polishdude20··on The Forgetful CPU (Linux on M4)
I wonder if AI could make this work? Have there been any attempts to have AI do the work needed?
polishdude20··on Functional Ultrasound Imaging (fUSI) from scratch
I've recently built my own ultrasound machine at home with only the probe being an ebay buy from a previously working machine.

I've gotta get on writing an article about it one day!

polishdude20··on Pledge signed by President Trump and top AI leaders misspells the United States
Nono you don't understand, they want to say Trump Unites States. That's exactly what they meant to write!
polishdude20··on BYD looking to build 5-minute EV charging network in Canada
I'd love to get a BYD electric in Canada but it seems like they won't be selling for anywhere near as cheap as people are expecting?
polishdude20··on NTSB issues investigative update on B-767 runway excursion accident in Miami
Yeah but that's what I mean, like having to acknowledge minimums and saying "yes let's do it" is like the last like external trigger that they should have listened to and decided to go around.
polishdude20··on US Military tests quantum sensors for flight navigation without GPS over Pacific
Not sure why they call it "quantum" sensors when it seems to just be a really sensitive magnetic sensor?
polishdude20··on Working with Git Worktrees in Magit
Aren't worktrees multiple copies? I usually have multiple worktrees and each one has different ports the various apps and servers talk to so I can easily visit each worktree's instance to test while having them all run.
polishdude20··on NTSB issues investigative update on B-767 runway excursion accident in Miami
Isn't there a call out usually where the plane says "minimums" and the pilot flying has to verbally confirm that they are committed? You'd think for this flight, that would have been the final time to realize they need to go around? Or is that strictly just a visibility call-out?
polishdude20··on One woman's Tesla was remotely controlled by an abusive ex-partner
Time to directly wire it to the car battery then
polishdude20··on AlphaGenome Atlas: a high-resolution map of human DNA
Wait, is NS solved? I thought I was just a singularity thing?
polishdude20··on Reverse Engineering Unknown File Formats with ImHex
I've always wondered how something like an Autodesk Inventor sldprt file was formatted so that I could write a program to manipulate those files.

I assumed it was proprietary and left it at that.

A few years later, I saw that Onshape allows importing sldprt files into their system and I wonder how they were able to provide that ability without some proprietary knowledge transferred

polishdude20··on Qantas Airbus A380 engine failure in 2010 (2023)
I wonder why the engineers didn't specify a tolerance for thickness of the oil stub pipe?
polishdude20··on Qantas Airbus A380 engine failure in 2010 (2023)
What's a turbine disc?
polishdude20··on Good Culture Is the Biggest Productivity Hack, Not AI
How good the culture is at a company is inversely proportional to how often the company talks about it.
polishdude20··on RAG Is Simpler Than You Think
Their API doesn't allow bulk conversions.
polishdude20··on Suica, Japan's First IC Transit Card
The card might be fast but getting one as a tourist is kind of a hassle
polishdude20··on Supersonic Trebuchet [video]
I thi k the G forces involved to accelerate the arm to supersonic speeds in one rotation would tear it apart.
polishdude20··on Cursor Origin
That hasn't been my experience but maybe it's because in cursor I'm really only using the auto feature all the time. It's been almost a month of daily usage and I'm still only at like 70% quota.
polishdude20··on Every Fucking Website (2020)
Even my back button was hijacked for a second. Nice attention to detail!
polishdude20··on Water system controllers don't belong on the internet, says ex-NSA chief
The best thing they could do to new PLC's would be to have the src code live alongside the firmware inside. So any new person would be able to open it and reason about it.
polishdude20··on Qwen3.8 Max now ranked as the best overall model by agentic index
You should just spend those towards a cursor subscription.
polishdude20··on Launch HN: ProvenMetal (YC S26) delivers circuit boards in days instead of weeks
JLCPCB can make boards in less than 7 days easily and for non drone and defense companies.
polishdude20··on It's Easier Than Ever to Fly Private Without Your Own Jet
But is it 10k if you fill the plane? Or could I get one all to myself for 10k?
polishdude20··on SoftBank donated $50M to Trump's library before federal data center deal
Hey Softbank, can I get an investment of $1 million in my life? I promise your returns will be similar to your other more expensive ventures!
polishdude20··on Discovery Loop
That's a great point. If you know how to promote and work with AI to create novel solutions to hard problems. Why can't you prompt it to at least make a better website?
polishdude20··on Scientists find clearing cholesterol from blood also removes forever chemicals
Do we even have an accurate method for actually detecting micro plastics in tissue/blood? Didn't I read somewhere that it's very difficult to do because plastic is basically inert and is really hard to detect?
polishdude20··on Apple says more ex-employees may have taken confidential data to OpenAI
It just goes to show how Saltman thinks. "If the door is open, it's not my fault I've walked in and stolen all of your stuff!"
polishdude20··on Just because a game is on disc doesn't mean it will work in the future
For an FPGA project I'm working on that requires a host software program on the host computer, I've been looking into finding a way to burn the host software or source code to the fpga itself. So you'd just plug in the USB port and it would automatically open a filesystem and let you copy over the source code or even binary blob for the software so it would work in the future.
polishdude20··on The Silicon Valley Founder Meat Grinder
I don't think these people NW ever goes down to zero.
