profinger··on Ask HN: Do you play Chess?
I don't understand the imperfect information thing. The whole game is assuming what the other player is attempting to do. Can't the other player not acting how you predicted be considered a bug? Or is this more formally defined than I'm aware of?
profinger··on Twitter Contest Winning as a Service
Well I'm sure said things didn't just get thrown away lol
profinger··on Windows 10 will not permit re-installation if any hardware changes
I'm not sure if the imgur people are just expressing their opinions that this is stupid and just assuming that no one can be that stupid or if a few are more informed than a Microsoft tech (awful but not surprising) but the comments there seem to lean toward this support person being incorrect.
profinger··on Wink Health: Making Five Guys Less Fattening
This is awesome!
profinger··on A Drug Hits Cycling Before It Hits the Market
How do these drug tests work? I was under the impression that drug tests only found things that they were looking for. How did they know to be looking for this new drug? I'm googling to try to figure it out but maybe someone is familiar with this process?
profinger··on The adblocking revolution is months away
Which is why people want to block them completely lol
profinger··on The adblocking revolution is months away
Aside from ads, mobile websites in general are complete garbage. So then adding a banner to the bottom is just icing on the cake.
profinger··on Modals in React
Why would you not use it? You can annoy your user with it and not have the concern of being blocked by some stupid popup blocker? Do you want to take a survey? Sign up for my newsletter? I know it's your first time on the site and you didn't even get to the content yet but SERIOUSLY I NEED YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS.
profinger··on Handwriting Generation with Recurrent Neural Networks
The network that picked up that task was just a little wacky. No big deal. Look the other way. Please ignore. whistle

lol

profinger··on Hackers Remotely Attack a Jeep on the Highway
It's not about the fact that the Jeep was hackable it's about the fact that the demonstration was done on a crowded highway with civilians around.
profinger··on Hackers Remotely Attack a Jeep on the Highway
I agree with your move. Not sure who else was supporting you so I figured I'd offer my support. This was stupid as hell and I'm sure was likely set-up/suggested by Wired as a shock film.
profinger··on Why Web Pages Suck
Yeah people only want to make their sites flashy and fancy. It's crap. Half of the time the content is hidden behind some stupid fancy animation or modal window.
profinger··on Why Web Pages Suck
This!!!!!!! I can't stand these sites!!!!
profinger··on [dead]
I've been interested in this but, as of now, it's completely unaffordable. :-(
profinger··on Amazon API Gateway – Build and Run Scalable Application Backends
HackerNews effect :-( Site is down.
profinger··on A Quick Puzzle to Test Your Problem Solving

profinger··on June Intelligent Oven
You just saying that has elevated my blood pressure. Firefox does the same thing. GRRR haha
profinger··on TSA failure: Investigators able to smuggle weapons past checks in 95% of tests
Probably too many zeros there. A great deal of Americans would probably do it for $50.
profinger··on AdBlock Plus wins in court
It's like TV without a DVR. It's like "People actually SIT THROUGH THIS SHIT?"
profinger··on AdBlock Plus wins in court
IMO, if I downloaded something that is supposed to block the ads, I don't want the damn ads. I've not used ABP in a while but I'd be pretty pissed if it started loading ads again just because the people had paid for it. They had to figure out some way to make money, though, I guess.
profinger··on Top data mining algorithms in plain English
This is what I was thinking as well! The explanation is good but it's the actual steps of the algorithm that are the difficult part!
profinger··on A high-resolution Minecraft world renderer with a Google Maps interface
Amazing!
profinger··on Information Geometry
Way to look on the bright side!
profinger··on Information Geometry
Agreed.
profinger··on Twitter, but without code
Except for the fact that it's barking up the wrong tree. This likely won't change anything. It'll just make a new programming market. Now, instead of people going "I don't want to learn to code, I'll just hire a developer." they'll go "I don't want to learn to write a website, I'll just hire a developer".

If someone doesn't want to dig in to building something for themselves they won't no matter how easy you make the tools. WYSIWYG editors have been around for decades but programmers still have a job. They've gone from writing crazy cobol to doing .net but they are still doing it.

profinger··on Twitter, but without code
Haha bubble's site did the same thing. Seems like a stable platform.
profinger··on Twitter, but without code
No man, who needs engineers now. We can make a registration button that gives an error. That's all you really need to write a website isn't it?
profinger··on Twitter, but without code
"Ran into a temporary bug..." lol

Yay for frontpage 2.0. All this seems to do is make it easier for people to not better themselves. "What's this? I can make a website without having to learn anything?! Great! Let me put a million animated gifs on here!"

profinger··on Lily – Drone camera
Especially at the rate that batteries degrade. It'll be no time before you're getting 3-4 minutes per charge!
