psihius··on Codex on GPT6 Astra Low launched a rocket into space in Factorio Space Age 2.1
Factorio has an extremely broad LUA modding API, so a mod was made that allows it to get data about the game and send input actions to control the game. It also has ability to make screenshots and it does use it from time to time to inspect whats going on.

Since I posted, it got to Fulgora and Vulcanus, successfully colonized then and at the moment is preparing to tackle Gleba.

It's not even showing signs of stopping or getting stuck.

In this case yes, it's a custom harness that is able to read the game state via LUA modding API. But control wise it sends standard InputActions - in Factorio those are internal representation of the keyboard and mouse inputs, so it does not have any ability to programmatically create things in game.

Factorio has an extremely advanced modding API, so the codex harness has access to the game data via the client side modding LUA api to read things, it also uses the same api that is exposed as MCP tool to send Input Actions - input actions are internal Factorio representation of mouse and keyboard. It also does use screenshots sometimes to understand what's goiung on, so it's not just the modding api proxy.

Inputs wise it plays exactly as a human does, there is no difference.

As title says, without any help or infrastructure and knowledge beyound an MCP server mod in Lua for factorio for model to control the game, it has managed to launch a rocket to space in 10 hours and it has not stopped it's progress 20 hours in. This is a first with a model available to the general public without any pre-training or training wheels, cheats, editor modes and so on. The model is playing the game as a human does.

There's a better concept, it's called "Biter Battles" - just search Youtube for VOD's - there were whole bracketed tournaments with it.

They mentioned megabases. It's not something Satisfactory realistically can do :D

Max Rate Calculator mod

And then there are whole planner mods too.

Py is as hardcore as it gets, and a lot of even experienced players don't pick it up for that reason.

That being said, the Factorio crowd I rub shoulders with 1500 hours is not a lot. Heck, i myself am about 4-5k hours of gameplay and mine are rookie numbers :D

Factorio allows for an extremely wide ways to play it, multiplayer is it's own world entirely if you find a decent crew to play with (there are many communities around Factorio).

And then there's Clusterio that opens a whole new dimension of what's possible.

I have one name for you: Symfony

More or less directly opposite of what Laravel is preaching. It's the popular choice for anything that is being build long term. It is very popular in Europe and we have a far bigger community around it than Laravel does.
