plextoria··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (July 2026)
I see, best of luck with the project! I hope I can contribute one day
plextoria··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (July 2026)
Thank you! A project like this was on my wishlist for a long time. Colleagues looked at me like I'm weird when I was saying containers without a VM should be possible on macOS. I switched to a Linux laptop because I couldn't stand the experience of working with Docker on macos.

I wonder if some of the macOS sandboxing features can be used instead of relying solely on the JIT

Thanks for your answer! Makes me curious how do you defend against people simply bruteforcing or guessing the account numbers.
plextoria··on Show HN: Uruky (EU-based Kagi alternative) now has Image Search and URL Rewrites
This intrigued me and I topped up an account. Is there no password? Anyone could "steal" my account number and kick me out?

Except in the case of rt.com it's completely justified

> There are plenty of dual citizens that would proudly admit that their first loyalty is to Israel.

Plenty of dual citizens that are not Israeli citizens and would admit the same thing, but we don't go around throwing such accusations at them.

> this example seems to apply to accusing any individual.

Does it? It would be accusing the individual just because they are part of a certain group.

plextoria··on Show HN: Colanode, open-source and local-first Slack and Notion alternative
I'm excited to try this out! (seems to have some bandwidth issues, currently downloading at 24KB/s)

Is SSO implemented or planned in the near future? I feel that colanode would be a great fit for our start-up

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t a jammer be very easy to disable kinetically?

A missile would simply have to follow the jammer’s signal.

plextoria··on Ask HN: Do you still use search engines?
I use Kagi search + Instant Answer. Instant Answer is most often giving me the result I am looking for.
plextoria··on German parliament votes as a Git contribution graph
> So a country only needs to rewrite all the laws to adopt versioning, cool.

No, they only need to start using versioning in order to adopt versioning. Think of an "initial git commit"

These kind of questions get ironed out during accession negotiations I think.

plextoria··on Dear Paul Graham, there is no cookie banner law
> But while it sounds good on the surface, it doesn't take much digging to show it's silly. If you store any kind of data about a visitor to make their life more convenient, is that tracking? Shopping carts? Notification preferences? etc.

A tracking warning a login/sign up would be enough. No need to ask for cookie consent at every visit. It would just be part of the typical T&C.

> It's actually a bit ironic to ask visitors if it's ok to track them. If they say no, you have to track them to at least remember that choice. Easily solved with a cookie that says "don't track". If cookie is set, don't track anything.

plextoria··on ASML may be looking to leave the Netherlands
"Prevent" is a strong word. I would say that the best thing EU can do is facilitate conditions that would encourage ASML to stay home. Something obviously isn't going well if ASML can't expand within NL/EU and putting any further restrictions would scare businesses off.
plextoria··on macOS Containers v0.0.1
> Does XNU have such namespacing functionality across all its interfaces?

I don't think so, but some Docker features could be implemented using XNU sandboxing AFAIK

> Furthermore, the existing container ecosystem assumes a Linux syscall interface. [1]. Does macOS provide that? I expect not.

This project is about running macOS containers on macOS. It's not about running Linux containers.

What happened to simply using the verb “search”? Or phrases like “look it up”? It shouldn’t really matter (typical conversation) which search engine a person is using.

plextoria··on Croatia to switch to euro, enter passport-free Schengen zone
Schengen and Euro definitely put Croatia on my list of destinations. It’s much more comfortable to travel without having to bother with exchange rates.

No passport control at the airport is also a nice bonus. I can’t describe that feeling when I travel to another country without going through border checks, it’s so liberating.

Your comment completely disregards the existence of low-emission and EV vehicles. The article mentions that petrol cars registered after 2006 won't need to pay the emissions charge. That's cars that are 16! years old.
