pyreal··on Ask HN: Help I owe over 100k in taxes after signing up for Stripe Atlas
I don't understand how you could owe taxes on a company that didn't have revenue. Can you explain how you came to owe 100k? Is it some sort of penalty for not remitting forms?

pyreal··on Eating reindeer meat
Here in Eastern Canada, we call them caribou and they are regularly hunted as food. Though, moose is by far the most popular game meat. Almost everyone gets a moose hunting license in the (mostly) rural areas.
pyreal··on People Who Speed-Listen to Podcasts
Discovering the YouTube speed options setting rocked my world. I found it difficult to watch many videos - especially instructional - because the speakers were just such slow talkers. I come from the Eastern Canadian province of Newfoundland where many speak our own unique fast and abbreviated English dialect - especially in tiny rural areas like where I live. Listening to "mainland" North Americans speaking English is painfully slow. Now I can set them to 1.25-1.5X and be close to the speed that I'm used to in conversation.

pyreal··on Why I left Mac for Windows: Apple has given up
I switched to Mac at about the same time as you. I can't see myself ever going back to Windows but if Adobe ever ports their application suite to Linux, I'd switch immediately.
pyreal··on Amazon Web Services in Plain English (2015)
I just discovered a bunch of interesting stuff that I had no idea AWS provided thanks to the cryptic names. Most notable is Elastic Beanstalk - had no idea that was a PaaS!
pyreal··on Windows file system compression had to be dumbed down
Interesting timing. I just used Windows' built in compression to free up 25 GB on a customer's full C: drive. First time I've used the feature in years. I noted that it didn't seem to be very good compression level.
