powerhugs··on Fly To Podman: a script that will help you to migrate from Docker
Huh, that's another uninformed take.

systemd is at it's core an app for running services, such as containers.

You should read up on podman and systemd before making up more arguments.

powerhugs··on Fly To Podman: a script that will help you to migrate from Docker
Rootless, daemonless, hardware passthrough, no Docker Inc pulling the rug, etc etc
powerhugs··on Fly To Podman: a script that will help you to migrate from Docker
I went with podman in 2020 when docker acted out last time and haven't looked back since.

I ask for our leader to condemn acts of aggression.

You read it as I want more bloodshed?

Some of us still live in democracies.

Alright!, sorry for the misunderstanding on my part.
powerhugs··on Sweden Investigates New Cable Break Under Baltic Sea
No, it was just an play on his lack of backbone, lol
powerhugs··on Sweden Investigates New Cable Break Under Baltic Sea
As another swede, I'd be happy to se Kristersson show some backbone. But he's apparently made out of snail so that won't happen.

Not condemning the aggressor over and over make us look soft, indeed.

That's already happening.

> Compiling shaders directly from a high level representation to the GPU ISA only really happens on consoles.

No, that's not correct. In fact, it's mostly the other way around. Consoles have known hardware and thus games can ship with precompiled shaders. I know this has been done since at least PS2 era since I enjoy taking apart game assets.

While on PC, you can't know what GPU is in the consumer device.

For example, Steam has this whole concept of precompiled shader downloads in order to mitigate the effect for the end user.

powerhugs··on Parsing JSON in 500 lines of Rust
Or more likely, OP has multiple versions of rust installed.

I wouldn't think the code signing phase is run while the benchmark is running and thus affecting those numbers.

powerhugs··on Parsing JSON in 500 lines of Rust
So, no?
powerhugs··on You're not a senior engineer until you've worked on a legacy project (2023)
Engineering isn't about working on the most interesting problems. It's about getting stuff done and management happy.

Here, parent explained in detail how to get stuff done, management very happy and secure their position for years to come.

powerhugs··on If you believe in "Artificial Intelligence", take five minutes to ask it
> Because they already believe humans are different and superior.

This is not a matter of belief, it's a matter of observable fact.

Humans reason. LLM predict.

powerhugs··on If you believe in "Artificial Intelligence", take five minutes to ask it
> Chatbot LLM's don't have metacognition. They don't know that they don't know.

Correct. LLM also don't have intelligence. What you and others mistake for intelligence is a very clever prediction model.

A LLM don't reason at all. It only tells you what is a most likely response based on its training data.

This is why the LLM cannot tell you it don't know.

So it can rust now? That's impressive!

Last time I tried it had no way of valid rust code beyond hello-world level, constantly producing code that failed the borrow checker.

powerhugs··on Go Is a Well-Designed Language
> I don't again think it's a good replacement of having enums built in!

I didn't say anything along those lines, in fact I was commenting generally about this issue that you guys and the other commenters mentioned.

I was just suggesting a solution to the the problem stated.

powerhugs··on Go Is a Well-Designed Language
It seems like none of the other comments here use or are even aware of `go generate`. Go has excellent code generation features [1].

I think parent should be using `stringer` [2] instead.

2: https://pkg.go.dev/golang.org/x/tools/cmd/stringer

powerhugs··on Go Is a Well-Designed Language
I very much agree. The fewer ways a programmer can become creative, the easier it is to fully understand their code.

In a business environment, this is a obvious win.

Shrug at HN.

powerhugs··on Why is zero plural? (2024)
> That's talking about "zero 3s", not "three zeroes".

In this context "zero" is not a noun, but an adjective.

powerhugs··on Why is zero plural? (2024)
I was too quick to press post, and I updated my above comment after you replied to it.

In addition, see the adj. definition of zero: https://www.oed.com/dictionary/zero_n?tl=true#1209971660

powerhugs··on Why is zero plural? (2024)
I am not trying to be funny. It seems to me that you are misunderstanding the usage of the word zero in this context, as in absence of any. Synonymous to "no", as in "no threes".

It is not about the number 0.

powerhugs··on Why is zero plural? (2024)
Huh? I thought I was being detailed.
powerhugs··on Why is zero plural? (2024)
Incorrectly top voted answers. "zeroes" is the plural form. The use of zero in "zero 3s" is not the number 0 but an adjective, synonym to "no" in that context.

The correct answer is the third one: https://ell.stackexchange.com/a/352496

I guess this is one of the reasons for the failing popularity of the Stack Exchange sites, simply voted best answers that are incorrect.

Similar to how you will find 30 incorrect upvoted seemingly correct-but-actually-incorrect answers to many reddit questions with the correct answer hidden deep down in the comments with no karma.

Similar how HN is turning out lately, too.

For being 15 year old, cool work!

But calling this de-anonymization is a stretch, if it can possibly pinpoint you within 250 miles (that's assuming geoip is correct too, which it rarely is).

In their GeoGuesser demonstration video, the higlighted area is densely populated and you still would need to match millions of people vs the online user.

It does provide some hints as to the location of the targeted user, and that is cool!

> Tech companies, perhaps until very recently, have been extremely left-leaning.

You Americans really have lost the touch of reality with regards to politics, that's for sure.

Tech companies are the wealthiest and most powerful companies in the world. They do what they do in order to increase profit. Nothing left-leaning about that.

In a few days your new president and his gamer buddy takes office, and they both have their own social media networks.
