pptr1··on Startup School 2014 applications are open
Ok thanks for clarifying the "YC in NYC". You are correct.

Though it is different event than the 2011 "YC in NYC". I hope you guys have worked out the logistics so attendees who have really went out of their way to be there can benefit in some way; different than just the talks which they can watch online.

I hope more people get benefits out of it.

I think if your in the area or you know tons of people going; it might be worth going. I would't go out of my way to attend.

I went to the one in NYC few years back and it was not a good experience for me. I traveled from Boston and was super excited. Just a big let down.

PG was like a celebrity their. Impossible to get in anything with him. Same with other famous founders. Basically everyone was just circling and try to figure out who to talk to next. Was super awkward.

My takeaways from NYC:

1.) PG looks exactly like his pics and acts the same. It pretty hard to get to talk to him (due to all the people clamoring for his attention).

2.) Some famous YC alum are stuck up. Never met anyone as stuck up as the non-technical reddit co-founder.

3.) Justin Kan is the nicest person. Pure respect for him.

4.) In NYC at least hordes of MBA trolling looking for "technical cofounders". Met a really rude person who actually introduced himself as having an MBA from Harvard.

San Francisco might be different.

I think this is great. Seems like tons of people would find this useful.

If you already have traction with customers already than great!

If not, you might need to follow up with them and get them to pay. Listen and iterate based on paying customers. Make them happy and I think you'll be good.

Are you the only developer on this? If that is the case, this is pretty impressive, as you did both the front and back end; along with the business items.

This is a hard space to be in. I am glad ycombinator is funding startups like this. To survive in this space you need to be profitable early on and it looks like you guys are already focusing on that business wise.

The challenge for your business is the various Emr/EHR systems that you have to pull data from. Some of these vendors might not be so friendly, has data lock in is a business strategy. Some systems might not have HL7 or some other type of known integration; the interfaces could be proprietary. Some systems might use their own custom database. Getting out EHR data even in known databases (MySQL , SQL server, etc) could be challenging if integration doesn't work and you have figure out the schema mapping, as the vendor has no incentive to give you the schema.

I am not sure your one price fits all can work well. It seems like it would work for known systems you know you get data accurately out of. What about all those one off deeply proprietary systems; it might take allot more time. I guess getting EHR printouts and manually entering in data is one strategy, but it's quite error prone. Accuracy means everything here. On top of that some of these doctors might not have any incentives to let your team figure out how to pull data from their system.

I know this because I use to do data migrations for a top EMR company. Medical records migrations are considered the most complex.

I would also add that how would your customers know you won't lock in their data. Will you publish your data format?

pptr1··on Panasonic and Tesla Sign Agreement for the Gigafactory
This just shows me that Tesla is able to execute. The Gigafactory, opening up patents, rapidly growing charger network, and the eventual $35k Gen III tells me they have tons of potential in the future.

Tesla is thinking big. They want everyone in the world to eventually have a electric car. I think they will own a significant share of premium market after they release the Gen III.

However, they will be cars that people will desire at a cheaper price point than the Gen III, from different manufacturers. Also some people love certain car brands regardless of anything else, and mostly will stick to those brands. It will be great that those other car brands will be able to more easily make electric vehicles.

Those electric cars from other manufacturers will most likely have a Tesla battery and charge on Tesla charging station. I think this is true disruption.

Expected 1 cent per share loss vs 2 cents per share earnings. Not a huge surprise.

I think this jump had everything to do with Noto.

pptr1··on Twitter Reports Second Quarter 2014 Results
From an investor standpoint I don't get why the stock is up 30%. I could understand if the stock was going to up 1-8%, but 30+%? Is it all the shorts covering? Is it the fact they brought in a wall street insider as CFO (Anthony Noto).

Wall Street was expecting a loss of 1 cent per share, but they surprised on earnings of 2 cents a share. Not a huge surprise.

Other things that irk me about the stock.

Management, I don't feel a warm and fuzzy having a non founder has a CEO. Nothing that Dick Costello has done to show me he has any long term vision. They fired almost everyone is senior management. Which shows signs of instability. *I haven't seen any product innovations come out of twitter from a end user standpoint organically.

I am not really sure why they want to buy Beat for that price. What is the strategic advantage in buying Beats?
pptr1··on Y Combinator Interview: Our Experience
Being accepted to Ycombinator is not a signal that your business will be successful in the long term. It might help in the short run being accepted as your instantly validated and have a higher chance of getting VC funding.

Entrepreneurs you shouldn't let getting rejected from Y combinator or any other accelerator bother you. You should consider the feedback they give and try to validate it and if what they are saying is true, try to correct what is wrong.

Consider one other point, while Y combinator partners are successful they are really not that successful. They haven't achieved as much as Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Page,Jack Ma etc. If Y combinator partners were really successful they would be running multi billion dollar companies, but they are using their skills to filter out applicants to Y combinator. So don't take their rejection as the law.

pptr1··on CEO Aaron Levie Will Only Own 4.1% Of Box When It IPOs, Investor DFJ Owns 25.5%
It also means Aaron Levie could be fired from Box anytime if Box's stock fails to perform. It adds a significant amount of pressure and sort of handicaps him from taking some risk. In my view this devalues the long term value of the company.

However, they could kill it at enterprise and introduce some game changing product or service,
