porjo··on Show HN: FreshTube – show latest videos from YouTube channels
Your screenshot is missing durations! That's a bug. Fixed now.
porjo··on Show HN: FreshTube – show latest videos from YouTube channels
Thanks for the suggestion. Done.
porjo··on Show HN: FreshTube – show latest videos from YouTube channels
My use case is to load up my favourite channels every morning before I go for a jog, and download any recent stuff that looks interesting onto my music player. I wanted something that combined it all on one page, but grouped by channel.
porjo··on Show HN: FreshTube – show latest videos from YouTube channels
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. I note however these do not contain durations which I definitely want. Freshtube shows a duration for each video.
porjo··on PfSense 2.5 and AES-NI
The device has 3 ethernet interfaces - one directly connected to the SoC, and the other two via an onboard switch.
porjo··on PfSense 2.5 and AES-NI
The Celeron J1900 (released 2013) does not support AES-NI. It's popular in low-powered mini PC devices, many of which come preinstalled with pfSense when purchased from Aliexpress.
porjo··on The company behind Adblock Plus is acquiring micropayment service Flattr
Glad to hear that Peter Sunde, Flattr's co-founder, has been able to move on with his life and have some success elsewhere after the Pirate Bay fiasco. [0]

porjo··on Naval Ravikant on Reading, Happiness, Decision Making, Habits [audio]
> he is a bad person those views are too abhorrent to consider his other opinions

Provided someone is well grounded in their our own core values, there should be no danger in simply listening to a person like Richard Spencer. I went out of my way to check him out after hearing about all the hate he was getting. While I disagree vehemently on the white nationalist stuff, I found he had a very refreshing take on a number of other topics. I wouldn't call him a 'bad' person either. Misguided, yes. The sort of misguided that, I suspect, comes from not exposing himself enough to the 'other'.

porjo··on A cartoon intro to WebAssembly
Not sure about assumptions made by wasm, but current limitations preventing Go from targeting it are:

> there is no efficient way to implement setjmp/longjmp functionality currently, therefore it's not a viable target of a gc port. We need to wait until it gets real stack unwinding and exception handling support.

porjo··on Improvements in Firefox for Desktop and Android
This. As a Firefox user I have the same 'feeling' going back the other way. With regards to developer tools, I find the tools that I use constantly - console, inspector, network activity - to be superior on Firefox... Each to his own I suppose.

porjo··on A Protocol for Dying
I've seen Pieter speak both in person and on video and it's hard not be impressed by his conviction and passion. Clearly a very clever guy with a lot of interesting ideas. Quite a polarizing character by all reports, but one that has made a significant contribution to the open source community nonetheless.

Godspeed Pieter.

porjo··on $1B in liquid methamphetamine seized by Australian Police
720 litres of methyl-amphetamine! The largest drug bust in Australian history and ranks amongst the top 10 drug seizures of all time. How is it a population the size of Australia has such a big problem with Ice?
porjo··on IPv6: It's time to get on board

porjo··on iTunes connect down since thursday
Some people are claiming to be able to access the site by bypassing their local CDN e.g. using TOR, or VPN

Pretty poor show from Apple generally, and Apple support specifically. Their status page has showing green indicator for most of this outage!

porjo··on IPv4 Depletion
AFAIK Google web-based services aren't that popular in China, so IPv6 metrics there are kinda irrelevant.
porjo··on IPv4 Depletion
There is a lot of FUD surrounding this market. Apparently Iran has been buying blocks of IPv4 from Romania, only to discover that the Romanians were continuing to advertise those same blocks after the sale!! See https://youtu.be/Jn5ztZSigHA
porjo··on IPv4 Depletion
They continue doing IPv4. Anyone they want to reach needs to be reachable on IPv4 - at least via an IPv4 gateway/proxy
porjo··on IPv4 Depletion
A recent presentation [1] at RIPE conference highlighted that only 6 of the top 30 carriers in the world (based on customer value) are doing anything visible with IPv6. I suspect the rest have some IPv6 strategy cooking on the back burner, but are in no hurry to deploy until their hand is forced.

porjo··on MapQuest still exists
I don't disagree. mayneack indicated that he/she thought OSM provided an API for driving distances (they don't).
porjo··on MapQuest still exists
Openstreetmap doesn't provide driving distances or routing itself. Project OSRM uses Openstreetmap data to provide this service: http://project-osrm.org/
