pookeh··on Tell HN: Azure is having a major outage
Do these outages have anything to do with the log4js vulnerability?
pookeh··on We will be retiring Alexa.com
My gut feeling is that most are nation-backed trolls.
pookeh··on Updates to the Twitter developer platform
Also given that there are now a whole new generation of developers who weren't around when the whole trashing began years ago.
pookeh··on Ask HN: How do you make money on the side in tech?
Yes, there is a gig ... you work charitibly for a non-profit.
pookeh··on Bitten by the 90 day exercise window
Why do employees not negotiate for actual vesting stock as opposed to vesting stock options?
pookeh··on Faster CRDTs: An Adventure in Optimization
Wait it doesn't look like you used the performance branch of automerge (which is now merged into master). It is significantly faster.

https://github.com/automerge/automerge/pull/253

pookeh··on Amazon.com product pages are down
Design problems become human problems at performance review time
pookeh··on Microsoft announces Windows 11
They got sued but IE also became the dominant browser. I think they must be factoring this decision into their Teams' CAC.
pookeh··on Stack Overflow sold to Prosus for $1.8B
I for one would have fully loved to have Stack Overflow be bought by Github/Microsoft, and just replace Github discussions. Of course there are topics that fall outside of the scope of repos but ... fully contextualized communities belonging to repos all in one place would have been very powerful.
pookeh··on Recommendations and Results Organization in Netflix Search
I use Trim [1] for Chrome to add ratings in the netflix interface. It also dims recommendations that are below my specified stars. Works really well!

pookeh··on My experience as a Gazan girl getting into Silicon Valley companies
Congratulations! Looking forward to hearing more positive news from you in the future.
pookeh··on Tauri: An Electron alternative written in Rust
Why doesn't Electron debundle itself into the Runtime vs Application? Much like .Net Runtime. Electron can then be installed in a single spot in the system and all Electron apps pick it up from that spot. You can install bundle the Electron Runtime in the installer (200mb installer is no biggie for a desktop app) but you get all the benefits of consolidating RAM usage across.
pookeh··on TypeScript 4.1
Lots of other great examples here: https://github.com/ronami/meta-typing
pookeh··on Why not use GraphQL?
You no longer have to code data selectors explicitly for each endpoint.
pookeh··on Why not use GraphQL?
Put differently, Graphql gives good defaults out of the box, and REST bad defaults.
pookeh··on NestedText, a nice alternative to JSON, YAML, TOML
We had that a decade ago. It was called XML and XML Schema. All IDEs support it.

JSON was a huge step backwards in the name of simplicity. And now when we are going to add similar functionality to JSON, something else is going to come out in the name of simplicity (like NestedText).

pookeh··on Microsoft Joins the Blender Development Fund
Also it's a donation not a contract.
pookeh··on Amazon sues former AWS marketing VP Brian Hall after he takes Google Cloud job
While it's most definitely true that most people who want to fight back will get legal counsel, I am talking more about giving faith to fight to those who yield at the sight of the first letter.

If your experiences were more made more public, as to the exact process, people would be less scared about beginning their own process of fighting back.

pookeh··on Amazon sues former AWS marketing VP Brian Hall after he takes Google Cloud job
I wish you and everyone else who has to write these legal replies can open source these letters so that the process of going up against these large enterprises doesn't sound so intimidating.
pookeh··on Show HN: Grid.js – Advanced table library that works everywhere
Not pricey if you are ok with the open source MIT version.

Also their modular system is very easy to extend so you can always write your substitute adapters for their enterprise code without even forking it.

pookeh··on How we raised $3M for an open source project
What I always wanted to know is what prevents Amazon to create a service 'inspired by' an open source project. Like...check the source, take ideas, write in 'your own words'?
pookeh··on Show HN: Grid.js – Advanced table library that works everywhere
Ag-grid
pookeh··on IBM to cut thousands of jobs as coronavirus plays out
If IBM owns stock of itself then it can use that stock in lieu of cash to make acquisitions, hires, and bonuses.

Having a lower stock price means it has a smaller leverage on those things.

pookeh··on Textile Hub: databases, storage, and remote IPFS for app builders
Still want to know the answer to the original question "Is the Textile toolkit able to operate directly 'on chain' via a standard web browser?"
pookeh··on Show HN: Tara – A smart and free alternative to Jira
And this is how Jira started with it's complexity. Welcome to the club.
pookeh··on Show HN: Tara – A smart and free alternative to Jira
Also pivotal....but pivotal is nice
pookeh··on Build a real-time Twitter clone with LiveView and Phoenix 1.5
How is the IDE support and in particular the refactoring assistance? If I rename something do I have to find and replace or will language service tools handle that for me? Speaking as someone who just did a very large refactoring of a large (100k+) codebase. Statically typed languages and tools around them help a ton there but not sure how it would work with Elixir.
pookeh··on GitHub is now free for teams
Came here to ask the same thing. I literally set up Teams @ $25/month for 2 seats only and paid in full for annual...

How does this price change affect me?

Also, has the number of minutes for Actions gone down from 10k to 2k monthly?

pookeh··on CouchDB 3.0
I came here to read about couchdb but ended up reading about grammar for 2 mins. Does HN have an offtopic flag and if so can I by default collapse all offtopic comments?
pookeh··on Intuit to buy Credit Karma for $7B
In Canada I use https://simpletax.ca. Their software is super easy to use (even easier than TT) ...and it's pay what you want. Needless to say my "donation" to them has been increasing over the years.
