I really enjoyed reading Chris's deep dives on Ruby internals.

This one to be specific.

Rest in peace.

pvsukale3··on The Vietnam government has banned rooted phones from using any banking app
India doesn’t have a single “govt ban rooted phones from banking apps” rule, but RBI’s digital payment security controls explicitly allow banks to block mobile apps on rooted/jailbroken devices, and many do. Combine that with device+SIM binding requirements and platform attestation (e.g., Play Integrity), and the practical result is often “no banking/UPI on rooted phones.”

How would one go about compiling Ruby to make a cross platform binary?

I have seen the Ruby build process and it also links to libraries like OpenSSL.

pvsukale3··on Surviving Burnout (2015)
I am in my mid 20s. I have been burned out in the past. One thing I want to reiterate on is you should be able to afford a sabbatical when it is desperately needed. A few months at least without all of your finances going down.

If this is not the case with you, it is best in interest to take out some money and put towards that. That sabbatical gives you some breathing space for you in life. It is worth saving some money and avoiding some luxury expenses.

pvsukale3··on Building GitHub with Ruby on Rails
It is so nice to have the latest releases of both Ruby and Rails run in production as soon as they are released. Huge for indie developers and small teams that use Rails. Kudos to Shopify too, who are working on improving Ruby tooling a lot recently. Exciting time to be a Rails dev.
pvsukale3··on Entrepreneurs who regret starting businesses
I agree, a lot of things you do in life are based on how many times can you absorb the failure and recover from it. This ability is just not financial, it also has physical, mental health, relationships aspect to it.

You could get be the "lucky" person either tomorrow or 10 years from now, question is how long can you afford to continue.

This is kind of the reason I have switched to Mac. I used Ubuntu throughout my CSE degree and a year after. But system bricking at random upgrade, needing a fix was a no go for me at work. I understand some people do not face this issue.

But whenever I wanted to try out something new or install anything, some random stuff would go wrong and would need hours of searching and fixing. Happens much less often with MacOs.

Yes, there is a company called Dmart and they are doing really well. Recently one opened in my area and local shop owner mentioned that it is killing their business. People are flocking to Dmart for discounts.
pvsukale3··on India lifted 415M out of poverty in 15 years, says UN
I have personally seen this transition. Some folks who started from tier 2 cities got access to white collar jobs because of MNCs like TCS, Infosys. Now they have improved skillset through Internet courses and are now working on much higher pay at product companies.

MNCs are essentially doing what colleges fail to do in India. Teaching people how to code, talk to clients and bring them into formal employment.

I am a Rails developer based in Pune, India. I have been working with Rails for 4 years now. I have some open source Rails work too and many failed side projects. I am applying for the Senior Full Stack Developer roles.

My brief professional history:

2018 - Graduated with a CS degree in Engineering from Pune University

July 18 - March 21: Worked for a Rails consultancy, BigBinary.com, and worked with multiple international clients remotely and on-site. Mostly worked with Rails and React.

March 21 - present: Quit my job to go work full time on my side projects. All of them are built on Rails, Hotwire, and StimulusJS

- https://profile.work : Work profile builder and job application tracking - https://ossdatabase.com : Open source alternatives for popular software, this project itself is Open Source. (https://github.com/prithvi16/ossdatabase) and extensively uses Hotwire.

I have built and launched multiple products from ideation and design to building and marketing them. I have also worked in large and small teams. I like to take ownership of my work end to end and figure things out on my own.

pvsukale3··on Watching 'Spirited Away' again, and again
I was high when I watched Spirited Away for the first time. I liked it so much I almost cried sometimes. After that watching I watched this movie multiple times without getting bored. What a masterpiece.
pvsukale3··on The IT Crowd US Pilot (2007) [video]
Glad to see Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) here. That said Joel McHale stars in another show called Community. It was created by Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty). It is a highly underrated show. Has a lot of existential and meta commentary on show itself. Highly recommend if you are looking for a new sitcom.
pvsukale3··on Worldwide Rail Network Map
If you want to see a regularly updated map of Indian Railways you can find it here [1]. This map has a lot of contributions from users and has details about new lines, lines under upgradation, electrification status.

This website can also show a route particular train takes in India fairly accurately. For example here is route map of Vivek express, covering longest distance, 4,218.6 kilometres (2,621.3 mi) in single journey [2].
