pratio··on Show HN: Horizon – Private alternative to Imgur
It's an impressive lot more. There's a desktop app for mac and even a beta version for Linux.
pratio··on New Mexico: Psychologists to dress up as wizards when providing expert testimony
Therapy isn't pseudoscience but the reproducibility crisis is real. There's also the issue that if you change a therapist, their approach to treating, diagnosing a condition will change. With modern medicine, we have tests and reports and doctor's don't've that much of a leeway on how they treat a condition. We have medical malpractice lawsuits when doctor's go out of line.

Like the parent mentioned, the reproducibility crisis didn't change anything, we also can't be sure how many doctors actually took these findings into account.

The point I'm trying to make is that it is really difficult to identify bad therapists. It'll take a while before it's reliable enough and that's okay, but therapy gets thrown around as an option like it is.

pratio··on Show HN: Stack, an open-source Clerk/Firebase Auth alternative
If you're looking for a system that has more features, is user friendly, a nice admin ui and easy deployments compared to Keycloak. Please give https://goauthentik.io/ a shot. Not affiliated in any way, just a very happy user.

It has

-an admin UI

- Supports (LDAP, SAML, OAUTH, social logins)

- MFA, Passkeys

- Application access based on user groups etc

pratio··on Google Docs adds tracking to links in document exports
Came here to mention cryptpad. I selfhost it and it's quite good.
pratio··on Show HN: Use your familiar Markdown editor to create and publish web pages
I saw the videos and it looks very impressive. Congratulations on the release.
pratio··on Atlassian cripples’ Jira automation for all but enterprise customers
I've been hosting Taiga for a small team and it's been a pleasure to work with. Can't tell how it'll work for a 100 developer team with multiple product managers, scrum masters etc, I'm hoping someone else here has an idea. But for a small team of 25-30 people everything's smooth.

pratio··on I digitalized Berlin's registration form
Amazing! I've always admired your work, allaboutberlin is a fantastic resource.
pratio··on Seven Sins of Writing
I used to believe that too, but that's not the case it seems. https://dickens.ucsc.edu/resources/faq/by-the-word.html

pratio··on Show HN: Spotitube – synchronize Spotify collections from external providers
Congratulations on the launch. It's great to see work in this space.

At the moment, I'm using https://freeyourmusic.com/ (no affiliation) because I have playlists on apple music, spotify and youtube.

Do you plan to add support for apple music later?

pratio··on Show HN: Salesbricks – Sales platform to help you close deals and get paid day 1
I understand that not all companies want to provide a trial account but is there a demo to see how the platform actually looks? Or even a demo video?
pratio··on When did people stop being drunk all the time?
Thank you so much. My Croatian friend has agreed to help me with it.
pratio··on Show HN: Open-source library to manage todo items in Python code
Congratulations on the release but in general TODOs in code should be avoided whenever possible. If you have to, It's better to put them out as a part of your readme or a ticketing system.

We don't merge code with TODOs unless there's a JIRA ticket attached to it. It keeps them a part of our tech debt and we actually do complete them, the idea came from here. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24558493

pratio··on The cloud is a prison. can the local-first software movement set us free?
The comment section seems to be going in the direction of On-Perm vs Cloud while the article is about the local machine of the user. As in instead of using google doc to collaborate, we each use a document editor on our local machines and then sync without going through a middleman.
pratio··on Show HN: Local development with .local domains and HTTPS
We use mkcert for this, it works wonderfully.

pratio··on Show HN: Markwhen: Markdown for Timelines
Congratulations on the release. I've been following this project for a while and it's great to see this. I agree with many others here about an obsidian plugin but no rush. The work you've done here is amazing.
pratio··on Show HN: Linkwarden – An open source collaborative bookmark manager
Thanks for pointing that out. I'm already using authelia backed by ldap, it'll be an easy setup. I might've to figure how to merge the existing users and their data though.
pratio··on Show HN: Linkwarden – An open source collaborative bookmark manager
I'll definitely give it a short this weekend. Are there any plans to support different authentication methods? Like LDAP, OAuth2 etc?

I'm using linkding at the moment https://github.com/sissbruecker/linkding which also has a browser addon, the only missing thing is some form central user auth but we're using it as it is.

pratio··on When did people stop being drunk all the time?
Any chance you can point to this letter or the literature? Sounds super interesting.
pratio··on Show HN: CreatorKit – FREE self-host OSS alternative to Mailchimp
It seems that the license not MIT or GPL. The Git repository is here

https://github.com/ServiceStack/CreatorKit.

The deployment also seems rather complicated for just a UI that would use something like SES in the background.

https://github.com/ServiceStack/CreatorKit/blob/main/.deploy...

I use Listmonk and I have no complaints, it's simple and does what it promises

pratio··on Lazydocker: a lazier way to manage everything Docker
I've been using LazyDocker everyday for a couple of years now. Absolutely love it. I got used to it instead of going for the docker commands directly.
pratio··on Ory Kratos v1.0 with passkeys, MFA and multi-region
Absolutely, Authentik when you need complicated workflows but if you just need to put a login screen in front of page and use OIDC or LDAP with 2FA Authelia's got you covered.
pratio··on Ory Kratos v1.0 with passkeys, MFA and multi-region
Thank you so much for the links. I'll give it a shot this weekend.

- You're probably right about Keycloak having a larger footprint.

- We have between 400 to 500k users and it hasn't been an issue.

- Can't comment on the IBM connection, I just don't know enough about it.

- We do use multiple auth methods and deploying that was really easy.

So it's definitely an easier plug-and-play solution, we've deployed it with k8s.

pratio··on Ory Kratos v1.0 with passkeys, MFA and multi-region
Is there an easy way to deploy Ory? Even just to test?

At the moment I'm using Keycloak at work, authentik for side projects and authelia for personal ones where I don't need anything complicated. I couldn't find a deployment guide or a quick docker-compose. Also, If this link is still up-to date the self-hosted version is missing user and configuration management UIs https://www.ory.sh/ory-network-or-self-hosting-explained-use...

Any reason to pick this over keycloak? we're planning to deploy passkeys and web-auth and it's also supported https://keycloak.ch/keycloak-tutorials/tutorial-passkey/ https://keycloak.ch/keycloak-tutorials/tutorial-webauthn/

pratio··on Generate invoices from the command line
Sounds interesting, do you plan to open source it?.
pratio··on Show HN: Open-source resume builder and parser
Amazing, Looking forward to the new updates. Huge fan of jsonresume and your work in general.
pratio··on Show HN: Open-source resume builder and parser

pratio··on Show HN: SQLPage – Build Dynamic Websites with Just SQL Queries
Fantastic.
pratio··on Ibramenu: Bash-based self-hosted app deployment
Any reason to use this instead of Ansible? The video shows that this package or script needs to be transported to the host machine before it could be executed or perhaps I understood it wrong.

(Edit) So, I checked out the repository, I personally wouldn't use it or recommend it to anyone. It's a collection of bash scripts, it'd be a pain to debug, log and fix. Ansible playbooks are a much better option. You should be able to version control your deployments and configurations these days.
