punchingpeople··on Love seems like a high priority
This, been married for 6 years already, but didn't start loving my wife until around year 3, lots of lust before that. We talk a lot about it, we talk a lot about everything, our love keeps growing and lust doesn't play such an important role anymore.

I have never understood how some people can fall in love with just a few sexual encounters, have had my share of women falling in "love" with me... It was quite a scary thing, now I understand I need a long time to develop any feelings. But for the majority of my life, it made me wonder if there was something wrong with me.

As a Purepecha Mexican I find it very eye-opening the other way around. Very weird to see people consider our empires ancient, we are very aware we are the new kids on the block. As an aside, I have always found it interesting when people talk about the Mayans as some mythical lost thing, have had a few beers with them, good people, but not mythical by any stretch.
punchingpeople··on Ask HN: Have you ever regretted working on a product?
Worked on behavior manipulation via social networks back in the day. It was supposed to be used to introduce energy saving habits into people's minds. Got me very depressed a few years ago, but now I got over it, realized I was just a replaceable piece of a big puzzle and if not me, somebody else would have done it.
punchingpeople··on A note to our employees
This kind of mentality exasperates me to no end. I am a heavy drinker (never at work), and I hate it when people blame my behavior on my alcohol level. I always have to correct them, they are lucky I am drunk when bad things happen, I tend to be a very violent and horrible person when sober, for sure the outcome could be much worse. People should take responsibility for their behavior without blaming substances.
punchingpeople··on Google’s Anti-Pentagon Decision Will Kill More People
Back in the day, around 10 years ago, I was working a lot with clean energy. One of the big projects was modifying human behaviour through social networks, focusing on using targeted messaging and peer pressure via Twitter, when it was still kind of big. Send messages to a big enough network of organically influential people, and all of sudden you have a full city saving some MW per day; put on a sweater if you are cold, turn off the lights when not in use, drink more water if you are hot, close your blinds to keep your house cool, etc...

I was happy, doing something good for humanity and the environment... then DARPA took our research, I was disheartened... and now I have no idea where or how it is being used, but doesn't seem to be helping humanity... I notice the grandchildren of this research coming up in the news, the whole Cambridge Analytica scandal seemed quite familiar, if anything I was wondering why it took so long for people to notice...

Anyway, moral of the story: no matter what we build, and how good our intentions, somebody will figure out how to do evil with it.

punchingpeople··on Georgia Has a Coast?
Just realized that, my mistake. Every time I hear Georgia I immediately think about the country in the Caucasus. I am half asleep right now.

Georgia, USA, could be interesting too, although the only thing I know about it is they film "The Walking Dead" there.

punchingpeople··on Georgia Has a Coast?
I have visited the Bulgarian side of the Black Sea and found it quite fascinating, there was a time wild dolphins came not far from the coast. For sure I would love to visit the Georgian coast as well, have heard good things of the place and have never met a bad Georgian.
punchingpeople··on Ask HN: What Are Your New Years Resolutions or 2018 Goals?
I decided to stop caring so much about the world and others, and pay more attention to my needs and desires.

I will start drinking daily and become an alcoholic, want to see how far can I go while still functioning in society. The moment my drinking becomes too much, I will just quit society and disappear.

To show I mean business, I started today.

punchingpeople··on Ask HN: Software Developers – Do you like your job?
Former poor rural farm kid here as well. I have to admit I wouldn't go back to the corn fields, corn harvesting is hard and painful (sharp leaves). But working with the animals is something I always miss, waking up early enough to see the sunrise on the fields, the smell of fresh manure...

Already working on making an small goat cheese operation. Goats are amazingly cost efficient and reliable.

To all the other jaded developers: I intend to create an small haven of freedom, but need smart people to do it. Something self-organized, self-sustainable and anarchic.

Who is up for it?
