SEEKING FREELANCE - Germany

I am currently working in Munich (Germany) and looking for a freelancer job on my spare time.

rabc··on Defending Our Brand
I didn't believe when I received their email about it and bashing Let's Encrypt initiative. If StartSSL could do it, why they haven't done it years ago? Bunch of scumbags.

rabc··on Parse and React, a Shared Chemistry
I'm in love with React and starting to use it everywhere. Should I already get worried it will be deep tied to Parse?
rabc··on Ask HN: Anxiety is limiting my enjoyment of a wonderful career. Can you relate?
I didn't go through all the comments on the thread, but so far what I've seen is just bullshit. People around here are reading too much the DSM (or going to the wrong therapist, pick one).

You have anxiety, OP? Good! Most of us have to deal with it. No, I'm not saying "stop it and cheer up!". It's a real problem, but doesn't need to be a problem that will make your life stop.

I went to a roller-coaster of emotions in the last 2, 3 years (from valleys of depression and anxiety to peaks of extreme happiness). I went through everything you said, the impostor syndrome is the fuckin' worst shit that can happen to someone. This train still hits me, sometimes. That's not easy.

How did I overcame it? Changing my thoughts. The impostor syndrome faded away when I realized that the people around me don't know what they're doing, too! Nobody knows how everything works and I'm still looking for answers about how the world didn't meltdown yet.

See? I didn't get any better changing my mind by saying that I'm good and I know what I'm doing. I got better because now I see that everyone are lost, just like me!

Fear of embarrassment? Learn to fix quickly what you did wrong. Nobody will notice nor will care if everything is working. And when you see that other people are lost too, as I said above, you won't care if you're good or don't.

At the end of the day, it's just you that matters. You don't need to proof you're good to everyone. You know that you're good because the point you've reached in your life.

I'm a Software Engineer with experience in integrating two sides of a project (example: a mobile app with a backend API, doing both at the same time or working close with one of the sides), fixing a database structure and informations (migrating from an old to a new way of doing things) and starting projects from scratch, with a total of 9 years of professional coding experience.

I'm an iOS developer since the old days of iOS 3, always an indie developer and being a full-time developer for 3 years. In the indie life I had the opportunity to build a bunch of apps that have been published sometime along the years and 2 apps that are current live in the app store (contact me for more information).

rabc··on Linda Sandvik Resigns As Director Of Code Club
AFAIK, you can express your believes as a person and don't need an endorse of your volunteer group.
rabc··on Linda Sandvik Resigns As Director Of Code Club
"Here, take all this money and be quiet about everything we do". That's not how a healthy society works.

Google are sponsoring Code Club not because they're good guys, but because they have some business interest in it.

They must be accountable for their actions, good or bad. Linda Sandvik expressed her believes as a person and she did great not accepting being silenced just because she was hurting the feelings of a big company.

rabc··on Show HN: Does Facebook know your friends better than you do?
Cool animations and simple idea.

(Just a friendly reminder for everyone else: remember to delete the app from you Facebook. You can find it by the name you.me.we on Settings > App Settings)

rabc··on Amazon Cognito
It's the same with almost every BaaS. Do you want your data? Pay for it.

That's why I always advocate for building your own backend, if you have a long-run plan and/or expect to generate a lot of data for the app.

rabc··on Show HN: DeveloperAgents – a newsletter to promote remote developers
Something like that. Then you can make a selection based by github, mobile apps published (counting even the non-worldwide apps, for developers from other countries like me), academy works and other projects (websites, hardware, etc).
rabc··on Show HN: DeveloperAgents – a newsletter to promote remote developers
Great idea, but it seems to be designed for well connected people. I don't know anyone outside my country and I really want to work abroad someday (I had plans for it in the past year, but have to abort the idea for some reasons and want to try again next year).

How can I appear in the newsletter? Just asking a friend to send me in the form? But maybe he's not a well connected person too, and the 2 referrals in the latest newsletter[1] are from people who live and work in the startup world.

