prakhar897··on Contexto: Find the Secret Word
Few months back, I also tried to create a short puzzle game called Diffudle. The game was basically AI Art + Wordle. You were given an AI generated image and you have to guess the prompt for it.

Initially, I got some traction on the site and even some strangers started promoting it.

But I soon realized that there is very little marketing spend reward. The customers spend no money and ad revenue per user is abysmal. This means you can't use conventional channels and have to rely on people actually finding it fun and recommending it to others.

Although it was getting recurring traffic with zero promotion, it still couldn't reach a self sustaining level and I had to shut it down.

You can see Youtube video of it here: https://youtu.be/uLoMd0TkGKk

The point is: Getting the right puzzle formula is extremely hard and every puzzle will not grow like "Wordle".

prakhar897··on Let's build a Chrome extension that steals as much data as possible
I have a chrome extension with about a 1000 DAU right now [link below]. I'm getting messages to buy the whole thing out but the buyer always fails to answer why they want to buy it. they are also open to buying any extension whatsoever. I suspect it's to open up the permission model and started stealing user's data.

prakhar897··on Ask HN: Why is Hacker News loading so slowly?
tried, everything comes OK.

This happens infrequently, where sometimes pages take very very long to load. Other sites run fine meanwhile.

prakhar897··on Ask HN: What's more valuable: expert or broad knowledge in different areas?
Quite the opposite in my opinion. The companies know that specialist are in low demand otherwise it would spin off to a whole other line of work. That's why they can lowball you as much as they want.

On the other hand, generalist have a much bigger market and if supply<demand, they can easily make big bucks. The thing to notice is how quickly your field is getting filled with competent labour.

Shameless Plug. How do you sell before you build if what you're building is a game?

I created https://diffudle.com/ a few months back without knowing what marketing, Idea Validation etc means. Wherever I posted, the overall sentiment was positive but the traffic to the site was still very low. Its peak was 1000 users but generally it hovered around 100 users a day. This is not enough to even sustain itself.

Lately, people told me that the game is not "that fun", I'd be very happy if I got this feedback earlier. How do I derisk this?

At least I coded it myself so saved 200k there :).

prakhar897··on Google to reduce workforce by 12k
I would've made significant more than my day job just by subscriptions (not counting share value). I had just joined workforce and leaving it so early didn't seem right to me.
prakhar897··on Google to reduce workforce by 12k
A few years ago, I built an exact replica of a Saas product I saw online and priced it 1/3 theirs. The actual founder went mad and started a smear campaign. Lucky for him, Workload at my regular job picked up and I abandoned the project, but this highlighted the weak moats of most of these products.

and this is the main reason most companies overhire. It's so that engineers are less inclined to go home and build their own competitor.

prakhar897··on Ask HN: Why Do You Prompt?
I prompt to create images for my AI Art Game: https://diffudle.com/, for landing Page tests of future products. I also occasionally use them to get cover photos etc.
prakhar897··on I'm done with Google
It's even worse on youtube. I used to save songs/videos on youtube playlist but they randomly started vanishing. Google doesn't even provide the name of the content it removed so we can search it again. Even worse, some songs actually got replaced by another version (i think due to copyright issues).

The result is I started downloading everything I loved and "liking" the content to track what I already have. There's still some duplicates but overall I retain all the videos I want. [Don't need YT premium now]

After that I downloaded mp4 to mp3 converters and stored the result in a cloud [Don't need Spotify Premium now].

Movies, TV Shows, Games, Mobile Apps, Books, Research paper are all piratable. OTT pulls episode out of air frequently and I don't like someone telling me what I should watch. [Don't need Netflix, OTTs now].

Steam is an exception since I think they really earn their 30% cut.

From the money I save, I buy/donate it to actual content I consumed and liked or software that actually help in ownership such as VLC, archive.org, overpriced merch etc. I'm supporting the revenue starved pirate community this way. Also, This means the money actually reaches the developers instead of a fat cut by the middlemen.

Paying for what you like instead of what you consume means you're supporting great work rather than spraying all works with equal money.

prakhar897··on The simplest app that makes money
I am in the same boat as the author. I decided that I'll take an year off my job to actually pursue some of these dumb ideas I get. After that, either I'll be financial independent enough to pursue more of them or realize that this isn't worth it.

Hence, I'm working on a Stable Diffusion + Wordle game (https://diffudle.com/). I realize now that getting traction isn't easy as it looks. I'll work on this for 1-2 more weeks then jump onto my next stupid thing.

prakhar897··on Ask HN: How do you deal with end of year reflection woes
I write a doc about achievement/things done in 3-months timeframe. This helps me put into perspective what activites I actually pursued instead of what activities I wished to pursue.

After that, it's stoicism mostly which helps me put into perspective things I can change and things I cannot.

prakhar897··on Binance outflows hit $6B as Mazars halts ‘proof of reserves’ work
Both Binance and Coinbase have their "wallet" apps where u can get keys for your coins. They provide a slick interface to use them as well. However in this case, you are sharing your keys with the company which means:

1. they can pull your coins out anytime.

2. They can show your coins on their balance sheet which allows them to print more of their own coins (because they are backed by deposits).

I'm the owner of https://github.com/prakhar897/awesome-wordle.

You can mail me the details of your site and the competitor's site.

I'll make sure to add a red flag against their sites to publicly condone this behaviour. I know this might not do much but it'll be a start.

prakhar897··on I am frustrated with Stable Diffusion
I'm with the author on this one. I'm working on a Stable Diffusion based word guessing game (https://diffudle.com/). If you look at the prompts and the actual images, they are miles apart. This is after I reject multiple prompts and multiple images from the selected prompt. The worst part is Midjourney is able to create much better images from the same prompt.

At this point, I'm seriously considering renaming the product and just move with another image generator.

I've used android for a few yesrs and ios for an year. I can confidently say that iphone has much much worse ux than a stock android. Every standard action 5 additional clicks, devices have much less battery size and life, doing anything in general is a pain in the a*.

Yes, that's why I was moving to LocalStorage based model but this created two different sources of truth which was the whole cause of bug. I'll fix all the issues and delete all data in cloud ASAP. :)
