qprofyeh··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
The match is whoever wants to start on the journey with the user, at that moment, and the algorithm is there to give the potential couple a better starting point. I guess at any rate that’s better than leaving it to hope and chance.
qprofyeh··on Citrix NetScaler Remote Code Execution
Local hospitals and government agencies have turned off their servers until further review.

This needs to be patched asap.

qprofyeh··on Platform-independent SIMD in Go
This feature opens many doors for optimizing low-level performance in Go projects, that are already running multicore. IIRC there aren’t a lot of languages with built-in std lib support for SIMD and variants. Love the way Go is trying new stuff lately.
qprofyeh··on GPT-6 Astra Solves a WWI German Radio Cipher
Here we go again, framing the tool as an autonomous agent, disregarding any "human in the loop" and their inquiries, direction, and ground knowledge.

Can we agree that future titles should read "[LLM] helped solve X" ?

qprofyeh··on Canto: A speech model built for the real world
Wonder if they are aware of Cantonese, the language that is often abbreviated as Canto.
qprofyeh··on The End of Programming
Skeptical whether author has financial gain from echoing and underwriting this already prominent statement, spread by BigAI. Not that I disagree with what’s written, I do see irreversible changes in our industry, but there’s the flip side that he doesn’t seem interested to write about. Makes the whole article read like a sponsored Anthropic ad.
qprofyeh··on The AI Situation in Software Development
With previous engineering trends like blockchains and microservices, you could choose not to jump on the bandwagon. However the coding agents trend is different and is changing the very fabric (sry for Claudeism) of software engineering, for better or worse. I do know we will never go back to mainly programming through code again, that’s for sure.
qprofyeh··on Deutsche Bank becomes first foreign yuan clearing bank in Europe
I wonder if it has anything to do with the currency apparently being backed by an immense reserve of oil (proven to the world by this year's geopolitical events), then coal, and then a massive amount of renewable solar, hydro, wind kWh's and infrastructure to deliver it to homes and shops.

More and more it feels like a nation's kWh throughput is the new metric to track its global influence in manufacturing, industry, and financial services. In other words electric power now equates to global power.

qprofyeh··on EU Regulators Barred from Disclosing Tesla FSD Approval Research

qprofyeh··on Don't credit the LLM
On a lighter note: it’s perfectly fine to take full credit for caring about a problem.
qprofyeh··on Don't credit the LLM
So many comments in here are missing the point.

By not crediting and personifying the LLM, one (re)takes full human responsibility over the produced works and stated claims. As a result one won’t become an “agent” for the LLM.

The title could have been Don’t blame the LLM.

When we first started using LLMs professionally it was fine to hide behind disclaimers. Now with widespread adoption it’s time to step out of the LLM’s shadow and take credit/blame again.

qprofyeh··on Amazon Data Centers Hit in Iran Strikes, Satellite Images Show
When will this war be over?
qprofyeh··on EU Open Sources Ten-Year Network Development Planning Tools
Thanks, definitely positive they’re moving towards open and freely accessible modeling tools. I can see the benefits for students and budget-constrained institutions.
qprofyeh··on EU Open Sources Ten-Year Network Development Planning Tools
Thanks!
qprofyeh··on EU Open Sources Ten-Year Network Development Planning Tools
It’s an honest question, perhaps not worded friendly enough. Forgive my English.

Let’s zoom in on your reply, the people who are interested and look at it and use it. What will they be able to do with it?

qprofyeh··on EU Open Sources Ten-Year Network Development Planning Tools
Educate me, what’s the point of (open-sourcing) this?
qprofyeh··on U.S. allows Anthropic to release Mythos AI to ‘trusted’ US organizations
No one seeing this as Musk and SpaceX leveraging government support to close the IPO doors on OpenAI and Anthropic?

I know it’s a bold statement but look at this timing and their valuations going south.

qprofyeh··on Bun ported to Rust in 6 days
Got it, thanks dang!
qprofyeh··on Ant Group Unveils Ling-2.6-Flash

qprofyeh··on Signals, the push-pull based algorithm
Kudos! Minor detail: the code could use a border or bg color different than the text, so that they’re more distinct.
qprofyeh··on Ensu – Ente’s Local LLM app
For the ones who tried this out but want to uninstall and remove the downloaded model, because it's an iPad app it's located here: /Users/username/Library/Containers/Ensu

qprofyeh··on GLM-5: Targeting complex systems engineering and long-horizon agentic tasks
There are startups in this space getting funded as we speak: https://olix.com/blog/compute-manifesto
qprofyeh··on Handy – Free open source speech-to-text app
As a Mac user, am I missing something? macOS has Dictation built-in, when you short press F5 it should start transcribing your spoken words into text in real time. It even does non-English languages.
qprofyeh··on High air pollution could diminish exercise benefits by half – study
If you have ever been to a city that has banned fossil fuels then you can absolutely tell the difference, to most of the overpopulated European cities that I have visited. It’s astonishing how peaceful and comfortable it is to run or even stroll when every breath is just 100% refreshing; you feel 10 pounds lighter. Meanwhile the blackened filter of our home HVAC needs replacement again… and allergies.
qprofyeh··on I know we're in an AI bubble because nobody wants me
While I agree there’s a lack of attention for the impact of software engineers on near-term industry growth — rather the opposite with layoffs and agentic automation (attempts) et cetera; the mentioned Scott Gray is working at OpenAI now, so the human capital angle is I guess just flying under the mainstream radar.

OTOH garage-startup acquisitions are acquihires.

qprofyeh··on Ditch your mutex, you deserve better
@OP perhaps there’s a comparison bug in withdraw(): if (a.balance <= amount)
qprofyeh··on Meta's Vision for Superintelligence
Reads as RIP Metaverse to me.

Any time a CEO publishes such empty, wordy essays, it's probably earnings reporting time. I can't shake the feeling it's a public subreply at one of or a cluster of doubting investors, who started to doubt the CEOs vision for the company, or find the lack of one on a certain topic concerning.

qprofyeh··on The Useless UseCallback
Hooks turn out to be a leaky and contagious abstraction.
qprofyeh··on “Dynamic Programming” is not referring to “computer programming”
Thanks for sharing. I always viewed DP as finding partials to cache. Something not done a lot in day to day algos. Did not appreciate the name as being related to execution order optimization.
