primaryobjects··on Show HN: ANSI-Saver – A macOS Screensaver
This would be great with an option to draw each ANSI line by line with pixels drawn left to right. The same way it was experienced over dialup.

The options could be baud rates: 56k, 14.4, 2400

primaryobjects··on Ask HN: Could you share your personal blog here?
https://primaryobjects.com

My blog about artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and software development topics.

I also post frequently on Medium as well.

primaryobjects··on Free public domain audiobooks
iPhone users can enable Spoken Content.

Open an ebook. Swipe down with two fingers. Instant audio book.

Also, you can select the Voices option (under Spoken Content) to download high quality Siri voices.

primaryobjects··on Intermittent fasting prompts anti-inflammatory response
1 tsp apple cider vinegar mixed in a full glass of water.

It also helps to drink with a straw to avoid residual acid on the teeth (although the water already diluted it enough).

primaryobjects··on OpenAI Shuts Down Chatbot Project by Indie Developer
I think this is an excellent explanation for why it may have been shut down and the need for some degree of monitoring accountability.

The fear is not that the chat bot will come to life, but rather than the text content it's been trained upon could potentially regurgitate back dangerous responses.

I don't think it's too far of a leap to see someone taking the output from the bot too literally and possibly creating a negative situation.

primaryobjects··on Automating programming: AI is transforming the coding of computer programs
One of the largest programs generated had consisted of about 300 instructions.

This particular program included if/then conditionals, counting down in a loop, concatenation of a numeric value with text, and displaying output.

The system also attempts to optimize the number of programming instructions executed, in which case complexity can actually be considered based upon the resulting behavior, rather than LOC.

Interesting timing, as tomorrow I will be presenting on this very topic.

primaryobjects··on How to Get Better at Recursion
Practicing dynamic programming algorithms is also an excellent way to get better at recursion (and recurrences).

Even better, dynamic programming is often more production worthy, since it can result in improved time complexity.

primaryobjects··on Proof emerges that a quantum computer can outperform a classical one
The Traveling Salesman Problem is indeed a potential application of quantum computing. Grover’s Search could theoretically find a solution in quadratic time (sqrt(n!) versus n!). On a physical quantum computer, this would have profound impact to many different real-world applications.
primaryobjects··on Team closes in on “holy grail” of room temperature quantum computing chips
QisKit, in Python, is also a popular framework. Here is a tutorial:

primaryobjects··on Inheritance versus Composition
Composition also facilitates utilizing (GOF) design patterns. They can make code much cleaner and reusable when used properly and sparingly.
primaryobjects··on Belgian programmer solves MIT’s 20-year-old time capsule cryptographic puzzle
Congratulations! I’m curious if a quantum algorithm could help with this, as the problem deals with factoring large numbers?
primaryobjects··on Show HN: Solve and generate mazes with JavaScript on HTML Canvas
Nice. I created a maze solver in js and canvas as well, solving using the A* and Tremaux algorithms.

You can even create your own mazes by passing json in the url.

primaryobjects··on Ask HN: Would you want to sell code of complete websites?
Buyers are typically more interested in buying a niche customer base/traffic, then they are about buying a web site code base.

In fact, many buyers don't even consider the programming language or platform the site is hosted on as being important, so long as they can get it up and running - and it has good PR and traffic analytics.

Hence, why fippa works (at least for selling a site for a few hundred; if you're lucky).

primaryobjects··on Show HN: Griddle 1.0 – A customizable datagrid component for React
I'd recommend checking out Bootstrap Datatables. You just include the cdn link and select the table to style via javascript/jquery. Very simple and you get column sorting, paging, and search.

primaryobjects··on Challenges you’re going to face when building a chatbot
I wrote my first chatbot for IRC, and then later on for AIM. Such great memories!

The first chapter of my book, "Building Voice-Enabled Apps with Alexa" covers several of these topics, including XDCC chatbots, Eliza, The Loebner Prize, and a lot more of chatbot history. Fun stuff!

primaryobjects··on Eve: Programming designed for humans
"..rather than specify programs precisely, we give examples to an approximate system and hope for the best."

I agree with this, as it has the most potential to bring an entirely new paradigm to software development.

I've been working on a research project like this, using genetic algorithms to write programs. Unit tests are used to guide the fitness. The AI discovers a solution program that satisfies the test cases.

primaryobjects··on Show HN: Build your first real world React.js application
I just went through the first tutorial and it's well written. However, I just had to try it with AngularJs and jQuery as well. Here are the results http://goo.gl/V0NvkC

In such a simple example, I think jquery wins. However, more complicated solutions might be better suited towards frameworks like Angular and React.

primaryobjects··on Ask HN: Is anybody doing something productive with IBM Watson or is it just BS?
I've used it for a prototype project for the news industry, though not in production.

primaryobjects··on Ask HN: SEO impact of HN's URL “itemid” vs. an actual title?
I can think of a couple of impacts:

- Shorter urls are easier to copy and share.

+ Keywords in the url may increase search engine rank.

+ Full title in the url helps readers know what they're clicking.

There are advantages to having the full title in the url for both SEM and readers. However, as others mention, HN wasn't designed for SEM and contains no ads to profit from it.

primaryobjects··on Watson for President
I tend to agree. There is an awful lot of media hype over AI and not enough context.

For anyone interested, here is a recent presentation I gave on Watson and a summary of what it can do.
