pruthvishetty··on Ask HN: How to be more productive?
Use an Eisenhower matrix (I've made one on trello which I'd be happy to share). Use this for high level tasks. (Ex: Make cake). Now every evening, write down sub tasks on paper (Ex: Get flour, get sugar, make whipped cream etc.) and time block it on your next day's calendar. Works pretty well for me!
pruthvishetty··on Kanban board in one HTML using localstorage
The free version of trello is a good alternative.
pruthvishetty··on The Atrocious Robert Clive
The Anarchy by William Dalrymple throws some light on Clive's life as well.
pruthvishetty··on I almost quit caffeine in one year
I quit coffee about 3 years ago. I still drink coffee (< 10 times a year) when it's really cold outside or when we're traveling, but it's no longer compulsive. I can have coffee when I want, and choose to avoid it when I don't.
pruthvishetty··on A new population of blue whales was discovered hiding in the Indian Ocean
Funny how the largest animal on the planet needs to hide.
pruthvishetty··on Apple targets car production by 2024, eyes ‘next level’ battery tech: sources
It would be great for Tesla's mission if a company like Apple becomes a player in this space. We definitely need more manufacturers. But just based on the incremental engineering expertise Tesla has acquired over the years in manufacturing - especially now with the diecast, the data the hundreds and thousands of Tesla cars are capturing everyday, the increasingly vertical integration of their process, a decision maker like Musk, and most importantly, Apple's history with Project Titan (which I happen to know something about), I'm not too optimistic of much happening in this direction. There is still nothing out there to indicate Apple can handle it when the rubber hits the road at 80 mph. One area where I am slightly optimistic about Apple doing something potentially significant is in the battery space, in which case, it would compete with the likes of QuantumScape, and not Tesla, per se.

pruthvishetty··on Challenge to scientists: does your ten-year-old code still run?
I read it as does your ten-year-old still run code, and was thinking if this was a challenge for scientists to have their kids do better things than coding.

pruthvishetty··on Ask HN: Anyone here using their iPad to program on?
You can code online (say on Sagemaker) with a keyboard. It's handy if you move around a lot or if you need to do some coding while traveling. I find the 2 monitor adjustable desk setup to be most conducive though.

pruthvishetty··on Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses?
I ran an online consultancy in 2014 - 2015 for grad school applications, between the time I applied and started school (for almost a year). Zero operational expenses, as I ran the whole thing as a Facebook page with a Gmail id. This was in India, and I made about 800-1000 USD a month. Only reason to close it was I couldn't give it time once grad school started.
pruthvishetty··on Ask HN: What's a promising area to work on?
Whatever is needed. At this point in time, it would be areas like clean energy for the whole planet, digitizing governance, helping people keep fit and healthy, growing nutritious food, population control, conserving forests and staying out of the way of mother nature.