So, in the end, it becomes a lottery: ask someone to send your name and wait for your luck.

rabc··on Introducing the new PHP on Heroku
In the end, it's just business. Heroku is owned by Salesforce.com and they want to make more money.

The Ruby community is for Ruby. Period. A company can't dictate their own policies based on ideas of just one community.

rabc··on Announcing Stack Overflow in Portuguese
Brazilian developers don't google in portuguese because they know it'll always be faster to search in english, but I have seen a lot of developers struggling to find the answer in english because they can't understand and don't know how to search.
rabc··on iOS 7 Tech Talks
São Paulo session last time in iOS 5 was great and really crowded. Too bad we're out this time :(
rabc··on Hacker School: Summer 2012 Applications Open + Etsy Scholarships
Yes, because we all live in a society with gender equality, right?

> filter the scholarship candidates based on female-oriented areas of study

Yes, girls must play only with dolls, because only you (man) should play with the cool stuff.

rabc··on Hacker School: Summer 2012 Applications Open + Etsy Scholarships
Awesome. No more words to describe.

I thought that Hacker School is an amazing idea since the first time I read about it. Now, it became something much more bigger, a response to the sexism that spread in software development (it's not an exclusive problem from U.S., but it's a start to inspire everyone else).

My congratulations to Hacker School team and to Etsy initiative.

I hope someday I can attend to some batch :)

rabc··on Show HN: Clutch.io helps you build iOS apps fast and update them instantly
Cool! Another way to build crappy iPhone apps with HTML!

App Store rules exist for a reason. There is better ways to make them reduce the approval time by not creating workarounds to build your app with limited HTML.

rabc··on StackOverflow
"Hey, look! They're making money with my knowledge! How they dare to do that?"

Welcome to real world.

rabc··on The Path to Hacker School
Yes, 3 months. 3 weeks was me trying to think clearly late night doing a lot of things at same time :P

AFAIK, visitor are allowed to stay for 90 days (3 months) in U.S. with a travel visa. nandemo info was really useful, I will read that careful.

rabc··on The Path to Hacker School
Great story, great idea, great plan.

Since it's only 3 weeks, I don't think you Hacker School has too much problem accepting foreign students. But it will be a problem for startups trying to hire? Or they're OK aout trying a foreign employee?

A suggestion: Hacker School don't provide certification or grading, but you could set a page with the names of the students for future reference.

I'm really thinking about taking a 3-week vacations and try Hacker School after I finish my Master of Science degree. Even if it's just to learn more :)

rabc··on SimpleGeo To Be Acquired By Urban Airship
I'm starting writing an essay for my Software Engineer graduate course and it will be about architecture and design patterns for geolocation systems.

I checked SpacialDB page and it seems to be really good and useful for my essay, I want to use it to describe one of the three cases. Can you send me a beta invite, please? I registered there with this email: ricardo [at] fences [dot] com [dot] br

I'm working on a business startup project and this essay will be part of it, so I would like be a new customer when project start.

[edit] (ps.: I'm from Brazil. Feel free to contact me with that email.)

rabc··on SimpleGeo To Be Acquired By Urban Airship
Foursquare is good for a simple and fast list of places, but the data inside that is incomplete sometimes.

This Factual is new to me and seems good, I will see it better later (big list of places for Brazil, exactly what I need sometimes).

rabc··on SimpleGeo To Be Acquired By Urban Airship
I don't know any other service like Simplegeo.

MongoDB has some pretty good geo-aware methods worth looking.

rabc··on SimpleGeo To Be Acquired By Urban Airship
I'm a geolocation fan and developer from a long time, so always watched and tested Simplegeo. But it seems they never got too much traction because their platform is very specific, even for geolocation systems (someone correct me if I'm wrong, please).

Yes, they have a pretty big apps showcase, but it's not enough sometimes.

Anyway, if they get acquired by Urban Airship, it will be great. UA will have a better use for their platform (and UA will need geolocation soon), and I'm happy Simplegeo will have a good use (what they built is really awesome, if you understand geolocation).
