rabbitofdeath··on Quake Brutalist Jam II
OH man. So many hours in Quake - I'll have to learn how to get one of these engines up and running.
rabbitofdeath··on Linksys WRT54G and WRT54GS power supply (2005)
Making sure you get UV resistant zip ties is key.
rabbitofdeath··on What Happened at Bricklink?
I just got an email from BrickLink saying that they "temporarily closed the BrickLink site due to unusual activity."

Anyone have insights?

rabbitofdeath··on Nanofiche: Small Storage, for Forever
Why is this getting downvoted?! This is absolutely detrimental to any future history!
rabbitofdeath··on Espanso: Open-source, privacy-first, cross-platform and extensible text expander
Just here to show my love for Espanso -I've used it for the past 4 years and it is invaluable.
rabbitofdeath··on Ask HN: Is it reasonable to ask a client to pay me royalties?
Totally agree - it would have to be a 2.0 version to do it right.
rabbitofdeath··on Ask HN: Is it reasonable to ask a client to pay me royalties?
Speaking as a freelancer myself, I would be kicking myself if I were in your shoes, but I think its a bit tasteless to go back and ask for royalties now. I'd keep this option in mind for similar systems you plan on building (or if you sell the system to someone else and make it a subscription platform.)
rabbitofdeath··on Matrix 2.0: The Future of Matrix
I love matrix - I've been running a Synapse homeserver for over 2 years now for friends and family. We love it. Despite minor problems (upgrading postgres for example) it has been smooth sailing. I really want to stay up to date but they don't make it easy! I'd love to add sliding-sync to my existing docker stack, but I feel like I'm in way over my head!
rabbitofdeath··on Ask HN: What method do you use to send a link from smartphone to laptop?
I like Firefox Sync- this allows sending links to any of my devices. I find it particularly useful when I find a site if interest in my phone and want to look at it on my desktop later. Occasionally I’ll use email or message myself via Element/Matrix.
rabbitofdeath··on This page exists only if someone is looking at it
SO this totally popped into my brain - there was a PHP script you could add to your site called Crisc - https://web.archive.org/web/20021010104130/http://biomatic.o... It showed your IP and you could send a message to the other visitors on the site - I was blown away at the time I saw this.
rabbitofdeath··on Show HN: I automated half of my typing
WOW! I use Espanso and love it - this will send me off into new rabbitholes!
rabbitofdeath··on That Old NetBSD Server, Running Since 2010
OH man I forgot about PogoPlugs -I had about 3 of them around the house before raspberry pi's took over - they were running silly things like dlna and a VERY slow OwnCloud installation - thats really when I got into self hosting.
rabbitofdeath··on n8n.io - A powerful workflow automation tool
ah Thanks!
rabbitofdeath··on n8n.io - A powerful workflow automation tool
Ok slightly off topic, but how do you pronounce/say n8n? Like nation?
rabbitofdeath··on Following pushback, Zoom says it won't use customer data to train AI models
This. I saw the post and had a mildly customized Jitsi running on my docker host on Hetzner within 2 hours. I'm amazed at the performance and stability of the Jitsi.
rabbitofdeath··on Source code for Quake 2 rerelease
This. If you aren't helping test your company's security - who is??
rabbitofdeath··on 5 Years of Pop _OS
Just a happy Pop user- been rock solid for me for 3 years- the features they add are really seamless and well thought out. Congrats on 5 years!
rabbitofdeath··on Lychee – Self-hosted photo-management done right
100% this - I tried a handful of self-hosted options and PhotoPrism is the fastest that I tested with sane folder organization for your filesystem.
rabbitofdeath··on Weird monitor bugs people sent me in the last 5 years
Disappointed that this isn't about CRTs and moths and other bugs /s
rabbitofdeath··on Espanso Cross-Platform Text Expander
I absolutely ADORE Espanso - I use it for stupid stuff, but for note taking and formatting dates I love it. I just have simple expansions `:gp` does `git pull` `:dcd` does `docker-compose down` and for common tasks, you can do alot!
rabbitofdeath··on OctoPrint: Snappy web interface for your 3D printer
The extensibility of OctoPrint is amazing - the community that builds plugins (and keeps them up to date!) is nothing short of astounding.
rabbitofdeath··on Universal Media Server. A DLNA, UPnP and HTTP(s) Media Server
This may be worth a look - I've been using minidlna for probably 10 years and nothing has been as simple as that!
rabbitofdeath··on What are your most used self-hosted applications?
OH man I love finding new apps like this! Here is my list: Pihole LOVE it. Paperless-ngx minidlna (can't bring myself to use jellyember or whatever) NextCloud synapse/matrix - about 10 active users element-web archivebox vaultwarden duplicati baikal home-assistant navidrome nginx-proxy-manager photoprism syncthing ttrss gitea
rabbitofdeath··on Pine64 should re-evaluate their community priorities
YES- I recently got a PinePhone and after distro hopping I felt the same way but couldn't put my finger on it. Somethings work in some distros (Mobian vs Manjaro) and it was really frustrating and its not immediately clear why it doesn't work- obviously people are working on it just not together. This is a good priority list that would help herd these cats!
rabbitofdeath··on Love Letters of Intent
I thought this was a twist on the card game Love Letter :(
rabbitofdeath··on HiFiBerryOS
If you want a full system (that can play music from a NAS (SMB or NFS) check out [moOde](http://moodeaudio.org/)
rabbitofdeath··on Archivebox 0.4 Released
Thanks for creating it! I have nearly 100gb of archives today and you have the simplest app to do it!
