Haven't released properly yet - not sure if it's stable but oh well.
I don't like using my personal email to sign up for things. But there are definitely things that I do want to sign up for - newsletters, try out some services.
I know there are temporary email services, but I actually want to use these services. Of course there is Apple email that forwards to your real email.
But, I also don't want to flood my inbox.
Anyway, I wanted to receive these transactional emails in my personal Slack.
So, that's what Fro is for (https://fro.app)
- Sign up - get an email address - link to your Slack channel
And you can now catch up on those newsletters via Slack.
Zoho Mail provides another option - $1.95 per month I think for my use where I am (AU) and has all the features I need for my small indie business.
One other option I tried was to actually run mail myself with Linode VPS - https://mailinabox.email/
I know it sounds a little scary at the start running your own thing, but so far it's been working out great - zero issues so far. I may turn off Zoho one day and go fully into self-hosted option.
It's yahoo pipes clone - so you can mix and filter RSS feeds that you want.
It's the good ole Yahoo Pipes clone! Would love for those who want to mix RSS feeds to try it out!
If you remember, Yahoo Pipies allowed devs & others quickly build something with RSS feeds. I've recently rebuilt and launched my own Yahoo Pipes clone
Along the way of building this tool, I came across a plenty of major websites that do not provide RSS feeds and indie devs who maintain niche tools to provide these feeds.
Then again, RSS are still plentiful!
And using the tool, I've been filtering, changing and tweaking various RSS feeds along the way.
I absolutely love RSS and absolutely loved Yahoo Pipes. For me, that got me into mashing up stuff on the web.
For devs, RSS feeds also provide a very easy way to source data. No need to get API keys and tokens, it gives you real life dataset immediately and easily. And from there, you can create tools.
In the end, after all that journey, I settled into Laravel Backend and Vue3. Every app I create now is just a copy-and-paste of what I've done before. The tech stack disappears into the background and I try to actually build the features that I want to build.
I'm definitely old because I see this great work called "one" and I look at the video and I get immediatey turned off by so many "new things". It's me - definitely me. It's maybe for a different generation of devs.
Here's a video site I created using this tool - a startup pitch video site
I know it would be impossible but I wish we go back to the days when we didn't have Slack (or tools alike). Our Slack is a cesspool of people complaining, talking behind other people's backs, echo chamber of negativity etc.
That probably speaks more to the overall culture of the company, but Slack certainly doesn't help. You can also say "tool is not the problem, people are" - sure, we can always explain things away, but Slack certainly plays a role here.
[shameless plug]
I created a personalized newsletter for Arxiv (which I plan to expand to others) so you can receive the latest research papers on the topics. You can also filter by some keywords too (e.g. only give me LLM or RAG related papers).
Let you import and read PDF directly, annotate, comment and share with people.
