Attention all planets of the Solar Federation We have assumed control
pschastain··on Removed all counters, replies, following/ers, timestamps, from textlog
Gotta say that I agree with @evnm's reply on the original post that timestamps are fundamental to microblogging and maintaining a timeline. I love the philosophy behind textlog but I do disagree with this particular aspect; seems like something the author of a note/post should have choice and control of.
pschastain··on Over 170k Nonprofits Lost All Their Data. Is Microsoft to Blame?
MS's core product is and always has been Office, specifically Excel. Windows is simply the delivery method
pschastain··on I Won't Buy You a Coffee
Well that's 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back
pschastain··on Thunderbird Littering My Home
I've used Evolution for years but lately it's started choking on gmail OAuth support. The solution appears to be installing Gnome keychain support, which then messes with KDE Wallet. For now I'm just using the web and the mobile app
pschastain··on Cloudflare flags archive.today as "C&C/Botnet"; no longer resolves via 1.1.1.2
He wasn't lying, someone got into my account here. The mods got after it pretty quickly, kudos to them, definitely appreciated.

Deflection rather than addressing the actual accusation

Pay attention to this type of behavior, folks. It's revealing

pschastain··on Motorola GrapheneOS devices will be bootloader unlockable/relockable
Still lost screen real estate
pschastain··on Motorola GrapheneOS devices will be bootloader unlockable/relockable
Except that Google would then get the profits

It's not about Google, it's about OP's personal values

Or maybe Trump is a sociopath felon with a penchant for young girls who is acting solely in his own self-interest

Given his history of failed businesses and association with a known pedophile, what seems more likely?

Some folks just don't like to laugh

For the record, I make coffee one large cup at a time via the pour-over method

pschastain··on Things to commit just before leaving your job
So you're saying that the HN front page should be humorless...

pschastain··on The 'fuck you' pattern (2021)
As someone who works in the industry I can assure you that you're not harming morale nor affecting employee retention in the slightest. Being an asshole doesn't make you relevant, it only makes you an asshole
pschastain··on The 'fuck you' pattern (2021)
To read a piece of paper I only need glasses or magnifying glass, and the entire menu is still available; it's easy to jump from one place to another on it. Zooming in on a small screen restricts the amount of information I can readily access, and forces me to scroll around to find what I want
pschastain··on Reddit.com appears to be having an outage
Cloudflare is having issues, could be that
pschastain··on Did Reddit just destroy mobile browser access?
In a word, no, at least not for me (ymmv; it's reddit we're talking about) I use the mobile site daily (until the blackout), shows me as logged in, never had any issues
pschastain··on Tell HN: I used the same computer since 2007 (with minor upgrades)
My last MBP lasted for 10 years of heavy daily use with keyboard & fan replacements along with SSD & RAM upgrades

pschastain··on `curl wttr.in`: Weather in your terminal
A nice idea but it gives the wrong info for Spokane, WA, USA
pschastain··on Preview, the Mac app people forget about
Apple rewrote Preview.app post-Mavericks and crippled it in the process; text box placement definitely lost functionality
pschastain··on Preview, the Mac app people forget about
I used to use Preview.app extensively for work until it was rewritten & hobbled post-Mavericks. While it's still useful it lost a lot of functionality i.e. "smart" text insertion.
pschastain··on Ask HN: MacBooks seems to be the only viable option these days
My last MBP only lasted 10 years of almost daily use so yeah, no practical use at all...
