praneshp··on Launch HN: Bottomless (YC W19) – Coffee Restocked with a Smart Scale
yeah, sorry about that.
praneshp··on Launch HN: Bottomless (YC W19) – Coffee Restocked with a Smart Scale
Good luck!

A year and half ago I had to write down all the spices/ingredients we had and how much was left, because we kept running out and finding out when cooking. My wife and I discussed how a scale like this would be awesome!

Hope this works out!

right, your time spent writing that comment is more useful and solves real-world problems. I feel bad for your kids
praneshp··on Tesla Model Y
> it's in the shop for MONTHS waiting on parts

tbh, if I got a, say, BMW, knowing the nearest branch is 5 hours away, I would factor the possibility that it can be in the show for WEEKS, if not MONTHS, waiting on parts. (my 3-series has spent 2 weeks at the dealership at least twice)

> What is left apart from fulfilling the god complex and saving the world?

Well one thing I can think of is wanting to make the world better

praneshp··on Facebook Loses Top Executives, Including Chris Cox
Right, the then world's richest started a charitable trust purely so he could improve his public image.

In fb's case you look at impact from the end-user's perspective, while in Azure/Spotify case you switch to the provider's perspective.

That's not what Ivy League means though, right?

praneshp··on Give Me Back My Monolith
I know copy paste is looked down upon, but it's even suggested as a good practice (a little bit) in golang. A little copying is better than a little dependency.

praneshp··on Elon Musk Tried to Destroy a Tesla Whistleblower
Partially correct. _Some_ variants of model 3 will continue to be sold at 35k
praneshp··on Elon Musk Tried to Destroy a Tesla Whistleblower
> Just look at the $35k Tesla that he pulled off by kicking out sales. A regular CEO wouldn't have done that.

You know that's reversed right? https://paloaltoonline.com/news/2019/03/11/tesla-puts-brakes...

praneshp··on Elon Musk Tried to Destroy a Tesla Whistleblower
I have personally downgraded them to about TechCrunch level, but I haven't noticed a lot of questioning on HN.

Is southwest refusing refunds? Not doubting you, just asking if there has been a story about it.

praneshp··on Nvidia to Acquire Mellanox for $6.9B
sorry, I should have moved the end of my comment ("are backed by _real_ technology") to the end of my first statement.
praneshp··on Nvidia to Acquire Mellanox for $6.9B
Ah, I see. Not only do you have to have made solid technology, it should not be delivered through an app or website. I didn't realize those were the goalposts.

(https://engineering.linkedin.com/open-source as as starting point)

praneshp··on Nvidia to Acquire Mellanox for $6.9B
> how come mobile apps and websites get valued

Can you name many apps and websites that closed (aka IPO or sold, not funding round) at 10+/20+ billion? Unless you're going to go for the stupid "uber is an android app my kid could could make for their senior project" shtick, I think most 10b+ apps are backed by _real_ technology

praneshp··on Tufts student claims innocence after being expelled for grade hacking
> You clearly have no experience with university tribunals. The only path to getting a fair hearing is to retain a lawyer ...

Very true. During my onboarding at Gatech, they clearly told us (in similar words): "Unlike courts, the burden of proof is on you, not on us. If caught hacking, you'll serve jailtime then come back to find us waiting."

praneshp··on Updates from YC
> I have many coworkers who ride BART

Have you personally taken BART on a consistent enough basis? I took it two days a week for a significant length of time and calling it filthy is not hysteria at all.

praneshp··on YouTube bans comments on all videos of children
Could be a function of what you watch. I frequent cricket/soccer/indian music videos which match your experience. Other things like VASAviation are filled with awesome comments.
praneshp··on SEC Asks Manhattan Federal Court to Hold Elon Musk in Contempt

"just" is just your opinion

I do.

praneshp··on Paul Graham on the Transition to Meat Substitutes
> that nice tasting veggie dishes are often being replaced in restaurants with horrible tasting meat-substitute dishes

Ha, this is a problem my wife has started having after impossible burger became popular in the bay area. All our favorite burger joints now serve that, instead of the brilliant vegan burgers they used to have (including my workplace).

praneshp··on How Former Ref Tim Donaghy Conspired to Fix NBA Games
> I challenge a downvoter to reply with any pro sport without confirmed fixing, PED use, and predatory hiring.

That's not the point your parent comment made. Your statement should be "I challenge a downvoter to reply with any pro sport that wants non-bent refs"

praneshp··on Bernie Sanders Is Running for President Again
"neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States."

You should read the Constitution.

praneshp··on How the vegan food trend made a star of the stinking jackfruit
Yes, one of my favorite dishes is an item called kootu ([0] but it's just a recipe I picked off Google).

My mom and other elders warn me to eat small helpings because it can screw with digestion, but I'm not sure if that's true.

Jackfruit is a brilliant creation of nature

praneshp··on Reddit Transparency Report 2018

No it is not. Stop using literally so liberally.

praneshp··on Fuck Your 90 Day Exercise Window (2016)

A good adult like thing to start with is not literally say "fuck you" when leaving.

praneshp··on Spotify will now suspend or terminate accounts it finds are using ad blockers
> But thinking back a few decades when I was young and didn't have much money at my disposal

Setting aside the possibility of malware for a second, would you have taken spotify/pandora with ads back then?

praneshp··on Spotify will now suspend or terminate accounts it finds are using ad blockers
> I canceled Netflix a few months ago. Their catalog is really garbage now.

weird, I just upp-ed the screen limit after 6 years because there are so many awesome new things that my wife and I want to watch independently.
