Interesting scrolling through this person's twitter which is uniformly pro insurer. Can't imagine that's a particularly popular position right now, which begs the question; why?
My wife (MD) tells me that vaccine refers to anything that induces an immune response against a pathogen or disease. In this case the vaccine causes anti-EGFR antibody production
Seems like some of the comments need to learn that a big hypertrophic heart is much worse for you than a normal sized heart. Folks: GLP-1s have demonstrated benefit from heart failure, and this heart muscle change is probably mechanistic in that.
This is orthogonal to your GP point which was about salary. There are a lot of issues with the teaching pipeline AFAIUI so it is difficult to comment on n=1 examples.
The problem is not limited supply but rather the ability to train sufficient supply in a reasonable timeframe which necessitates attending pay cuts (because they can't do as much work) and creation of funded structured training programs with good teachers and case mix. Source: my wife is a doctor
Hard not to be cynical about this paper when the author suggests there are medications for "gut leakiness". Seems like they tested a bunch of non specific proteins and p hacked to get a few results for publishing. "Chronic inflammation" is not the kind of concrete condition doctors can really sink their teeth into.
Lot of negativity in the comments here. The disease is likely to kill you without treatment and the "cancer" is not solid organ cancer like most people are used to thinking of but mostly (5 out of 7 cases) myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) which is different and curable in some cases, as this paper demonstrates. If it were me, I'd take my chances.
It's one of those HN-adjacent sites that has been posted here since inception, similar to bingo card creator, oxide, starfighters, etc. I'm not opposed to it.
Been a fan of sourcegraph since 2016 or so, it's been exciting to watch the pivots along the way. That being said, the loss of transparency here is pretty sad, speaking as a large FOSS repo owner. What were the main factors apart from risk that went into the decision?
Great result. Just had a play around with the demo models and they preserve structure really nicely; although the textures are still not great. It's kind of a voxelized version of the input image
HIV treatments prevent replication of cells infected by HIV such that the number of immune cells infected by HIV can be undetectable. The problem is there are latent reservoirs of HIV DNA / cells that may reactivate later or hide in areas of the body without immune protection (this is a lot easier for immune system cells with privileged access!). See https://www.nature.com/articles/nrmicro.2015.5 for an older but good discussion on this.
These types of services are incentivised to over test and you may find many spurious results when you over test. Look up the term "incidentaloma". If you have to get a real doctor to interpret and re order these tests, you are contributing to the burden of the system rather than a "pre test". The specific example you mention is apples and oranges, since the FIT test is a specific validated screening test provided by government rather than a profit driven private lab. There is evidence it's not even that helpful as a screening test.
It was interesting to hear the comments from paid influencers for the product. As I know somebody who had a life threatening complication from ozempic, it's hard for me to feel sympathy for them. This may the rare occasion where I support TikTok.
Looks like he focused on promptbase when that became successful. There was a daily blog for promptbase at some point that had some promising revenue numbers.
Good article, I wondered about the details of card rewards schemes as a kind of meta commentary on the financial system. Interesting to see that patio11 has left stripe now to work (seemingly) on this newsletter full time. I do miss the days when the articles were technical; there’s a deep software and writing skillset that we’ve lost to the financial system which isn’t nearly as fun.
Can anyone confirm if the legal advice here https://docs.heyform.net/license is correct? Seems slightly different to my own interpretation of the spirit of GPL.
I soured on him a bit more when I watched some of his stream yesterday and he was ranting about diversity being a root of evil in Silicon Valley. Struck me that he hasn’t matured much since he was slinging mud at Sony and Apple.
