qq66··on EU Fines Google $1.02B for Favoring Its Own Services
The EU has found a clever way to charge US tech companies for market access without triggering a WTO violation.
qq66··on Are AI labs pelicanmaxxing?
I do have a private benchmark I use for that. I have a repository with an in-progress codebase and a very large planning document, I tell the new models to simply finish everything in the planning document, and I never push those changes. All of the recent models have essentially gotten it perfect which means that the models are all equivalently good for my level of needs.
qq66··on Are AI labs pelicanmaxxing?
But that's a genuine worthwhile capability. It's like benchmarkmaxxing on a weightlifting competition by getting really strong.
qq66··on LG to ban residential proxies from smart TV apps
> and another device would have similar risks

Do you think an Apple TV and a Walmart special TV have same risks? I don't. I give the Apple device my network credentials and the TV never sees them.

qq66··on LG to ban residential proxies from smart TV apps
If you don't ever give your network credentials to the Smart TV you've closed off 99% of the attack surface.
qq66··on Judge approves $1.5B Anthropic settlement for pirated books used to train Claude
They bought, scannned, trained from, and destroyed millions of paper books, which was ruled legal. This lawsuit was for training from LibGen.
qq66··on Kimi K3: Open Frontier Intelligence
have you tried quiver.ai
qq66··on .self: A new top-level domain designed to support self-hosting
The much simpler way to avoid squatting is to make .com domains cost $200 a year. This will instantly end the vast majority of domain squatting on the .com TLD and if people can easily get the .com they need for their business then the other TLDs are not going to have much squatting activity.
qq66··on .garden TLD's change to a bad neighborhood
I don't think that anyone claims that there aren't any legitimate sites on .garden, but the risk of using an abuse-prone TLD is that Bayesians are going to assign you an increased prior risk of abuse. Honestly the TLD is making more money from the abusers than from Plantura so they're not going to tighten up their ship, Plantura should probably move to a different TLD.
qq66··on SpaceX sheds $400B in market value as debut rally hits reverse
One theory is that Elon Musk ends up being able to build AI datacenters faster and more cost effectively than anyone else, which seems plausible given the success of Tesla Gigafactories.
qq66··on A backdoor in a LinkedIn job offer
Western governments should treat large-scale scammers and the countries that protect them as an act of war.
qq66··on US Air Force B-52 bomber crashes after takeoff, Edwards Air Force Base says
They stopped making the B-52 64 years ago. The US military is depending on planes that are simply too old and need to be refreshed.
qq66··on Meta enables ADB on deprecated Portal devices [video]
Your product helped our kids stay connected to their grandparents and cousins during the pandemic. One of the greatest things we've ever owned.
qq66··on Meta enables ADB on deprecated Portal devices [video]
Facebook Portal was the best piece of consumer electronics I've ever owned. It was a huge boon to our family and the grandparents to stay connected through the pandemic. Grateful that it existed and hope that something as good can someday exist again.
qq66··on Stop Killing Games
I don't see the logic in why art would be treated differently than code, and there is a lot in modern games that are not clearly one or the other (hitboxes? animations? lighting effects?)
qq66··on I made a million dollar product from my dorm room (2025)
The question I have is, what were you exposed to and doing at ages 5, 10, and 15 that made you capable of developing a PCB in your freshman year of college?
qq66··on News about Raspberry Pi 6 and Microcontroller Development
The thing I've always wanted in a Raspberry Pi is an SBC and microcontroller on one board.
qq66··on I’ve joined Anthropic
If you don't actually have the desire to build, lead, and manage a large organization, this is a terrible idea for technical geniuses. A guy like him will instantly raise $1 billion which means hiring dozens of people, which means tons of interviews, management, performance review, planning, board meetings, etc etc.

It's good that there are avenues today for people to make tens or hundreds of $m in salaried positions at companies so that they don't have to do that stuff to get paid their value if they don't genuinely want to.

qq66··on A recent experience with ChatGPT 5.5 Pro
Paste what you want me to ask 5.5 Pro and I'll paste you the response.
qq66··on Empty Screenings – Finds AMC movie screenings with few or no tickets sold
Well it's very different for flights, they need the plane at the destination so they have to fly it. With movies it's probably just simpler to start the movie than to try to manage the logistics of not starting it, just to save 2 hours on the projection bulb.
qq66··on United Wizards of the Coast
You cannot simply transfer Magic the Gathering to overseas workers and expect any kind of usable result. It will be from an entirely different cultural framework.
qq66··on Pgbackrest is no longer being maintained
There are business models that work for the extraordinarily popular open source projects (Linux, SQLite, etc.) that don't work for the "well-used piece of infrastructure" projects, even though that category is very important in aggregate
qq66··on I'm done making desktop applications (2009)
Nothing in this article is wrong, but worth noting that pre-AI, the companies that most significantly transformed the way we use our computers (Slack, Spotify, VS Code, etc.) did ship desktop apps.
qq66··on Tesla Cybertruck sales inflated: SpaceX bought 1,279 units
It makes no sense? When the companies have the same CEO?
qq66··on Measuring Claude 4.7's tokenizer costs
This is the backdoor way of raising prices... just inflate the token pricing. It's like ice cream companies shrinking the box instead of raising the price
qq66··on Everything we like is a psyop?
Being a good band isn't nearly enough to be a famous band.
qq66··on Tell HN: Fiverr left customer files public and searchable
How does someone's dating site password end up in Fiverr?
qq66··on Show HN: Ghost Pepper – Local hold-to-talk speech-to-text for macOS
I'm speaking for >1 minute and including bulleted lists, etc. WisprFlow gets all of the bulleted lists formatted correctly, and I'm not saying things like "Bullet 1" -- just speaking as I'd speak to a person.
qq66··on Show HN: Brutalist Concrete Laptop Stand (2024)
I don't like it but I like that you did it.
qq66··on Adobe modifies hosts file to detect whether Creative Cloud is installed
This is why I love iOS in many ways: it's very difficult for an app to have "action at a distance" inside your OS. If you force-quit the app it's pretty much like it never existed.
