racuna··on Session is shutting down in 90 days
A few months ago, a Session update logged me out. I tried to log back in, but my passphrase caused Session to crash. I tried the Play Store version, the F-Droid version, and the desktop version.

Support told me that login method had been around for a while, and I didn’t know it. So suddenly, I was locked out and couldn’t access MY ACCOUNT. I used to promote Session, but since their support response was basically a big “fuck you,” I say “fuck you too,” and I hope people switch to SimpleX.

racuna··on MessagEase decided to go subscription-based, here's some alternatives
I'm also interested in this. MessageAse was my daily driver keyboard until some bugs appeared, then I switched to Multiling O (here's my messagease inspired layout https://github.com/racuna/multiling-o-esbr ) but is also abandoned with not fixed bugs.

Now I'm using thumb-key as my daily keyboard but waiting for them to add more features, or just jump to another keyboard app.

racuna··on Show HN: Use ChatGPT, Bing and Bard in one app
Nice one, how can I add it to Firefox?
racuna··on Weight x Reps (weightxreps.net) released as open source
Weight For Reps is a training journal logging tool to help you keep track of your weight training. Mostly orientated towards Powerlifting/Weightlifting style of training.
racuna··on Ask HN: Where do you post your writing?
mov.im a xmpp based social network
racuna··on Google Tag Manager, the new anti-adblock weapon (2020)
I used to use AdNauseam a while back, until ads started to show suddenly. So I switched to UBlock Origin, and ads stopped to show again.

After I read your comment, I disabled UO and installed AN again. Maybe some update fixed the issues. But it didn't. I'm now back using UO again.

racuna··on Foobar2000
I like Quodlibet, but I had to switch to Foobar2000 in my working laptop (Win10) because some library wasn't working properly.

On my personal laptop (PCLinuxOS), Quodlibet is working fine.

Both audio players are pretty bare bones until you start to customize them with their add-ons.

racuna··on Music industry is suing youtube-dl hosters
I use youtube-dl to convert to audio some videos and listen them as a podcast in antennapod.
racuna··on Darebee – A database of workouts
They had a very popular workout called "Batman", but DC send a copyright infringement claim.

That's why I started to follow them. There is no such thing as bad publicity. LMAO

racuna··on The day my script killed 10k phones in South America
I'm from Chile, never heard of thousands of phones being blocked here.
racuna··on “Weight For Reps”: released a new version
This site provides a way to log your weight training workouts (Most suited for Powerlifting).

New version is cleaner, and looks (mostly) very nice. IMHO.

racuna··on The only skin care that works? science video response (2020)
I still don't know how to balance avoiding sun damage, vs vitamin D deficiency (more sun). LMAO.
racuna··on Show HN: Less Addictive YouTube – a cross-browser plugin
Since Firefox 88+ (on a Linux distro) started to play Youtube videos with a lot of issues: choppy, bad audio, and so on.

That make it "less addictive" to me.

And I don't have plans to upgrade my laptop to hardware decoding vp9 streams

racuna··on Running shoe tech: issues for the integrity of running (2020)
Agree, I was in denial for years trying to "correct" my flat feet with minimal shoes (plus focusing in my running technique), arc strengthening exercises, stretches, and so on. But I never was able to run past 3k without knees pain.

Then I bought cheap insoles with arc support and the next run I was able to run 6k without any issue.

I'll never will be an elite runner. But at least I can go outside and enjoy a good sweat in the park time to time.

racuna··on OpenStreetMap proven to be a highly accurate map in top US cities
I used it while backpacking across Europe back in 2019. Very useful when I was offline.

But a lot of building numbers were missed.

So I had to use Google Maps when I had Internet connection.

racuna··on Ask HN: Hey Drew, why is Dropbox becoming so bad?
I'm merely using Dropbox on Android to scan and upload documents without issues.

For big ass folders and files I use syncthing, tho.

racuna··on Gadgets That Refuse to Die
Cowon X7. Heavy, weird UI, but very good sound and capacity (160Gb)
racuna··on Gadgets That Refuse to Die
I still using my Sony Smartwatch 2 (2014), not even changed the wristband. The only thing is lack of software updates and support.

Sony made very good hardware. But they are not good updating their software. Just like the Sony Xperia Play, they don't even upgrade their Android version when they could.

racuna··on Tricks to start working despite not feeling like it
I switched to podcasts instead of music to workout. Most of the podcasts I listen are very motivational, also keeps my english from getting rust and I can learn something while I pumping iron.

racuna··on GrapheneOS – A privacy and security-focused mobile OS with Android compatibility
Also, https://postmarketos.org/ is a good project too.
racuna··on Are Avocados and Almonds Vegan?
My first impression was "D'uh", but then, from the article:

> Vegans avoid animal products. For strict vegans this means avoiding honey because of the exploitation of bees. That seems to imply that vegans should also avoid vegetables like avocados that involve exploiting bees in their production.

I'm not vegan, so I don't know how deep they are involved in "not animal exploitation" even is not obvius nor direct

racuna··on I/O Is Faster Than CPU – Let’s Partition Resources and Eliminate OS Abstractions [pdf]
On Exadata architecture (and the recent versions of Oracle Database) the search is made by the hardware, not the software.

I'm not a fan of Oracle, but things like that are awesome.

racuna··on A former lead designer of Gmail fixes Gmail with a Chrome extension
Gmail works awful on Firefox (slow, heavy memory usage, etc).

Some things are fixed in the last releases of FF, but according of what I read recently, Google is doing this on purpose.

Any addon or userscript recommended?
