qihqi··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
Depending on the which gender does the initiation; the result is either male optimal (males get the best he can get, females gets the worst among those she would tolerate) or female optimal. I wonder which version this one is.

qihqi··on What color is your function? (2015)
Colored functions are good. It reflects the language design on signaling what is important, and what are the properties it want the writer to pay attention. Other examples of colored functions:

* Haskell: pure function and non-pure (IO monads) looks different. * Rust: unsafe functions (or block) requires special markers.

qihqi··on Logical implication is a comparison operator
prepositions p(a) -> q(a) can be thought as super set relationships. Let P = {a | p(a) holds} and Q = {a | q(a) holds) then p(a) -> q(a) and the statement P is subset of Q is the same.

This artificial womb thing it talked about might be the solution to truly eliminate gender inequality. Oh Brave New World!
qihqi··on My Notebook System
One issue I found with computer based setup when working is that... there are 2 of them.

When I was in college I had folders of notes and it's read and updated regularly. Once I got issued a work laptop; the personal one sometimes don't get turned on in days... and rapidly became outdated.

qihqi··on Facebook employees are now more willing to leave, tech recruiters say
Since no one mentioned so far: The LOD law suit made FB unable to get any approved green card app since last few months of Trump. This is the top reason why Indians & Chinese are not taking FB roles. It has been recently resolved. If hiring gets better for them I'd attribute it to green cards than the rename.

This one is tricky considering that kNN is also a ML system.

* Water is overrated. In my experience, never said by the thirsty in middle of desert.

However, unlike water or most things, money seems to be the few things that people who have enough still want more.

qihqi··on Female Founder Secrets: Men Clamming Up
I used to work for a company that has the standard "Meet Expectations" / "Exceeds Expectations" performance review every 6 month. Some European coworker felt the need to make a ppt titled 'euro-perf' to teach Europeans how to write performance feedback. Apparently words like "Good", "OK", "decent" etc meant slightly below median, and words like "Amazing" meant slightly above median for Americans. An European coworker also told me that he used to think a solid track record of Meet Expectations is very good and worthy of a promotion.

qihqi··on The China tea trade was a paradox of global capitalism
A little context on silver: silver is the defacto main currency in China at the time (for at least 1500 years). So for the Chinese perspective, they are really selling tea for "money".

hahaha literally you have to walk down a huge hill in Pike St to go to the Market.
qihqi··on Shall We Play a Market Timing Game? (2018)
You can beat falling markets by not buying anything.

I don't get why is beating the market a goal, isn't making money the goal? I am much happier making 20% while market is up 30%, than losing 5% when the market loses 20%.

Shopify did the same. Supposedly to help employees to buy stuff they need for working from home. It's really a pair of decent monitors + a good usb hub.
