power78··on Let's guess what Google requires in 14 days or they kill our extension
Who is referring to getting kicked off HN? I believe the post you're responding to, which said "If you're going to run a platform like this and capriciously threaten to kick people off of it," -- the "it" referred to Google.
power78··on Rclone – Sync files and directories to many cloud storage providers
Restic is great. The only part I don't like is that you are forced to use a password. For local backups it's unnecessary and if you forget the password all your data is lost.
power78··on Theia: Cloud and Desktop IDE
That's the most minimal description of VS Code...
power78··on Dealing with Loneliness
Why not go to the local pound and taking the dogs on a walk? That way you can feel the satisfaction of providing happiness to less-fortunate animals and not have to worry about owning one.
power78··on Dealing with Loneliness
You are overthinking a lot of this, in my opinion. Sure, people will find ways to stay connected regardless, but you can't deny the ease these services offer in staying connected, making it easier to be more social.
power78··on Dealing with Loneliness
I think you're not realizing the biological foundation of social interaction; it's not merely a product of society.
power78··on Why Google's $400 Pixel 3a convinced me to never again buy a $1000 smartphone
I thought the federal government was able to from the whole San Bernardino shooting suspect's phone?
power78··on Night Sight: Seeing in the Dark on Pixel Phones
I love my Bose ones, they seem to be as good as my wired Senneheiser ones. That's just my opinion though.
power78··on Night Sight: Seeing in the Dark on Pixel Phones
You make valid points, I was merely posting that question/pov since I've had Bluetooth headphones for a few years so it hasn't really affected me, and I agree that the industry unfortunately looks like it isn't going back.

I didn't check prices, I just assumed by now we would have access to cheap ones by now since every phone is going Bluetooth only. That's my mistake.

I agree the pairing process can sometimes take a couple minutes, especially if not familiar with the Bluetooth controls on both devices, but I wouldn't call that a nightmare.

I didn't think about the charging aspect, good point. I guess I'm spoiled due to the long battery life of headphones like Bose that I have that never have run out of battery, even on 13 hour flights. But ear buds definitely are a different story. However my Bose's batteries are still running strong years later (they also have a replacable battery) and no, I don't work for Bose, they're just the only Bluetooth ones I've had.

Also I've found AUX cables break over time causing static. Seems comparable to "bugginess" of Bluetooth, but I've never experienced any bugs with these headphones (again I've only owned 2 Bluetooth headphones so I'm uninformed). I'm genuinely curious what bugs Bluetooth headphone connections have, care to elaborate?

Thanks!

Can USB-C splitters charge and output at the same time like the MacBook ones do?
power78··on Night Sight: Seeing in the Dark on Pixel Phones
That's a valid point. Out of curiosity, do phones have good enough audio hardware that makes wired sound better than Bluetooth? IMO (I'm no audio engineer) the new Bluetooth standards have pretty good bandwidth that I'd imagine can transmit rather high bitrate audio. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm genuinely curious.
power78··on Night Sight: Seeing in the Dark on Pixel Phones
Being honestly curious, do android or iOS phones offer audio quality/signal comparable to standalone headphone amps expensive Senneheiser headphones are designed to perform best with? Disclosure: I also own $500 Senneheiser headphones, but use my Bose Bluetooth ones for my phone.
power78··on Night Sight: Seeing in the Dark on Pixel Phones
I'd say it's a very fair comparison. Google controls the Pixel ecosystem and Apple controls the iPhone.
power78··on Night Sight: Seeing in the Dark on Pixel Phones
Seriously. This argument is getting old. Bluetooth headphones aren't that difficult to find cheap now anyways. Are people really that attached to their old wired headphones?
power78··on Rocket Launch in New Zealand Brings Quick, Cheap Space Access
That would be a lot of extra launch weight just to return the first stage, not to mention the danger of having filled boosters on the rocket the whole launch.
power78··on In a Leaked Memo, Apple Warns Employees to Stop Leaking Information
Great video, thanks! Interesting how people are ok with copying others but hate to be copied (in part 4 of the video series). I never really thought about this issue the way that author presented it.

I found a lot, here's one: https://9to5mac.com/2015/01/26/nexus-6/
power78··on Juicero May Be Feeling the Squeeze
These guys must have sold investors hard for Google to put 120 million into this. Maybe there is an angle here I'm not seeing.
power78··on An animated GIF that shows its own MD5
How is that possible?
power78··on Intern Impact: Brotli compression for Play Store app downloads
It is strange. They were trying to decrease update sizes by using File-by-File patching, for example, but never decided to use the best applicable compression library until an intern came along?
power78··on SpaceX returns to flight with Falcon 9 rocket launch
Ism not the original person, but I live in Santa Barbara (about 60 miles away). You can definitely hear the rumble, delayed by several minutes. The launches at the middle of the night are the best since it's so quiet.
power78··on How removing caching improved mobile performance by 25%
This article just displays the author's lack of knowledge of the subject matter he is developing with. Something tells me it was written just to get the company's name out there.
power78··on Wi-Fi TimeSync
It was a software, not a hardware, update that enabled this feature
power78··on Dropbox Easter Egg?
I hope you don't mean the "grab a snickers" wording. That is not an Easter egg.
power78··on Facebook Disconnect
Edit: I'm sorry guys, I guess the file that the install button links to is not the addon itself like the Firefox addon site does, so saving it does not give you the addon. I'm retarded. He does not have tracking cookies, I apologize.
power78··on Facebook Disconnect
I'm sorry I was wrong. The file that the install button does not link to the addon like the Firefox addon site does, so saving the link is not the addon. I apologize.

power78··on Facebook Disconnect
He actually is doing this. Take a look at the source code. He has tracking javascript right at the bottom. Its sort of ironic...
power78··on Facebook Disconnect
I don't really like that he puts tracking javascript in his addons. Take a look at the source of this Facebook Disconnect addon, its at the bottom. Why don't people just write a simple bash script that toggles blocks for the facebook domains in the hosts file?
power78··on Show HN: I am building a next-gen browser
Not really. Do you even know the mission of the Flock browser?
