poly2it··on A field guide to the modern front end for developers who hand-wrote HTML
For some reason I find Claude's writing often has an oddly condescending tone when it tries to be empathetic.
poly2it··on Researchers have developed pixels that can emit and analyse light together
I don't understand why a photosensing pixel is meaningfully worse for privacy than the devices we already have. I mean, sure, you might not as easily be able to cover up your camera with tape, but even then a better solution which should be implemented anyway is a physical decoupling.

And as I stated above, I doubt this is meaningful for spying capabilities. Micro cameras are likely more suitable, for better or worse.

poly2it··on Researchers have developed pixels that can emit and analyse light together
Phone screens without notches, laptops which can have larger cameras for better video calls, VR gear with better eye tracking, digital mirrors and more. I'm sure there are less obvious applications.
poly2it··on Researchers have developed pixels that can emit and analyse light together
Can you be more precise about what scenario you are envisioning?
poly2it··on Researchers have developed pixels that can emit and analyse light together
Is this really as detrimental to privacy as other comments claim? There are already very small cameras which can be used for adversarial purposes. This technology could be useful for many utilitarian purposes.
poly2it··on Ask HN: What surprised you about Estonia e-Residency and running an Estonian OÜ?
Question: are OÜs particularly beneficial even for non-Estonians (EU), and in what way?
poly2it··on Dolphin Emulator Progress Release 2606
I think that was Citra emulator. Protect Dolphin at all costs!

Nintendo (among other creative corporations) do not seem to realise that invite to play creates an attachment to the product that is deeper than a license agreement, which is our shared cultural filament.

poly2it··on Lift4D: Harmonizing Single-View 3D Estimation for 4D Reconstruction In-the-Wild
This is insanely promising. What a time to be alive!
poly2it··on In praise of memcached
I don't see how this is AI-written?
poly2it··on Memory crisis is getting so bad that even retro RAM prices are going to the Moon
Does anybody have an understanding of when realistically there will be supply again? I've heard some positive sentiment about new developments in China, but that's not a market I am familiar with, and I haven't witnessed any effects of it thus far.
poly2it··on Jobs and Software Is Fucked
Did you go into tech because you love software or for the money?
poly2it··on Blogger defeats photographer's copyright claim
Do you search the name of the photographer every time you download a creative commons image? The vast majority of people simply do not care about copyright.
poly2it··on Steam Machine launches today
I would assume it also has to do with if not fundamentally manifesting from Steam being an organisation of technologists. They don't want to put out a project which has a worse operating system than their workstations.
poly2it··on Steam Machine launches today
No average pilot.
poly2it··on Britain's prime minister to step down, Burnham puts himself forward as successor
Just one more minister, I promise you, just one more and all politics will resolve. Come on, just one more and it will fix everything. Please just one more. One more minister and we can fix the whole problem.

poly2it··on Show HN: Teach your kids perfect pitch
Does that imply that people with age actually interpret pitches differently? The pitch reading would be correct "locally", within your brain.
poly2it··on Show HN: Teach your kids perfect pitch
Pitch perception shifts with age?
poly2it··on Minecraft: Java Edition 26.2, the first version with Vulkan 1.2
FYI, PojavLauncher has been succeeded by https://github.com/AngelAuraMC.
poly2it··on Excessive nil pointer checks in Go
It's really difficult to view Go as a serious language when fundamental design decisions such as this one have seemingly been glossed over. It's in a precarious spot, on the one hand cushioning the C it wants to resemble, but on the other hand not yielding any capable tools or abstractions which could otherwise be unlocked via the safe architecture. Go developers seem uninterested in language design.
poly2it··on Linux eliminates the strncpy API after six years of work, 360 patches
No, there would not have been and this is most likely not the reason. size_t exists for precisely this use case. It has existed since C89.
poly2it··on Bun has an open PR adding shared-memory threads to JavaScriptCore
I can't stand Claude's "honesty". Anthropic should hire some writers and linguists to make the output a bit more bearable. It's mentally taxing to read this type of dull text for hours every day.
poly2it··on Show HN: Microcrad – Micrograd Reimplemented in C
This leaves out part of the clause.

All identifiers that begin with an underscore are reserved for use as identifiers with file scope in both the ordinary and tag name spaces.
Single underscore followed by non-uppercase is allowed, but not in file scope. This means that you can use them in structs and as local variables, but never as globals.

poly2it··on OpenAI mulls slashing prices as it competes with Anthropic for users
Is there any open model that can emulate the agentic experience you get with Opus 4.7?
poly2it··on Ultrafast machine learning on FPGAs via Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks
I'm not in HFT, but I assume this is also an interesting applicable domain?
poly2it··on Thunderbird Littering My Home
On topic of hidden files: wherefrom is the pattern of treating configuration files as hidden? I'm referring to the pattern of `.configfile` -- I mean, for code projects, a local config file is a first-level construct. This leads to hidden files being not being a viable construct, as there is no longer any consensus on what should be hidden.
poly2it··on Life is too short for a slow terminal
Is this poor man's Nix/direnv, or does it do anything else?
poly2it··on Apple reveals new AI architecture built around Google Gemini models
I'm wondering who's paying for this. Is it becoming a part of the iCloud subscription? A separate billed product?
poly2it··on DeepSeek V4 Pro beats GPT-5.5 Pro on precision
Why was this posted to HN? What an utter waste of time. Someone's slopwriter writes a slop article about which slopper slops the most slopulicious slop. Comments agree it's a bogus "study". We need some gate on AI-written articles. It's so weird that AI-written comments are not permitted, while the front page can be occupied by stuff like this.
poly2it··on Scientists ejected from diabetes conference for distributing journal reprints
That's precisely the issue, the power dynamic needs to flip. The state of USA and more worryingly the direction it is in is horrifying.
