progrus··on OpenAI's o1 Playing Codenames
GPT-3 was superhuman at this too
progrus··on Congress hears testimony on aliens
I’m not going to bother, this is misdirection.

My guess is they found a room-temperature superconductor that can store incredible amounts of electrical energy, and the quantum drive from https://ivolimited.us/ actually works.

progrus··on Congress hears testimony on aliens
Room-temperature superconducting magnetic energy storage, powering a craft with a thruster like this: https://ivolimited.us/
progrus··on Congress hears testimony on aliens the government hides
That could be a test animal
progrus··on All political ads running on Google in the US
Ok, now let’s see the breakdown of winred/ActBlue email getting through spam filtering. IOS only capitalizes one of those, so there’s a clue
progrus··on Google commits to buying power generated by nuclear-energy startup Kairos Power
The only reason nuclear power has been stagnating for ~50 years in the US is corruption
progrus··on The possibilities for dark matter have shrunk
I’m rooting for Mike McCulloch’s Quantized Inertia formulation to upend the whole GR-plus-extensions regime.

progrus··on Zuckerberg says the White House pressured Facebook over some Covid-19 content
The long march has stalled, soon the lizards will break ranks and flee.
progrus··on Today's AI Isn't Sentient
No. Maybe proof that some intelligence is encoded into the algebraic relationships between all the words ever written, but “general intelligence” would be a misleading way to describe it.
progrus··on Globalization was supposed to align the values. They're diverging
There’s a Bible story about this
progrus··on Anger is eliminated with the disposal of a paper written because of provocation
Also works with the drafts folder
progrus··on Superconductivity scandal: the story of deception in a physics lab
They’re waiting for Arxiv to approve because patents may be denied if they go around that system.
progrus··on Claim: the ideal PR is 50 lines long
Agrees with gut check.
progrus··on It's time to admit that genes are not the blueprint for life
This is totally different from any design stage that is iterative or modular in that way though.

It’s more like that laminar flow demo where you mix the paints in a circle and then unmix them the other way - the patterns are there but the way they emerge cannot be understood due to chaos and complexity.

progrus··on It's time to admit that genes are not the blueprint for life
Not in the sense that any person has ever used the word “blueprint”, no.
progrus··on In a 'Dark Dimension,' Physicists Search for the Universe's Missing Matter
Ahh the headline makes it sound like the scientists have traveled to a hypothetical dimension
progrus··on Researchers discover physical cause of long Covid tiredness
That camp has the people who had a bad reaction to the vaccine or booster, mostly. Not sure how they compare numbers wise.

Maybe the vaccine caused a similar hit to the immune system for some people, this stuff is complicated.

progrus··on Researchers discover physical cause of long Covid tiredness
It’s not psychosomatic, but there usually are multiple contributing factors to serious respiratory disease, and I think it’s OK to consider it as a relevant one of them in many cases.

Fair enough?

progrus··on Researchers discover physical cause of long Covid tiredness
Absolutely not what I’m doing… I used the phrase “one of” for a reason
progrus··on Researchers discover physical cause of long Covid tiredness
Am I supposed to believe that these physiological effects have nothing to do with fear of the virus?

progrus··on Researchers discover physical cause of long Covid tiredness
One mechanism is physiological stress when people believe they’ve been cursed:

progrus··on Nobody knows what's happening online anymore
No, you two are brainwashed!
progrus··on Nobody knows what's happening online anymore
Common sense is more valuable (in the real sense, not just money) than a diploma.

And, the GPT revolution is making traditional education even less important than before.

“Hate all you want, but I'm smart, I'm so smart, and I'm in school. These guys are out here making money all these ways, and I'm spending mine to be smart. You know why? Because when I die, buddy, know what's gonna keep me warm? That's right, those degrees.” - Kanye West

progrus··on Nobody knows what's happening online anymore
Oh really? Which group are you?

That election was about people with common sense getting one over on the brainwashed mids, obviously.

progrus··on Appeals court rules White House likely overstepped 1st Amendment on social media
It’s a big catch-22 kind of problem. “Politics is downstream from culture” but right now politics is being weaponized against culture.
progrus··on GitHub was down
Or “gee, Hunter Biden is a swell son, he sure got to Vegas really fast! He must be on crack!”
progrus··on Cesium-soaked truffles may keep fallout in an environment’s food web
Anyone who eats pork anyway should have no problem with this meat either.

This sounds like grasping at straws, a last-ditch effort to scare the not-so-easily-persuadable-anymore into opposing modern power development with nuclear fission.

And here is your yearly reminder that Friends of the Earth was founded with a donation from Robert Orville Anderson, an oil baron: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friends_of_the_Earth_(US)

progrus··on High-Speed AI Drone Overtakes World-Champion Drone Racers
SQL is more dangerous.
progrus··on A study on robustness and reliability of large language model code generation
So, sorta like a human, then.
