except,in Notion, you don't need 3rd party plugins, or "create your own" templates, you already have it out of the box, don't get me wrong tho, I don't love Notion, is very slow. The biggest problem I see with obsidian is, requires a lot of configuration, like you mentioned. I just want something that works.
Obsidian is not a replacement for Notion tho, no databases, a lot of custom configuration, no nice templates, etc... I can't take how slow Notion is, and I'm looking for a self-hosted replacement, but Obsidian is just not there yet, except for the note taking part, that I dont care about.
privacy in what sense? the bank owns your data already, if you don't store any user data in the cloud, then is private by design, right? I was looking for something like this, but I do need auto import my transaction data, across all banks and brokers, etc. Offline first and only, ala Personal Capital, but secure and safe. Paying 20 bucks a month for the privilege of manual data entry is a bit much. There is a bunch of open source alternatives(GNU Cash, etc...), that let you manually enter your data. That said, this is my particular use case. I do wish you the best, and the app does look pretty.
The are (were) the only bank I know of in the US, that does not allow non US citizens to open an account. Even if you had a green card , a SSN , you weren’t able to open an account. I’m happy they are gone.
This argument have been attempted already, you can also take Juicero, "can you just squeeze the bad yourself?" , and was indeed a dumb idea. This "crazy idea" is not removing any friction to regular people, regular people browse youtube, or instagram, tik tok, etc... this is targeted to techies, look at the homepage, people who are pointing out the "crazy new idea" , is neither crazy, new, or good at all, are the target of this product. Just because some successful companies had bad feedback in the beginning, doesn't imply "you missed it" or their product will become the next thing. The HN crowd of today is also not the same as the crowd back then(dropbox founder comment fiesta...).
yeah, good point. The saddest part is, I'm confident that people will buy into that "crazy idea" and before you know it, they have a 4B valuation. VCs always win, even when they loose.
This is so common in SV, you are just being arrogant and salty in general, because people are showing how dumb, privacy unfriendly, and dangerous this product is, it has nothing to do with envy. Using Dropbox as an example is even worst, thats like saying "X celebrity is famous and smoke weed, then if I smoke weed, I will be famous". PG is clearly biased and he is just trying to get a return on his investment, thats all, and if he needs to hype this product to make money he will. People are not dummies, if the product is meant for the general public and not the HN crowd, then start a Google Ads campaign, or get in the Tonight Show or something.
He is an investor on this “crazy new idea” , I don’t believe him, he is just hustling his audience and trying to create hype about a product that is neither new nor competitive. People like Guido van Rossum , James Gosling , Bjarne Stroustrup , just to mention a few, have contributed way more to the field and have earned the respect of millions , you don’t see them hyping crappy startups for a few bucks (billions* ) . I do respect the founders , and understand the have worked hard on this project , I just don’t think that just working hard on something makes it good , or whatever Paul Graham says is something I should accept as truth.
We will be using masks until either someone breaks the ice and people just get over it or most states rollback the mask mandate. Could be months or years.
WSL works well, until it doesn't. For a non C# (or msft ecosystem) dev, Windows offers very little advantage for development. Every tool that is used mostly by Unix loving folks requires workarounds(when possible) to make it work on Windows. Terminal clients are subpar at best, the only selling point I see on Windows is the ability to play games. Without mentioning the privacy issues on Windows. Most mainstream Linux distros are rock solid stable. You can use out of the box Ubuntu as your daily driver with no configuration, besides installing the software you like. I'm not familiar with Gentoo, but yeah, if you install an arcane distro you could have issues with drivers, etc... MacOs is pretty solid too.
Yeah , if the Taiwanese government don’t want their engineers to go to China then they should be payed more. Or we could , here in the US start a program to attract talent from Taiwan , give them a green card or something.
Nah, people say they will quit , but they wont, there are people who do want to go back to the office, and will die to work at Google, also very competent (not as much as people here that love working from home, I'm sure). Also most tech companies will go back, MSFT, Amazon, ... You can go to FB tho, but then you will be working for FB, if you care only about the money, then is fine I guess, at least personally is not a place I would love to be in.
I thought the same, “ Mr X have been working on this for 2 years” or “ our team reversed engineered x feature of Mac OS “ means nothing nothing without real data.
I was going to jump in the "who is going to pay for this bandwagon" but, knowing silicon valley, some _js_framework_ cult leader will give them a shout out, then their herd will start retweeting , someone at a VC will notice, drop a couple of millions, and before you notice they have a 1B valuation. I certainly wish them the best.
Yes, this attacks are just the result of sanctions against those countries, we, over here in the US shouldn't be policing the world, if those countries want freedom they should rise up on their own, is hard, but have had happened in the past.
> When you use YouTube you accept the terms and conditions (at least the parts that apply in your jurisdiction) which (probably) should state that you are not allowed to circumvent ads. If you do so you are in violation. Not sure what the consequences of that are though.
I don't think so. Can you provide a link to the section of the ToS that says that?
