Hydron[1] has a search previous chats tool. It's built for embedded software but works well for general software engineering work too.

Disclaimer: I am the lead dev for it.

prashantsengar··on Show HN: Hydron – Hardware-aware coding agent
The errata sheet and the datasheet are both ingested together and well in scope of Hydron, any work around to be done is verified by keeping both these docs in sight
prashantsengar··on Show HN: Hydron – Hardware-aware coding agent
Other files types supported include Word, Excel, CSV, Markdown, XML, Text and ZIP files. We can also index entire codebases and GitHub repositories as agent context.
prashantsengar··on Show HN: Hydron – Hardware-aware coding agent
That's a great question. Indexing time directly depends on the number of pages in the PDF, for a 5000 page PDF it roughly takes around 30 minutes to index.

prashantsengar··on The TSA's New $45 Fee to Fly Without ID Is Illegal
Tangential: Here in India we have security guards with hand-held metal detectors in malls, railway stations, and urban transit rails (metro) stations.

The first time I visited a different country I was surprised to see my friend accompany me to the check-in counter and even further to drop me off. In India they wouldn't let you enter the airport if your flight doesn't depart soon enough.

This is very useful! I frequently copy the response of one model and ask another to review it and I have seen really good results with that approach.

Can you also include Cursor CLI for the brainstorming? This would allow someone to unlock brainstorming with just one CLI since it allows to use multiple models.

prashantsengar··on I realized bad lighting is quietly hurting productivity (and no one measures it)
This is surprising. I generally notice that I have more eye fatigue when working in a dark room compared to when I keep the room bright.

prashantsengar··on Disable AI in Firefox
And honestly it seems ironic that a lot of people on HN want Firefox to be used by everyone but don't want Mozilla to add features that the "normies" want.
prashantsengar··on Nobel Peace Prize 2025: María Corina Machado
Why would the military keep a "compliant native" under house arrest though? Wouldn't it be better for them to get her killed?
prashantsengar··on Nobel Peace Prize 2025: María Corina Machado
Calling Nehru "installed" by Mountbatten misses the crucial context of the time. Nehru was the undisputed leader of the Indian National Congress, which had been the primary force behind the independence movement for decades and had overwhelming popular support. Mountbatten's appointment was more of a constitutional formality in the transfer of power, not an act of kingmaking. It's like saying the Chief Justice "installs" a newly elected president.

The same goes for the Aung San Suu Kyi connection. Labeling her a "compliant native" seems to ignore the 15 years she spent under house arrest actively fighting against a military junta. That's a pretty high price to pay for being a supposed puppet.

prashantsengar··on Why do LLMs freak out over the seahorse emoji?
It's a reference to a short story "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream"

It is also a lot of work (and intuitive) to publish all the content on a website and then intentionally make it unpleasant to read just to encourage book sales.

The place I work at, we replaced our old NLP pipelines with LLMs because they are easier to maintain and reach the same level of accuracy with much less work.

We are not running a call centre ourselves but we are a SaaS offering the services for call centre data analysis.

Thanks for sharing this! I have been trying on and off to run RooCode on a VPS to use it on the go. I tried Code Server but it does not share "sessions". KASM seems interesting for this. Do share if you write a blog post on setting it up

Any chance of this being open-source? I would like to build something like this for my country as well.
prashantsengar··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2025)
An open-source pluggable version of Omnivore (read-it-later app).

The idea came since Omnivore decided to shut down. It is open source and self-hostable but the whole system has so many bells and whistles that nobody would want to self-host it. Even more, even if I am able to export all my data, I will be unable to use their beautiful client to view my data or build anything of my own because I am not good at that.

The idea is to have a read-it-later app that has modular components each of which can be self-hosted independently which talk in protocols. So a different data crawler module that can take many forms - browser extension, Telegram bot, or something else, that takes an URL and posts the page content to a server.

The server will have modular parsers that are extensible to support different websites and pages, contributed by community (similar to Telegram's parser or Calibre's). It then converts it into a common format to be stored.

The storage should also be pluggable so that I can easily store my data wherever I want - whether locally as MD files, on S3, or on an SQL Database. This also should be extensible to allow different storage types like so many other tools do.

Then a web server that serves common endpoints to read, add tags and annotations, and other operations. It just needs the user's storage endpoint and authorization to allow them to access their data. I feel this is going to be the most challenging.

Let users create their own clients that render this for users. Just like Telegram and Matrix.

This idea resurfaced recently because I wanted to try getrecall.ai but it looks too expensive and I am worried about privacy. Having a setup like this would allow me to plugin a local LLM to this system as well.

prashantsengar··on Will You Be Domesticated by AI?
plan is to add a feature where the AI tells you how to cutemax to have a better chance being their pet
prashantsengar··on Will You Be Domesticated by AI?
I was sitting and imagining what would be the future once AI starts doing everything for humans. I imagined a future where humans don't do any work and everything is done by AI. At that point humans would relax and get fed by the work of the AI.

In short, we will become cats for our AI overlords.

When that happens, it will be important to be cute enough for an AI overlord to "adopt" us. Hence this attempt.

prashantsengar··on Ask HN: What's the most creative 'useless' program you've ever written?
I found the GitHub repo too although I am a little embarrassed by the code now

https://github.com/prashantsengar/randraw

prashantsengar··on Ask HN: What's the most creative 'useless' program you've ever written?
I had created a program that would listen to my keystrokes and then draw a different shape on each keypress in a canvas, some keys would fill colours, others would change size of an existing shape. It could also insert images from a defined folder.

I could "start" and "stop" by pressing a hotkey. At the end of it, I would have a random art generated.

prashantsengar··on Ask HN: How did you become a good listener?

prashantsengar··on Ask HN: Has Anyone Trained a personal LLM using their personal notes?
Not on my notes, but I have used GPT4All to chat with the documents of dapr. I downloaded the md files from the docs GitHub repo and loaded the directory in GPT4All.

It is not "training" a model but works pretty great.

prashantsengar··on Happy New Year HN!
I used to be the one who would never initiate and would feel sad when a relationship just drifted away.

Now I am the initiator most of the times.

prashantsengar··on Ask HN: What is your new year's resolution for 2024?
Sell my current side-project.

I started working on it as a student to learn how to build for people, some selling skills, and earn a little money if possible.

Now that I don't have to spend much time on it every month, I intend to finish a few more things over weekends and sell it so that I can start working on something fresh.

I just haven't learnt how to hire and get people to work - let's see if I can try that too while I try selling :)

prashantsengar··on Ask HN: How to help a shy developer to participate to a team?
I used to by a shy junior developer. What helped me was that the environment was very friendly and whenever I spoke, I was heard. Not just heard, but if my suggestions were good they enacted upon. If not, I was explained why.

I also had many casual discussions with my manager so that helped me open up with him. Later I had discussions with other (equally welcoming) senior devs. Now the whole team feels like friends to me and I generally don't shy in speaking up.
