But if I understand you correctly on RHEL 4.X `print0` works but `-exec cmd {} +` doesn't.
Which is to say I disagree with op that it's better to rely on `exec cmd {} +` when it seems you're more likely to have `print0 and xargs -0` then that.
I'm somewhat familiar with a tool we use at work for monitoring JVM - wily introscope, but I'm sure there are other options available (newrelic java agent? ps can check nwlp on Linux? prstat available on linux? other jmx solutions?). Again I'm not familiar with tomcat as much as websphere/weblogic but I see tomcat has this option https://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-7.0-doc/config/valve.html#S... which you can use in conjunction with other monitoring to get alerts I think for situations like this (your app threads getting stuck). I'm not sure if tomcat will write a warning log msg or actually mark the the thread as "STUCK" in thread dump.
The author did mention Java Mission Control but I wanted to point out that's not the only option for JVM monitoring.
That the author is using that to find files is reasonable enough to me to disregard the rest of the blog.
edit: take that back...looked through rest of blog but don't see anything useful. I hate his idea for functions for builtins, using local is ok, please don't break up shell pipelines over N lines for simple stuff
Beyond that I think Verizon bought AOL 1) for a company with some experience with digital advertising, which is where I think Verizon sees a lot of its growth potential. There's only so many mobile phone subscribers in the US and landline business isn't really growing too much. See its accquistion of the TV company from Intel (they spent $1 billion for a NFL contract to stream games on mobile for 4 years). 2) it's still profitable and $4 billion really isn't very much for Verizon (Verizon itself was the $130B buyout of the Vodafone share by Verizon communications)
Also what are you doing that you need type information at runtime?
