qorrect··on Open Source Firebase Alternative with GraphQL
I _just_ started using Firebase and I'm already worried about cost. Is this a drop in replacement for it ? All my code will work against nhost , just change the config files ? Or what does the transition look like at the moment ?

Very excited for this!

qorrect··on Ask HN: Advice that changed your life?
> So words might not hurt, but they offer more and more reasons to disengage, not just from terrible people, but from otherwise "normal, friendly, would-never-commit-a-crime people"

Oof that hit home.

Yeah look at the hit QQQ took on those two drops.

What did you just say to me ? /s

qorrect··on Ask HN: How to deal with after lunch fatigue?
Wait, do most people not get tired after lunch ? I've had trouble staying awake after lunch since grade school.
qorrect··on Ask HN: Why don't I see gold at the end of the remote working rainbow?
> Do you get breaks to play pingpong and catered food at your offices?

Oh yeah, it was great ( billiards, pinball, foosball, restaurant catered lunches, beer fridays ). It never lasts, usually a company gets purchased and all those niceties are the first to go. This has happened to me three times.

It made for a fun workplace, those were definitely my favorite jobs.

Your crazy if you think the government isn't going to just piss that money away. Its already at ~$.50 a gallon with federal and state taxes. And the oil companies will just stop producing to lower supply and inflate the price. More taxes are going to hurt the individual , companies have enough money to get around it. No, we need a revolution.
qorrect··on Ask HN: How to find what I am really good at?
> Will I have the grit and the passion to pursue one topic for the next 5-7 years.

I will say, I was able to get my company off the ground and white labeled it for a much larger company. I ended up hating the product in the end, 10 years later - because I was sole founder and every single thing I had to do myself.

I think you will be able to stick with it ( especially when there is no other choice ! ) , but you might end up hating it.

qorrect··on Why Men Are Hard to Help
> Like saying the bible or the koran is "just words" rather than the foundation of societies and the cause of wars.

It _is_ just a collection of words though, it's people that take it very seriously and get offended that start the wars. Had they learned this credo when they were young, they might not have escalated it to war. Anyone can just shout words out, you going to get offended at everyone ?

qorrect··on Why Men Are Hard to Help
> The entire "feminism" project is mostly just social engineering for elite men to castrate their competition and consolidate power under the guise of equality.

How so ?

qorrect··on Why Men Are Hard to Help
> I bounced off a tech career track because of all the sexism and, for lack of a better term, "bro shit" in the classes.

It sounds like you let a group of 'bros' decide your career track. The world is full of shitty people both men and women, you can't let their behavior drive yours.

Also have experienced it first hand. Show real emotion and they immediately start to distance themselves, and stop talking, and physically move away from you.
qorrect··on Ask HN: Does Hacker News still do in person meet ups?
I like this idea alot, maybe something like this:

User opens app, makes a possible meetup that s/he is into , it then shows up on the map as just the title of the Group, along with maybe an interest count of initially 0.

If others click on it enough, the original users gets notified that this 'has momentum' and whether or not they want to schedule an actual get together. If they do, all other people are notified of the event.

like meetup.com, but the emphasis is on the location.

Is that what you were thinking ?

qorrect··on Tell HN: Somebody implemented something I wrote a blog about
On that note though, is there a way to protect your story if you want to pitch it to a publisher, or anywhere else ? Like a registry for story ideas ?
qorrect··on Ask HN: Does Hacker News still do in person meet ups?
Oh that wasn't meant to be rude, I liked the idea and wanted him to keep talking about it.
qorrect··on Ask HN: How do you switch between programming languages?
Live templates ( keyboard expansions ) , so that ';' in python expands to '' etc.
qorrect··on Ask HN: How does your company handle late running projects?
It doesn't really matter if it's illegal, they will retaliate. Have you done the thing you're advising this stranger to do ?

qorrect··on Ask HN: How did you start higher education after 40?
I hear a lot of non-engineers say this. Talking about formal logic, and how philosophy and math were once the same discipline, how math proofs are akin to philosophical arguments etc.

I don't think this crowd would get much out of it.

qorrect··on Ask HN: When did people stop being told not to eat or drink around computers?
Eh I still do this, "no drinks in the computer room". Told that to my friend the other day and he thought I was joking.
qorrect··on Ask HN: Contractors, what is your hourly rate?
