretty sure that segment has lower than average suicide rate. well paid, well educated.
raffael_de··on As a Windows user, it's a surreal way to install a program
As someone who grew up with Windows the canonical equivalent action would have been to select "install" from the dmg file's context menu (which is opened by a right click). The MacOS way to do it feels too gimmicky and different-for-being-different's sake ...
raffael_de··on I'm switching my phone from Android to Linux
also the retrograde auto corrections drive me nuts ... like i type a word (correct) then next word and it adjusts the previous word. attempted several times to deactivate that "feature" - didn't figure out how.
raffael_de··on More German than many Germans
> In January 2024, after it came out that far right politicians had talked about deporting people who already hold a German passport

That is - as determined by a German court - something between fake news and severely distorted representation of what happened.

raffael_de··on Europe's fires are just the start
being good at fighting fires is part of the problem as that allows people to keep natural limited area fires from happen regularly and then eventually you get one huge fire.
raffael_de··on I'm 38 and I Can't Support Myself Anymore
don't forget the legal costs insurance to pay the lawyer making the LTD insurance actually pay and a second legal costs insurance to pay the lawyer suing the primary LCI as they will likely claim that case isn't covered by their policy.
raffael_de··on Simulate cassette tape audio profiles using FFmpeg
what is the appeal of cassette sound effects / analog cassette sounds? is it nostalgia?
raffael_de··on I regret migrating to Codeberg
> AI contributions

using AI is not vibe coding. the difference is whether a developer takes responsibility and the according measures before releasing/contributing or not.

raffael_de··on Why Sony can't bring back its classic Walkman models
Not just an issue with Walkmans but also other device types like digital cameras and Mp3 players. Sad because it seems like more and more people discover the appeal of dedicated devices versus carrying a smartphone around all the time.

I offer this lesseon: don't bother trying to impress "the average person" (or anybody). do what gives you joy.

raffael_de··on Pebble Mega Update – July 2026
the key differentiator is it's driven by open source software and leaves you in control over your data. i shouldn't have to tell you this. given the price point nobody would buy this watch for its technological aspects.
