pmdr··on LinkedIn Larpmaxxing
> There used to be a time sites got punished if they treated searchbots differently..

Google is itself deep in the darkpatternmaxxing game now as well.

pmdr··on America.gov
> There are entirely factual ways to describe January 6th, 2021.

That's the thing. People can't even agree on facts, even if they're obvious to an outside observer.

pmdr··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
I had it write some code the other day, boy was it awful-looking compared to 5.6. Worked perfectly, but ugly nonetheless.
pmdr··on Google ending ChromeOS support two years early
Ubuntu tried that at some point, but it never took off as a mobile OS.
pmdr··on My weird new hobby: Wandering around Tokyo on Google Maps
I do this as well, and I hope Google never takes away the ability to look back in time.
pmdr··on Pirate Face Rescues LLM Models from Deletion
HF is meant to be a single point of control. AI models and Linux distros aren't usually for normies, so distribution via torrents would make sense, especially to save the provider some bandwidth. Ubuntu has been offering torrent downloads for ages. No mention of torrents on HF. I believe most downloads will soon be account/EULA-walled.
pmdr··on Texas judge rules TikTok misled users on child safety feature
I'd say it is, if you stay away from shorts.
pmdr··on Texas judge rules TikTok misled users on child safety feature
I like to think there's a difference between being fed misinformation & braindrot day in, day out and having to look for them yourself.
pmdr··on Texas judge rules TikTok misled users on child safety feature
TikTok isn't even safe for adults, let alone children.
pmdr··on Stop Omarchy
Mainstream distro users/contributors were too busy arguing that Debian is better than Slackware, Arch is better than Debian, Ubuntu is for noobs and now NixOS (whatever that is) reigns supreme. All that reduced the UX of these distros to the lowest common denominator, with varying degrees of skill requirements to get the thing working.

What if everything people wanted was a riced Arch/Ubuntu distro that was trivial to install on pretty much anything and not a lecture on how non-free drivers/software can't be included, leaving your machine unable to connect to the internet?

pmdr··on Stop Omarchy
All this effort spent on making lists which dubiously include some of the world's biggest corporations, the creators of JavaScript, GNU and the opensource movement... instead of making something better? Not "ethical", just make something better.

You might argue that there are better distros out there, but has any other distro gained so much traction so fast since Ubuntu? And this even before a single cent was spent from all the 'fascist' donations.

I've come to hate Windows, to increasingly dislike macOS and to love Linux because I no longer have to spend my days ricing, recompiling wifi drivers for older machines and stuff like that. I don't have the time. Omarchy is worth it for me because someone else worked on this, passed it on for free and it just worked. Perhaps those big donators see value in that as well, and not just in some supposed power-grab?

pmdr··on I think I hate the internet
> but it sounds like bots on X are more rampant than ever, so no thanks to that.

I used to get a lot of spambot followers, but that has ceased entirely in the past year. I would say the bot problem is no longer that relevant at the moment, but rather people posting AI replies are.

pmdr··on I think I hate the internet
> Bluesky was a decent little community for a minute.

I found it interesting before the mass-exodus from Twitter/X. Now it's mostly politics and negativity. Not much different in that regard from X, just at the other end of the political spectrum. X still has, for me at least, most of the relevant accounts.

pmdr··on Shopify acquires Tailwind
I like vanilla CSS, but agents in my experience seem to deliver more uniform results when using tailwind.
pmdr··on Flock Wants a Closely Surveilled World with No Exit
I was merely hinting at protests being called peaceful by the media when they clearly weren't. Not saying they weren't justifiably so.
pmdr··on Flock Wants a Closely Surveilled World with No Exit
As long as it's a mostly peaceful prostest, you're also allowed to set a few cars on fire and loot local businesses.
pmdr··on Copyright does more harm than good and should be abolished
Drug patents are much more short-lived and there's arguably more money invested in drug discovery than in, say, writing a fiction novel. IMO copyright should be limited to 20-30 years. Not that LLM labs care anyway.
pmdr··on Nitter and XCancel resume service after legal advice
Because the alternative we were promised (bsky) is much, much worse than X, albeit at the other end of the political spectrum.
pmdr··on Portal by Spotify cut my Claude Code token usage by 90%
I wish websites would stop messing with the scrolling behavior.
pmdr··on .name Termination
> I had history with Verisign and did not trust them.

I don't know what that history is, but did it really make a tld used by only 22k people more appealing?

pmdr··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
Should've just named them both Guardrails 5.1 and be done with it.
pmdr··on Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope
Musk used to be reddit's darling. People's newfound hate for him seem to cloud their judgment and make them forget what made Musk their darling in the first place.
pmdr··on Claude writing a macOS driver for my obscure HP printer built only for Windows
How much longer until such use is deemed unwanted by our AI overlords?
pmdr··on Memory prices climb 500% in 12 months
I've come to the same conclusion. Some believe that grownups shouldn't care about RAM prices going up.
pmdr··on Ask HN: How do you keep up with HN these days?
> open HN

> ignore all posts about MCP

> ignore all posts containing "agent"

> also ignore everything frontier labs bragged about hacking this week

> ignore AI psychosis posts praised as being the future

> check out everything else

> close HN

pmdr··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
I found Opus to be a lot lazier than GPT. It's still the case with Opus 5, even when I tell it to be thorough and fix every bug it encounters, it still gives me a list of things "deliberately" left unfixed and no reasonable explanation as to why.
pmdr··on Gentoo bugzilla closed due AI bot scraper overload
There's a reddit thread from 9 years ago with people complaining the site blocking crawlers and thus not being indexed by search engines. So I'm not sure what they consider "overload." At this point they should dump the db on thepiratebay.
pmdr··on A year of fighting scrapers on my 1.5 million-page website
The only winner here is Cloudflare. Nowadays they have 30s wait screens for residential IPs they don't like. It's things like this that make me quit the internet altogether.
pmdr··on What Happened to Talenti?
They should pivot to AI.
pmdr··on Less Coffee, Better Sleep
Since quitting caffeine 10 months ago I've found it difficult to fall asleep as I seem to have a lot more energy in the evenings. Also, decaf is probably impossible to get in a Swedish workplace, people give you a concerned stare whenever you ask for it.
