poetril··on Ask HN: What does your WFH day/routine look like?
Also no kids. I live CST but work on a EST schedule to stay in line with the majority of my time.

6:30 Wake up, dogs out, straight to making some coffee.

6:45 - 7:15ish Walk dogs

7:15ish - 8:00 Free time (play a video game, read, watch YouTube etc)

8:00 - 8:30 Morning admin (emails, check calendar) stuff before stand up

8:30 stand up

8:30 - 11:00 Focused work. Do no disturb on Slack and notifications off on email. Probably get 70% of my work each day done in this block

11:00-12:00 Lunch hour

12:00 - 4:00 Remaining work for the day. Try to do less intense work in this block. Emails, documentation, notes for the day, and plan for tomorrow

4:00 - 6:00 Free time. Walk dogs again, video games, reading, etc.

6:00 - 8:00 Exercise or even more free time if I'm resting. I'll usually rock climb

8:30 - 10:00 Make dinner and relax with my SO or have more time to my self.

poetril··on Tell HN: Exercism needs donations to survive 2023
That is concerning. I have recommended Exercism to a few different friends/family that took up an interesting in learning how to code. I'll toss some money their way, they provide an excellent service.
poetril··on Ask HN: Does anyone review code on their iPad/tablet?
I have the GitHub app on my iPad, and at time will review (smaller PR's) from my tablet while not at my desk. Its fine, but for larger PR's or PR's I need to leave more longer more in-depth comments on I will go back to my desk. Maybe I could carry small bluetooth keyboard, but at that point I might as well just undock my laptop.
poetril··on Ask HN: 90s kids happily less connected?
I’ll toss in my two cents as someone born in the mid nineties, and is not very connected by modern standards. I have a Discord, Reddit, HN, YouTube (?) and Steam. I’ve deleted or completely stopped using any other social media accounts.

That being said I can count on one hand the number of people who have a similar level of disconnect. Most people +/- 5 years of me that I know maintain on if not multiple other social media accounts. Mostly Instagram, from my experience.

I think the biggest thing I’ve noticed is that people I talk to are _aware_ of the risks and dangers of engaging with social media. But for some reason or another still choose to do so. But the level of awareness is up quite a bit from where it was half a decade ago.

poetril··on Min: A fast, minimal browser that protects your privacy
I've been using Arc on my work machine, really hoping they release a Linux compatible version soon so I can use it on my personal machines as well.
poetril··on Working with Tailwind CSS every day for 2 years
Ooo, that is very interesting. I will have to give that a shot, thanks for sharing!
poetril··on Working with Tailwind CSS every day for 2 years
Having used both Tailwind and a more traditional scss system in the past. I think my personal favorite is styled components[0]. It strikes a good balance between not having to move between many files, like you might find your self doing with traditional css/scss system. While being declarative and semantically easy to read.

It is not perfect by any means, and in larger components/pages it can lead to some pretty long, difficult to reason about files. But its the best workflow I've had the opportunity to work with so far.

poetril··on Tell HN: YouTube's web UI just got even worse
This is exactly how I browse as well. I have uBlock hiding all links that could possibly lead me to the home page, as well the sidebar, and post video recommendations. The only content I consume is from the 'Subscriptions' page.
poetril··on Ask HN: Any Alternatives to GatsbyJS?
Just moved my Gatsby blog to Astro and couldn’t be happier. Astros built in apis for interacting with Markdown files are a treat.
poetril··on W4 Games raises $8.5M to support Godot Engine growth
Very exciting. Godot breathed life into my game dev hobby a few years ago, thrilled to see it getting more resources to grow.
poetril··on Protonmail Recommended Browsers
I've moved all my email to Proton over the course of the last year or so. Each interaction I've had with customer support as been great, resolving my issues usually same day as I've opened the ticket. Only two downsides in my mind is the lack of an iOS calendar app (its in closed beta atm) and twice since I've signed up they have suffered multi-hour outages that left me without access to email.
poetril··on Ask HN: Is no one hiring junior devs?
I don't think the switch would be hard. You're best bet will most likely be moving horizontally. In 6-12 months bring up moving internally to another team to your manager.

Otherwise you can probably look for a new job after you get some experience under your belt to put your ahead of the pack.

poetril··on Ask HN: How do you start your remote work day?
I don’t start work till 9AM, but my wife starts at 7:30 (school teacher). So I’ll get up around 6:30 with her, and while she gets ready I’ll make coffee for the both of us. After she heads out I’ll walk to dog, and spend the remaining hour or so playing a video game, reading, or hacking away at some side project until work starts.

poetril··on User friendly web games
I have really enjoyed the dev streams + YouTube videos. As someone learning Godot on the side it’s been very informative.
poetril··on Ask HN: Share your personal site
https://tpolito.com/ - I’m currently in the process of redoing this site again. But this is it for now. Nothing too fancy. Built with SvelteKit hosted in CloudFlare Pages.
poetril··on Supabase Edge Functions
I'd love to learn more about how its making use of Deno. I have been loving Supabase lately, both for hacking away at side projects. I have been thinking about moving some of my own backends over to Supabase.
poetril··on Ludum Dare 50 (20th anniversary of LDJam)
This will be my third Ludam Dare. So far each one has been an excuse for a few of my friends and I to “get together” via discord and build a game.

Each times it’s been an incredible amount of fun and I can’t wait to see what we come up with this time.
