r-w··on Motivation – Keli Language
What gave you the idea that most FP uses macros? Much code in functional languages uses no macros at all. Perhaps you are confusing FP with Lisp.

Then it wouldn't be a joke, it would be "art".
r-w··on Clover: An all-in-one notebook
I also look forward to trying it out :) I'm not committing to taking all my important notes into it, but I'm interested in the product. Maybe I'm naïve, but I think there's progress to be made on the front of proactive note-taking apps, and I'm excited to see what this app has to offer.

r-w··on Crush: A command line shell that is also a powerful modern programming language
It's my understanding that commands don't have to be specially written for Crush. As long as they speak an understandable format, they can be used. https://github.com/liljencrantz/crush#reading-and-writing-fi...

r-w··on Latest Firefox rolls out Enhanced Tracking Protection 2.0
[not OP] What are your specs? I'm on a MacBook Air and was still seeing this. Will check again shortly.

N.B. I'm currently a happy user of Brave as it has integrated AdBlock-style blocking, fingerprinting protection, and HTTPS Everywhere. I'm always evaluating my options as a user, though!

I think Glassdoor[1] would be a better analogue.

r-w··on Bootstrap v5: drop Internet Explorer support
Why would one think that?
r-w··on This Video Has X Views
I don’t think those requirements will be met until people like us who miss it put our money where our mouth is ;)
r-w··on Jitsi Meet: An open source alternative to Zoom
How many people do you know who would be competent enough to use a teleconferencing web app?
r-w··on Zoom iOS app sends data to Facebook even if you don’t have a Facebook account
Unfortunately, this is one case where being open-source would probably make the scanner easier to game.
r-w··on Zoom iOS app sends data to Facebook even if you don’t have a Facebook account
I’m pretty sure NIST has more engineers than politicians. The same cannot be said of Congress.

> The other person has to feel threatened or such.

Nope, they just have to want it to stop :)

r-w··on Facebook sues Namecheap
This doesn’t scale to companies that, unlike Facebook, can’t afford the ongoing associated costs.
r-w··on Facebook sues Namecheap
Didn’t they file that against Namecheap, not the registrants?

That ideal won’t come true for a very long while. I appreciate your idealism, but for better or worse, we need a reasonable and attainable solution in the interim.
r-w··on People kept working, became healthier while on basic income: report
> […] services to actually help protect those most vulnerable to scams

Services? This sounds more like a legislative than a marketplace problem. Pardon if it’s forward to ask, but what service do you envision could have helped protect your mother?

r-w··on People kept working, became healthier while on basic income: report
> Watching your parents go to high-powered executive jobs doesn’t “prepare” you for work in the 21st century either, education does.

Lucky for you, if your parents go to high-powered executive jobs, then you’ve won the jackpot and will probably receive a higher education!

r-w··on People kept working, became healthier while on basic income: report
> […] its value as a signaling mechanism, which is where the majority of modern education's value lies in the first place.

I’m not sure education is a very high-resolution or effective signal for much, and I think its dilution as a signal would help force us to find a better one. I’m curious though, given how self-assured you seem: what do you think education signals right now?

r-w··on People kept working, became healthier while on basic income: report
I’m confused. Is “means-tested” supposed to be a degrading adjective? Because I think the fact our existing social safety nets are “means-tested” is exactly why people have doubts about UBI.
r-w··on Where Sci-Hub Is
Seems plausible. Do you have a source?
r-w··on Where Sci-Hub Is
This is the equivalent of “If you want this conversation to end, why don’t YOU stop talking?” You already know the solution to the problem you’re having, which is to either make better points or stop inviting more replies.

I’m pretty sure that’s only true for Chrome at this point.
