pseudalopex··on Flock Wants a Closely Surveilled World with No Exit
A check point is a point where people or things are checked. It could be military or civilian. It could be permanent or temporary. It could be 1 person and a vehicle parked in a road. This would not be a military installation to most people. Or dictionaries. Or laws.
pseudalopex··on Flock Wants a Closely Surveilled World with No Exit
They did not say installation.
pseudalopex··on Mozilla says stricter antitrust measures against Google 'threaten Firefox'
> spends only a tiny fraction on its development

No. People imagined this for some reason.

pseudalopex··on Mozilla says stricter antitrust measures against Google 'threaten Firefox'
> HN is incredibly inconsistent and two-faced about which Mozilla side projects are "frivolous" and which ought to be defended to the death.

HN is not a person. People's opinions differ. This is not 2 faced.

> I'm saying you don't need to publish on Steam to make your app run on Steam.

The context was how to distribute software to Linux users. Not how Linux users could run Windows software.

The most private people I know would not ban all public recordings or to share all public recordings. They would ban with some exceptions to share recordings of people without their consent. Some would ban to keep recordings without consent. And they would not ban this if street photographers or so respected other people.

> But if this were law, so too goes the guy I saw in a park fire spinning,

He would have been there without you seemingly. Everyone who saw him there would have seen him. You meant your recording?

> so too goes the joy I captured on a strangers face at seeing a beautiful chandelier,

They would have seen the chandelier and felt joy without you seemingly. You meant your recording?

Did you ask to send them a copy? Did you ask to keep it? Did you ask to share it?

> and so too goes the countless photos of nature that happen to have people in the background.

A recording of a person and a recording of nature which happens to have people in the background are different. And some countries understood this when they made their laws.

pseudalopex··on It's time Amazon played by the same rules as everyone else [video]
The video identified injuries and accidents were problems and said Amazon claimed Amazon were exempt from liability. Not drivers were exempt from undefined somethings.

Notice of termination was the 1 bill section not connected clearly to a problem in the video. The Delivery worker record-keeping and safety obligations and Worker training sections were about injuries and accidents clearly. The Direct employment section would prevent to transfer liability to contractors.

pseudalopex··on What happens if an entire class of workers loses faith in their careers
> This is very obviously not the type of situation and behavior marginalia_nu and then I were commenting about.

marginalia_nu said all news.

pseudalopex··on What happens if an entire class of workers loses faith in their careers
Your thoughts of this are black and white seemingly. People can doom scroll news and black pill circle jerk on social media. Or they can use them to learn things they can change and work with people to change them.
pseudalopex··on What happens if an entire class of workers loses faith in their careers
> I think this idea (and I necessarily don’t believe in it, but let’s give it a fair chance) is more like a few-weeks detox.

> Rather than giving up on news entirely, in the long-run, I’ve just dropped political podcasts and opinion pieces. I think these products exist to give us the feeling of being informed, but mostly it is just speculation.

The idea was this would teach something. And another idea was All the news is just outrage porn and non-stop predictions of impending doom. What could someone do for months or years? Cycle outrage porn and detox. Or avoid all news. But you saw news differed and you could control your news.

pseudalopex··on What happens if an entire class of workers loses faith in their careers

Yes.

No. And this shallow dismissal builds the mood you complained about.

pseudalopex··on Rust-lang/rust is adopting an LLM policy
Many people who complained of cancel culture called banishment or weaker action from 1 community cancel culture. Many more when 2 communities disciplined the same person independently. Or 1 community disciplined someone for something they did or said in another public space.

pseudalopex··on Puberty blockers trial can start recruiting children
> A high-profile clinical trial of drugs that can delay puberty in children questioning their gender can go ahead after the High Court rejected a legal challenge by campaigners.

The trial protocol said diagnosed with gender incongruence. And explained this.[1] Not questioning their gender.

pseudalopex··on Puberty blockers trial can start recruiting children
> No, that is not the purpose of "puberty blockers."

The context was gender dysphoria treatment. Please respond to the strongest plausible interpretation of what someone says, not a weaker one that's easier to criticize.[1]

> This notion of using these drugs to disrupt healthy and physiologically normal puberty, was not even a little part of their purpose.

Gender dysphoric puberty has unhealthy effects.

> gender dysphoria often resolves itself as the process of puberty and natural maturation unfolds

I never saw this claim supported by studies which did not include children who did not meet gender dysphoria criteria. And those studies found persistence predictors when they looked. Meeting gender dysphoria criteria for example.

pseudalopex··on Puberty blockers trial can start recruiting children
Most developed countries allow minors to make medical decisions from an age or if enough mature.

Puberty blockers are reversible generally. Suicide is not.

Many people believe adults should be denied assisted suicide.

Your point was what?

pseudalopex··on Puberty blockers trial can start recruiting children
Gender dysphoria is mental by definition.
pseudalopex··on Puberty blockers trial can start recruiting children
> I don't consider it gatekeeping, rather prevention of making an irreversible choice while the frontal lobe is still far from knowing even what path it wants for itself for the rest of its life.

To control access is gate keeping.

Puberty blockers' effects are reversible generally. Puberty's effects are not.

Gender affirming care regret rates are very low.

> I know that might be seen as unfair to a lot of people, but given the persistence with which gender affirmation is being pushed, I feel that cases like me are simply considered collateral damage.

Access to gender affirming care is pushed persistently because denial of gender affirming care was and is pushed persistently. And the benefits are significant. And regret rates are very low.

Do you understand that no regretted treatment would require no treatment? What ratio of regretted treatment and regretted non treatment would you consider fair?
