posed··on Ask HN: How to be alone?
Exactly why you need kids so you won't be lonely.

Mind sharing what that worthwhile problem is?

posed··on “Erdos problem #728 was solved more or less autonomously by AI”
Do you use LLM models? Or something else?
posed··on Sergey Brin's Unretirement
Hiring someone to find hobbies defeats the purpose of hobbies. Why would you want to pursue something that someone else finds enticing rather than you discovering it yourself?
posed··on enclose.horse
I enjoyed it, thanks for making it!

posed··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2025 – Show and tell
What did you use to build the frontend? It looks cool!
posed··on US High school students' scores fall in reading and math
The truth is obvious, you just don't like the solution.
posed··on Ask HN: What would you work on if you couldn't fail?
Surfing
posed··on Ask HN: List of skills to survive the AI tsunami
Agree with this
posed··on Show HN: I made an open-source laptop from scratch
Dude this is great, you not only build a cool thing, but also you know how to preach about it! Very proud, hope you do great things. Don't let the spark die.
posed··on Ask HN: SWEs how do you future-proof your career in light of LLMs?
My advice: Keep honing your problem solving skills, by doing math challenges, chess puzzles, learn new languages(not programming ones, though that might help too), read books; anything that’d help you get newer perspectives, challenges your mind is good enough to withstand the race against AI.
posed··on Jia Tan "JiaT75": Added error text to warning when untaring with bsdtar (2021)
It is a social medium by definition, tbf.
posed··on Social engineering takeovers of open source projects
That does look suspicious.
posed··on Algebra problems selected from the Romanian Olympiad (Part 2)
I don’t think that is cut and dry as such, being able to solve IMO(International Mathematics Olympiad) level problems require a significant level of creativity and imagination, and folks who are good at it naturally have an aptitude(and perhaps an upper-hand as well) for problem solving in general, research or otherwise.
posed··on Lessons from a never-ending personal project
This reminds me of a rather wonderful video about getting stuff “done” vs pursuing perfection :- https://youtu.be/bJQj1uKtnus?si=bdyI83voqRb2B3rY
posed··on Counterexamples in Type Systems: programs that crash, segfault or explode (2021)
What’s your product if you don't mind sharing? Curious.
posed··on Why take a compiler course? (2010)
It’s not stagnation but the fundamental truths of a system, just like how 2 + 2 = 4 will remain true forever.
posed··on Master Emacs in one year
I’ve been using vim for 3-4 years now, and I’m very comfortable in the vim ecosystem. Trying out emacs has been in my mind for a while, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the time investment.
posed··on Ask HN: Math books that made you significantly better at math?
I second this strongly, you can’t get better at math just by reading books. You need to hone your problem solving skills, you need to fight with the problems, have the mindset of a warrior, a conqueror, only then you’ll get the juice out of it and have a clear understanding of the subject. I’ll suggest starting with Concrete Mathematics by Donald Knuth, it’s a beautiful book that catches the essence of mathematics.

Art of problem solving(https://www.amazon.in/Art-Problem-Solving-Basics/dp/09773045...) is also a great start, especially if you don’t have much experience.

posed··on Show HN: I may have created a new type of puzzle
Reminds of the game “We were here together”, where you and your partner have to be at certain position doing some coordinated actions to solve the puzzle and advance to the next stage.
posed··on I assure you, medieval people bathed (2019)
Exactly. I had to stop reading once it got out of hand.
posed··on How to set junior employees up for success in remote
I joined my company straight out of college and it was during covid peak, it was totally remote and guess what, last week my manager called me and told me that I've been promoted with a salary hike(within less than a year).

If you've discipline and commitment you can make anything work. :)
