qwerty_clicks··on How to Write with an LLM
I feel like it normalizes writing faux pas; any use of a semicolon could have just been a new sentence.

I’m thinking that people that get years semi-colon and colon filled paragraphs are going to believe this is a normal and good way to write on their own.

qwerty_clicks··on Why is Google still serving dodgy ads?
Keep up these efforts to name and shame. If Google won’t act on these things because it doesn’t make them money, because they are unregulated, or because they are lazy, they might because it still cuts their credibility and reputation. Especially here on HN where Google is no longer considered such a darling by developers and thinkers.
qwerty_clicks··on OpenAI fought dirty on career-making math problem
Open ai will do everything it can to convince us it’s unlikable and fulling an optional worse version of AI that we don’t want the world to be. Altman is so Zuckey
qwerty_clicks··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
The us is not a first world country.
qwerty_clicks··on Flock updates privacy, accountability, security, and transparency safeguards
Flock is still a snowballing disaster for eroding personal privacy and increasing abuse.

Guns have safety triggers but cops still have no problems with discharging them too quickly and wrongly.

Let’s learn from guns, we should have limited them in the US decades ago and today the problem is hugely based on lack of will for action at every step in history.

qwerty_clicks··on Why are US consumers so angry? It's not just high prices
Yeah just go to a local store and buy something. Feel some community and support community. It’s the life you’ve been missing and trying to buy with Amazon
qwerty_clicks··on Why are US consumers so angry? It's not just high prices
Processes are hollow and some AI isn’t making my life any better. Goods are junk and there are few examples of common physical craftsmanship in the marketplace. MAGA just want a well made jacket but they are on a life line of Walmart wages and goods. I get it. Rage is appropriate yet misguided.
qwerty_clicks··on Why are US consumers so angry? It's not just high prices
A thousand examples of efficiency and ease has me standing in a broken self checkout buying some fake-ocean scented deodorant I probably done need but was perfectly marketed to make me feel inept without it, in a plastic container that was bigger last year but now costs $9 and the scanner thinks I didn't put it in the bag yet and I’m just so sad to fight or resist after an 9 hour work day that ill end up going home and eat frozen food and watching a bad remake of an old blockbuster. Of course consumers should be angry. The lies and greed are gutting society while rewarding white color mid level VPs at PG and Kroger. What a future to be excited about.
qwerty_clicks··on Claude Science
Should be called Claude-bio-big-bucks.

What about earth science, physics, engineering? The connectors and skills are all just biology and pharma. Boo

qwerty_clicks··on Millimeter wave technology drills 100 meters into granite
No fossils in granite. Drilling shake shouldn’t require new technology, most shales are easy to drill (except cherts, where again, no fossils. I doubt this tech would be needed for exploration but for reliable brownfield development.
qwerty_clicks··on Microsoft Office 2019 and 2021 for Mac view-only conversion
Numbers is not excellent. It’s stubborn and unhelpful.
qwerty_clicks··on A reality check on the AI jobs hysteria
I’m working at a major fortune 100 company, they don’t even have MS foundry set up. There are probably ~10 ai use cases or less in the company now. So much hinges on figuring out who will grant permissions to create a resource or app ID…. The companies jobs are safe because they are sooo far behind and self-limiting.
qwerty_clicks··on Waymo Safety Impact
Crashes are not accidents. Language matters. People should go to jail for harming others
qwerty_clicks··on Waymo Safety Impact
In Houston the stats suggest that every driver should get into a crash at least once every. But many ppl haven’t been an crash all their lives and more have been in multiple
qwerty_clicks··on Waymo Safety Impact
A city with driverless cars is still a city dominated by cars. Bikes, trains, busses, and walking support the human soul and a city worth living in so much more than a robot car that requires car infrastructure and mentality.
qwerty_clicks··on DARPA’s new X-76
Can we please just spend some money on social welfare and our people?
qwerty_clicks··on Geologists may have solved mystery of Green River's 'uphill' route
As a geologist with 2 degrees and a lot of passion in the subject, I’ve never heard of lithospheric drip related to orogenic dips until now, but I love it and kick myself for not questioning the over simplicity of typical thought around lower crust processes enough.
qwerty_clicks··on Google removes ICE-spotting app following Apple's ICEBlock crackdown
Could a web app be as secure and useful?
qwerty_clicks··on Meta Ray-Ban Display
I can’t believe they believe this is what people want. Why isn’t Zuckerberg doing the demo in the metaverse? Ha
qwerty_clicks··on How People Use ChatGPT [pdf]
I commonly switch between chatgpt, perplexity, and copilot. Whatever is closest to my mouse or shortcut. Copilot is clearly the worst of the three but I have not true loyalty or most of the time, care. I suspect I am getting weak model responses from perplexity at times but it’s good enough to keep moving fast. Sam mentioned brining memory to people, not just because it’s what ppl want but I suspect my it will help to lock ppl into one platform of snowballing context.
qwerty_clicks··on How People Use ChatGPT [pdf]
Work could Be dropping from the limit of ChatGPT in the workplace and use of CoPilot in a secured Microsoft tenant.
qwerty_clicks··on Grapevine canes can be converted into plastic-like material that will decompose
I’ve worked for two refining companies. They aren’t about to rebuild their global infrastructure to make this happen…it doesn’t matter what possible, it’s what corporations can buy out politicians and the rich building a society that benefits them.
qwerty_clicks··on Grapevine canes can be converted into plastic-like material that will decompose
It’s not a radical thought to hold corporations accountable after they have limited our choices and controlled markets. So many things most Americans buy are manufactured needs so built into the culture that we think we need it. Proctor and gamble have written books about strategy that synthesize a market.
qwerty_clicks··on Electric cars produce far less brake dust pollution than combustion-engine cars
Slow speed turning wears tires hard and unevenly. Like geologic erosion, such wear can promote and accelerate more cutting.
qwerty_clicks··on Geothermal power is a climate moon shot beneath our feet
All these failures help progress the industry. Lessons learned are a gift
qwerty_clicks··on Geothermal power is a climate moon shot beneath our feet
I work for a O&G super major. You’d think that one of these groups would be more interested right? It’s all about money, if one can’t make huge profits (especially with huge gov subsidies) then they will continue to ignore the prospect. Megacorps aren’t trying to save the world they are trying to get mega rich.
qwerty_clicks··on Pollution from Big Tech's data centre boom costs US public health $5.4bn
Clean air is default. You can’t make ‘more clean’ air to offset dirty air. You can just hide real and compound health impacts with the fact that someone else exercises more in clean air and lives better.
qwerty_clicks··on AI, but at What Cost? Breakdown of AI's Carbon Footprint
This article only discusses image generation, a small subset of AI use cases. As users, governments, corporations, and background processes grow to consume AI all day the water and power issues will grow the same. Whether AI or JavaScript, action is needed ahead of shareholder value.
qwerty_clicks··on AI, but at What Cost? Breakdown of AI's Carbon Footprint
Water needed for the power generation and onsite cooling seems to be the higher risk and impact. Aquifer depletion has real and permanent impacts to the community.
qwerty_clicks··on It's not a crime if we do it with an app
While some of the article’s leading point in apps doesn’t clearly connected to collusion to raise egg prices, it’s all valid. Tearing it all down is sore of you.
