pors··on Show HN: Check for web application security issues.
At least one of them :)
pors··on Show HN: Check for web application security issues.
> Please create a "webscan.html" file with the content "scanme"

I advice you to make the contents of this file unique for each website, otherwise:

- i can check 1000s of sites for the existence of webscan.html

- enter the sites that have such a file

- see the vulnerabilities of sites I don't own.

pors··on Make HTTP requests from your browser
Well, maybe you're right. I assumed that people programming against REST API's know basic tools like curl, but apparently I got that wrong.
pors··on Make HTTP requests from your browser
Sooo, web based curl? Amazing! #not
pors··on Turn any USB device into cloud storage
Yes I agree. It is a device that does two things if I understood well:

- it replaces the USB connector of USB devices with a wifi "bridge"

- it synchronizes data on a USB device with cloud services.

So yeah, wrong wordings for a very handy little device. I want one! :)

pors··on EasyDNS is under DoS attack
I couldn't access HN for a while because of it (all good now obviously)
pors··on Show HN: Courtside.me
Great concept and very cool design! Two suggestions for improvement:

- Let users play and organize before they have to log in

- The home page was a bit confusing to me, as it didn't have a very clear distinct "call to action" (read "the big red fez" by Seth Godin to understand more about that, over 10 years old and still very relevant).

pors··on Things I Hate About Object-Oriented Programming
Flame bait? If so, very successful :)
pors··on App Engine datastore: 1 year, 100,000 apps, 0% downtime
Yeah, good point, makes sense
pors··on No Comments, No-reply: Is There A Shift Happening?
Yeah, go ahead and shut down the comments, we will continue to comment here though :)
pors··on App Engine datastore: 1 year, 100,000 apps, 0% downtime
Pretty impressive, but what does "no system-wide downtime" mean? So there was local downtime?
pors··on Spain threatened with trade blacklist for not passing SOPA style law
Don't forget to read the comments under the article, pure entertainment :)
pors··on Why 37signals Doesn't Hire Programmers Based on Brainteasers
> The only reliable gauge I’ve found for future programmer success is looking at real code they’ve written, talking through bigger picture issues, and, if all that is swell, trying them out for size.

I agree with the latter. This is how I used to hire programmers, one month on a freelance contract first with a single project. The importance of the code itself is also overrated IMHO. It's just one tiny part of someone you add to your team, what about creativity, taking initiative, never giving up, being a team player, etc. Each of them are equally important to plain coding skills.

pors··on Markdown Editor
Shouldn't an <enter> become a <br/>? It currently doesn't. But cool little tool, starts up faster than dreamweaver :)
pors··on Here's what real transparency looks like
Web site/service transparency is barely something new, have a look here for over 300 sites that have a public status page in some form: http://www.transparentperformance.com/status-dashboard-direc...
pors··on All Node.js servers are vulnerable to DoS
Looks like it's getting fixed:

>> Yep. Hang tight. v0.6.7 is coming up soon.

pors··on Show HN: A simple, work-in-progress API proxy
It seems you are doing something very different from what apigee and mashable are doing by offering it hosted. I would promote that on you home page as it is your big USP (apart from being "free")
pors··on 37signals publishing uptime data
For real transparency you'll have to allow a third party to provide your public uptime data
pors··on Open-source Dropbox alternative powered by Git
Not really an alternative till it supports clients for all sorts of platforms and mobile devices IMHO
pors··on [dead]
the guy at Mashable
pors··on Plans for Nodecamp.eu 2012
I would vote for Berlin, but that's Germany again, so what about London: http://nodejs.meetup.com/ (most ppl in Europe with interest on meetup.com).
pors··on Amazon Has Drastically Changed the Way I Read
You can read PDFs on a Kindle, so the step from an ePub format ebook is not to much of a hassle I'd say.
pors··on Buy (and rent) vs buy: a hacker's view on housing
Here's a couple of reasons not to buy a home: http://www.jamesaltucher.com/2011/03/why-i-am-never-going-to...
