qompiler··on Flat design is great for mediocre designers like me
Yet picking the right colors still seems to be a big challenge for some people. I have seen application use combination of highly saturated red, brown and green.
qompiler··on Microsoft’s Teeny-Tiny Windows 8 Product Key Is Beyond Unreadable
I have a Windows 7 license sticker on my Dell PC case, I never touched it with my hands and it's already fading. Can I suspect this is being done on purpose? Or am I just being cynical.
qompiler··on GNOME co-founder deemed not notable enough to have a Wikipedia article
Not white enough like Matthias Ettrich and Miguel de Icaza.
qompiler··on LinkedIn: The Creepiest Social Network
Not a bad thing for me no.. this time!

I don't think anyone is giving explicit permission to let the world know they have been snooping around other people's profiles. Although this information is not directly published it leaks through their "features".

qompiler··on LinkedIn: The Creepiest Social Network
LinkedIn leaks privacy information through their "also viewed" section.

Applied to a new job and started working there, after a few months I decided to look up my managers LinkedIn profile, only to notice that on his page the "also viewed" section showed employees from my older company and family. So yeah, so now I know he was trying to figure out more about me through LinkedIn.

qompiler··on Microsoft prepares U-turn on Windows 8
Because MSFT still makes enough profit every quarter.
qompiler··on Microsoft prepares U-turn on Windows 8
I suspect this is just marketing for the upcoming Windows 8.1 (Blue). Which is more of a L-turn than a U-turn.
qompiler··on In the Future, When Robots do All Our Work, What of Capitalism?
Don't kid yourself, we don't even have robots that make USB cables. That stuff is still made by hand in China.
qompiler··on Was Joel wrong?
College students use Dropbox as a means of keeping backups, as an online thumb drive and sharing work with each other.

There was even a "college space race" to get more storage a while back, https://www.dropbox.com/spacerace

qompiler··on Ask HN: Motivation in open source
Will the results be shared?
qompiler··on Was Joel wrong?
Just because someone is a professional online ranter it doesn't mean they are always right.
qompiler··on Web Development: How to?
PHP might not be a good language to use, but it will learn you a about the "low" level stuff. Web frameworks tend to hide many details for you, which might be a disadvantage when you are learning.
qompiler··on New SARS-like virus in Saudi Arabia
The bird flu/SARS is also back in China

qompiler··on Ask HN: Are you planning on getting Google Glass?
Maybe ill get one when we developers are allowed to sell apps for it.
qompiler··on LOL isn't funny anymore
The Dutch word "lol" made a round trip back to its original meaning. Whoever told the world "lol" stands for "laughing out loud" lied through their teeth.
qompiler··on Path texts my entire phonebook at 6 AM
That's why its free.
qompiler··on How To Prototype In Xcode Using Storyboard
RAD tools always serve a limited goal - which causes the inflexibility. When your goal changes you will be stuck with this tool and RAD turns into SAD.
qompiler··on The McDonald's Theory of Bad Ideas
about once a year is already pushing it
qompiler··on The //* /*/ //*/ comment toggle trick
I'm going slightly off-topic here, but I have to rant a bit on code reviews.

For the love of god, please, they are meant for checking each others code for mistakes and not for miniscule details like this. I have seen it time and time again in various companies where code review is used as some sort of tool to dictate style and preferences to each other. Wasting valuable development time and creating a unhealthy tension between developers.

qompiler··on The //* /*/ //*/ comment toggle trick
In Eclipse you can hit CTRL+/ to comment and uncomment a block of code you have selected.
qompiler··on Four companies will produce the microchips on which the global economy depends
There are also tons of companies around the world that perform various sub processes in the microchip manufacturing industry. It's just these couple companies are big enough to do almost everything on their own. But Intel and AMD still rely on external suppliers for lithography machines for example.
qompiler··on In India, Cows Are Sacred, Women Are Dispensable
Do they? The cows are very skinny and malnutritioned, letting cows wander around through highly populated streets, eating trash and drinking sewer water is not what I imagine a cow enjoys doing.

qompiler··on 60W equivalent LED bulb uses 9.5W and costs $13
Until your LED bulb starts making a strange noise and you discover these things actually have a cooling fan inside of them. This thing WILL fail if kept running for a long time.

qompiler··on Open offices create a 66% drop in productivity
I thought this was about Open Office and Libre Office software and promptly agreed.
qompiler··on Mandatory software engineering license?
I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry :/
qompiler··on Bad code is the first step towards good code
Sometimes when I look at my old code I think "Wow, I didn't know I was that good!". No joke and I'm not sure what it means.

qompiler··on Why big IT projects always go wrong
The only winning move is not to play. ;-)
qompiler··on The rise and fall of AMD: How an underdog stuck it to Intel
Exactly! It's like Intel kept AMD just barely alive the whole time, now that ARM is taken over much of the CPU market it might not be necessary anymore and Intel can just mercilessly end AMD as a CPU company. Not by technology but with capital.
